Patent number: 6542513Abstract: A method, system, and associated program code and data structures are provided for a message processing system in which messages are transmitted from source nodes to destination nodes. An “eager” rendezvous transmission mode is disclosed in which early arrival buffering is provided at message destination nodes for a predetermined amount of data for each of a predetermined number of incoming messages. Relying on the presence of the early arrival buffering at a message destination node, a message source node can send a corresponding amount of message data to the destination node along with control information in an initial transmission. Any remaining message data is sent only upon receipt by the source node of an acknowledgement from the destination node indicating that the destination node is prepared to receive any remaining data.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2000Date of Patent: April 1, 2003Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Hubertus Franke, Rama K. Patent number: 6539013Abstract: The time slot interchange capabilities of modern digital loop carriers are utilized to provide direct connectivity from the calling modem's line to an internet access modem bank through the digital loop carrier, thereby bypassing the local central end office. A call which is to a telephone number of an internet access provider's modem is routed to a bypass initiator. If the bypass initiator detects that the call is from a number which is serviced by a digital loop carrier having a local central end office bypass capability, then the bypass initiator issues a bypass command. The digital loop carrier establishes the bypass connection, but does not break the signaling connection on the initial call which was routed from the digital loop carrier through the local central end office to the bypass initiator. Once the bypass connection has been established, the bypass initiator sends a disconnect signal through the signaling connection of the initial call.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1997Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Alcatel USA Sourcing, L.P.Inventor: K. Patent number: 6539015Abstract: A system and method using enhanced processing, responsive to domain name translation requests, to provide selective routing services through a public packet switched data network. The name processing applies to translation of a domain name into a group of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses and to providing routing information for a packet data network such as the Internet. Following name translation into a group of addresses communication is automatically established between a calling terminal and a terminal designated by one of the addresses and determined through processing which effects linkage with the first terminal to respond. The selective routing is particularly advantageous for processing of voice telephone communications through the Internet packet data network based on domain name translations.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Verizon Services Corp.Inventor: Eric A. Patent number: 6510148Abstract: This invention applies to a mobile station that is able to determine a required data rate based on data buffer usage. If the data buffer indicates a requirement for a high data rate transmission, the mobile station sends a request to a base station to be assigned multiple parallel code channels. If the multiple parallel code channels are granted, the mobile station uses the channels for transmitting data to the base station until either the data buffer becomes empty, or a base station time-out occurs, or the mobile station is signalled by the base station to reduce its data transmission rate, whichever occurs first. The mobile station of this invention is enabled to autonomously control the data rate during an assigned period for high speed transmission, so as to lower the data rate when needed for the purpose of improving coverage and/or to avoid operating in a power limited condition, thereby degrading link quality.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2000Date of Patent: January 21, 2003Assignee: Nokia Mobile Phones Ltd.Inventor: Zhichun Honkasalo
