  • Patent number: 11064511
Abstract: Described embodiments include a system that includes a network interface and a processor. The network interface is configured to receive, at a first time, a packet transmitted from a source communication terminal over a communication network en route to a target communication terminal, before the packet passes through a particular portion of the communication network, and to receive the packet at a second time, after the packet has passed through the particular portion of the communication network. The processor is configured to delay the packet, subsequently to the packet being received at the second time, by a delay duration that is a decreasing function of a duration between the first time and the second time, and to send the delayed packet, subsequently, via the network interface, en route to the target communication terminal. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: Waterfall granting may be provided. First, a plurality of grants may be received for a service flow. Then a first plurality of packets may be placed in a first queue associated with the service flow in response to determining that the first plurality of packets corresponding to the service flow are associated with a first quality of service level. Next, a second plurality of packets may be placed in a second queue associated with the service flow in response to determining that the second plurality of packets corresponding to the service flow are associated with a second quality of service level. The first plurality of packets in the first queue may then be serviced from the plurality of grants until all the first plurality of packets in the first queue are serviced before servicing any of the second plurality of packets in the second queue with remaining ones of the plurality of grants.

  • Patent number: 10993274
Abstract: In some implementations a system can be configured to reduce the burden of pairing user devices with playback devices. For example, all users (or user devices) who commonly operate within a particular environment (e.g., a home) can be configured as authorized users of playback devices within the particular environment. When one of the authorized users pairs a user device with a playback device, all of the user devices for all authorized users can be automatically paired with the playback device as a result of the single pairing. Thus, only a single authorized user is burdened with the pairing process in order to pair all authorized users with the playback device.

  • Patent number: 10959126
Abstract: Techniques for wireless transmission of data are provided, in which data representing a plurality of frames of a time-sequential signal are encoded. The encoded data are temporarily retained in a memory buffer before wireless transmission. A current number of frames of the encoded data awaiting transmission is determined, and a compression rate is selected for encoding the next frame of data of the time-sequential signal based on the determined number of stored frames in the memory buffer. The selected compression rate is used to encode the next frame of the time-sequential signal, which is added to the encoded data stored in the memory buffer and wirelessly transmitted from the memory buffer. The present disclosure is applicable to a smartphone and a portable player, for example.

  • Patent number: 10945244
Abstract: A grant-free transmission mode may be used to communicate small traffic transmissions to reduce overhead and latency. The grant-free transmission mode may be used in downlink and uplink data channels of a wireless network. In the downlink channel, a base station transmits packets to a group of UEs in a search space without communicating any transmission code assignments to the UEs. The UEs receive the downlink packets using blind detection. In the uplink channel, UEs transmit packets in an access space using assigned access codes which are either independently derived by the UEs or otherwise communicated by the base station using a slow-signaling channel. Hence, the grant-free transmission mode allows mobile devices to make small traffic transmissions without waiting for uplink grant requests.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method and corresponding apparatus to help manage wireless communication between a base station and a device served by the base. In accordance with the disclosure, when a base station transitions from serving the device on just a first carrier to serving the device on a combination of the first carrier and a second carrier, the base station will responsively take action to improve downlink communication to the device on the first carrier.
