  • Patent number: 9308716
Abstract: A method and a device for placing a flexible printing plate in its register position, by placing the printing plate on a carrier, detecting the position of at least two reference marks, the relative position of which is known, by means of a camera while the printing plate is placed on the carrier, and transporting the printing plate to the register position. Prior to detecting the position of the reference marks, at least one of the reference marks is defined by moving the camera until a point within the part of the image whose relative position is known falls within the part of the image detected by the camera, and the position of the reference mark is stored together with properties of the reference mark detected by the camera.

  • Patent number: 9280120
Abstract: A decolorizing apparatus includes first and second heating units, first and second heat source units, and a controller. The first and second heating units decolorize an image using decolorable colorants which are decolorized if heated. The first heating unit heats one surface of a sheet. The second heating unit heats a remaining surface which is opposite to the one surface of the sheet heated by the first heating unit. The first heat source unit heats the first heating unit. The second heat source unit heats the second heating unit. The controller includes a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode, the controller performs a decolorizing process on both the surfaces of the sheet by heating the first and second heating units using the first and second heat source units.

  • Patent number: 9272532
Abstract: Forming an imaging blanket for a printing apparatus includes depositing a patternable material over a substrate, etching the patternable material according to a desired exposure pattern, hardening the etched patternable material to thereby form a template surface comprising a desired template pattern of texture features, depositing a layer of curable liquid polymer over and in physical contact with the template surface, curing the liquid polymer to thereby form the imaging blanket, and removing the imaging blanket from the template surface to thereby expose a patterned imaging surface of the imaging blanket. The image blanket may thereby be provided with a desired texture surface, for example comprised of individual molded image blanket features, such as recesses or pillars, of a desired cross-sectional shape. The image blanket is configured for and may be disposed on an image forming member of a variable data lithography system.

  • Patent number: 9272506
Abstract: A system and method are provided for providing an improved inker unit surface cleaning and conditioning system, including in a single anilox chamber blade system, for improving image quality, including eliminating ghosting, in a proposed variable data digital lithographic image forming architecture. Techniques are provided to remove acquired oil from an inking member. A particularly-configured containment encloses a cleaner (disturber) roller to emulsify the acquired oil on the inking roller. The cleaner roller is preferably configured with a pliable surface including a silicon roller surface over a porous base. The silicon roller (1) absorbs dampening solution oil; and (2) agitates ink that may be still held in certain cells/cavities of the inking member or roller. In embodiments, a vacuum pressure is applied to the inside of the hollow cleaner roller to better remove the residual ink and dampening solution from the inking roller.

  • Patent number: 9256811
Abstract: A head performs recording or reading information with respect to a sheet-shaped recording medium. A pair of rollers sandwich therebetween and transport the recording medium in a transport path of the recording medium passing through the head. A cantilevered frame extends while being cantilevered in a direction traversing the transport path. One end of an opening and closing unit is rotatably supported by the cantilevered frame. The opening and closing unit is revolvable around the one end to move between a closed position where the opening and closing unit covers at least a transport portion by the pair of rollers in the transport path and an open position where the transport position is exposed to the outside.

  • Patent number: 9216568
Abstract: A variable lithographic inking system includes a chamber blade system configured to supply ink to an anilox member of an inking system. The inking system includes a soft ink transfer roll and a hard form roll. Ink is transferred from the anilox roll to the form roll by way of the transfer roll, and from the form roll to a reimageable surface layer of an imaging member of a variable data lithographic system. An ink layer free of ink history is uniformly applied onto a surface of the form roll, and subsequently transferred to the reimageable surface layer while avoiding or substantially eliminating image ghosting related to inking non-uniformities.

Abstract: A stapling section staples a sheet has an opening. The opening has a first open side facing a moving direction of a recording medium moved by the medium moving section and a second open side extending along the moving direction. A shutter is near the second open side in the stapling section. The shutter has a first end axially supported in a freely rotatable manner on an upstream side in the moving direction for arranging the sheet at the stapling position, and a second end portion that hangs down toward the downstream side in the moving direction. When the sheet is not in the stapling section, the second end of the shutter hangs down to block the second open side. When the sheet enters the stapling section through the opening section, the second end of the shutter is pushed up by the axially supported end as the support shaft.
