  • Patent number: 9031423
Abstract: A printing system includes: a printing unit that performs printing on a sheet; a conveyance mechanism that has a printing path for guiding a sheet to a printing position of the printing unit and a reverse path for reversing the sheet passing through the printing position and guiding the sheet again to the printing position; a control unit that performs double-side printing processing depending on a plurality of methods in which maximum numbers of the sheets existing in the conveyance mechanism at the same time are different from each other; and a determination unit that determines a probability of sheet jamming occurring in the conveyance mechanism. When the determination unit determines that the jamming occurrence probability is high, the control unit selects the method in which the maximum sheet number is small, and performs the double-side printing processing in accordance with the selected method.

  • Patent number: 9021949
Abstract: In a variable data lithography system that employs a patterned dampening fluid layer for image formation, dampening fluid may be removed prior to image transfer to a substrate. Removed dampening fluid may be recovered and recycled to reduce operating expenses and environmental waste. A replacement fluid may be applied after inking and after removal of the dampening fluid. The replacement fluid preferentially occupies the regions previously occupied by dampening fluid, and may lubricate the transfer nip. Any replacement fluid and ink not transferred to the substrate upon printing may then be cleaned from the print image carrier prior to forming a new dampening fluid layer and subsequent pattern formation.

  • Patent number: 8967042
Abstract: A printing apparatus for manufacturing a spacer includes a printing plate and a printing roller. The printing plate has a plurality of receiving recesses formed thereon. The receiving recess has a generally elliptical shape. The receiving recesses are infiltrated with a plurality of beads. The printing roller transfers the beads onto its outer surface by rolling over the receiving recesses, and transfers the beads from its outer surface onto an external substrate. Thus, the spacers may maintain a distance between the first and second substrates stably, so that press characteristics may be enhanced and smear defects occurring when the display panel is pressed may be prevented.

  • Patent number: 8934830
Abstract: This invention provides a looped item or device attached to a document cover of a xerographic copier so that a wheelchair occupant can pull the document cover down over the platen glass. Better copies are obtained when the cover is down and the automatic document feeder is not accessible until the document cover is down over the platen glass. This invention provides a simple but effective way for a wheelchair occupant to easily use the automatic document feeder even when a previous user of the copier leaves the document cover up away from the platen glass. The loop provided in the looped item (lanyard or handle) is important to this invention.

  • Patent number: 8910570
Abstract: A rotary die apparatus and method for determining a registration error of a pattern applied to a strip of material by a rotary die. The rotary die apparatus may comprise the rotary die and a control system which senses signals from a sensor and a rotary encoder to determine an actual position of the rotary die when a fiducial on the strip of material is sensed. The control system may calculate the registration error by comparing the actual position with a registration target corresponding to a pattern length. The pattern length may correspond to the number of encoder pulses output per revolution of the rotary die divided by the number of patterns spaced apart around the circumference of the rotary die. An encoder count used to determine the actual position of the rotary die may reset each time it reaches the pattern length.
