Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for configuring a control message in a broadcasting system for supporting a multimedia service based on an interne protocol. To this end, control information to be recorded in a payload of a control message to be configured is generated based on a table selected from among a plurality of tables for defining the information related to the generation and consumption of a hybrid content when a message type of the control message to be configured is determined to be a type for providing information related to the generation and consumption of a hybrid content. In addition, the information related to the type of the selected table is recorded in an optional field of the control message to be configured.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for managing content delivery in a packetized network. The network provide content to a plurality of clients via a plurality of nodes. A security threat associated with one of the nodes is detected and in response the host uses border gateway protocol to communicate non-forwarding table information informing one or more nodes of the network of the threat. In another variant, communication allows the nodes to take local action to protect themselves. This same local action occurs on the host, allowing it to continue serving content. The host utilizes BGP to dynamically inform nodes of changes in the network traffic delivery rules, such as causing traffic to different clients having different levels of reliability and/or provided on a best-effort basis. The BGP may be utilized to add/remove routes or nodes and to identify and respond to potentially malicious activities, changes in network configuration, and/or delivery requirements.

Abstract: A method of video distribution including receiving a manifest including links to blocks, which blocks form at least a portion of a video program, selecting at least some of the links in the manifest, to which auxiliary information is to be added and adding, to each of the selected links, auxiliary information, which does not affect a block referred to by the link. A log of links requested by clients is retrieved from a storage unit, links relating to a specific video program are filtered from the retrieved log, and information on an extent to which the specific video program was viewed, is determined responsive to the filtered links.

Abstract: Disclosed example apparatus to determine volume of switching (VoS) among television programs examine first viewing data associated with a first time period and second viewing data associated with a second time period to identify a first set of panelists represented in both the first and second viewing data; in response to a size of the first set of panelists satisfying both first and second thresholds, estimate the VoS based on a first subset of the first viewing data and a second subset of the second viewing data associated with the first set of panelists; and in response to the size of the first set of panelists satisfying the first but not the second threshold, estimate the VoS based on the first and second subsets, and a third subset of the first viewing data and a fourth subset of the second viewing data associated with a second set of panelists.

Abstract: A real-time content identification and tracking system enabling monitoring of television programming consumption specific to an individual television or other viewing device. Metrics collected may include data regarding viewing of specific broadcast media, commercial messages, interactive on-screen information or other programming, as well as locally cached, time-shifted programming. Information about media consumption by such specific television sets or other viewing means may be returned to a commercial client of the system through a trusted third-party intermediary service and, in certain embodiments, encoded tokens may be used to manage the display of certain events as well as to enable robust auditing of each involved party's contractual performance.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for delivering a spatially enhanced live streaming experience for virtual reality or 360 degree live streaming of video is disclosed. A live streaming video signal is encoded into multiple streams at varying resolutions. A portion of the high resolution video stream, corresponding to a field of view within the entire 360 degree view, is merged with a low resolution video stream. The resulting video stream is referred to as a spatial adaptive video stream. Multiple spatial adaptive video streams are generated to provide a high resolution field of view across the entire 360 degrees. As the viewer looks in different directions, the video player plays back one of the spatial adaptive video streams according to the direction in which the viewer is looking.

Abstract: A video stream control method, system, and a computer program product include analyzing a video stream to identify a section of the video stream where a condition will occur, delivering a notification that the condition will occur in the section of the video stream and modifying the video stream before the section of the video stream is played, and selecting a type of delivery of the section of the video stream based on a set of rules factoring the condition and user data at a time of the notification.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus to identify media content using temporal signal characteristics are disclosed. An example method includes generating a reference signature based on a reference signal corresponding to known media, generating sums based on peaks in a media signal corresponding to media, identifying signal peaks based on the generated sums, generating a second signature based on normalized curve features, wherein the normalized curve features respectively correspond to the identified signal peaks at a corresponding temporal locations of the corresponding signal peak, and determining whether the media signal corresponds to the reference signal based on a comparison of the reference signature and the second signature.

Abstract: A method for programming an electronic program guide (EPG) grid guide is disclosed herein. The method includes determining EPG metadata from a database, sorting metadata based on a time and a metadata field, determining the metadata field to be displayed, and rendering the EPG grid guide based on the time and the metadata field. A method for programming a set top box (STB) is also disclosed herein. The method includes providing a time of day, receiving a user's viewing preferences, adjusting information based on the user's viewing preferences in at least one application, wherein the user's viewing preferences are a function of the time of day, and transmitting the adjusted information to a display device.

Multimedia content is received by a first tuner over one or more channels. A request is received from a networked device for the multimedia content from a particular one of the channels. The requested multimedia content is unavailable to a second tuner of the networked device. The requested multimedia content is provided over a network to the networked device.

Abstract: A display apparatus for searching and a control method thereof are provided. The method includes displaying an image content, determining whether a search function is performed while the image content is displayed, and in response to the determining that the search function is performed while the image content is displayed, transmitting information of the image content to an external server. The method further includes receiving, from the external server, information of a search record of one or more viewers of the image content, and providing information of one or more search terms that are related to the image content, based on the information of the search record.

Abstract: A system is provided for streaming media content in a vehicle. The system includes a personal media streaming appliance system configured to connect to a media delivery system and receive media content from the media delivery system at least via a cellular network. The personal media streaming appliance system includes one or more preset buttons for playing media content associated with the preset buttons. The media contents associated with the preset buttons are automatically determined to be personalized to the user of the system.

The method further includes sending search requests that include the identified metadata to a search system for selecting at least one portable program module. Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are described for automatically navigating a graphical user interface (GUI) of a media device. In embodiments, objects (e.g. selectable items) in device GUI menu screens may be located, identified, and selected by another device (e.g., a switch) using several types of image processing, image recognition, and automated screen navigation techniques. For instance, a device may receive an operation request, for example from a user, receive a video signal from the connected media device, extract a video frame, process the video frame using one or more algorithms, and automatically navigate the GUI of the device by transmitting one more navigation commands for application to the GUI. In this manner, multi-step, time-consuming manual GUI navigation to achieve a desired result may be reduced to an automated technique, allowing users to save time and frustration in navigating a GUI using a remote control to find a particular resource.

Abstract: A media presentation and distribution system communicatively coupled to a client device, which handles enablement of a client-side dynamic presentation of at least one non-programming media asset along with programming media content. The client device receives a first media stream of the programming media content in response to a request, associated with at least one user preference for the programming media content, to the media presentation and distribution system. The client device identifies at least one tag in the programming media content and transmits at least one event opportunity point for selection to the media presentation distribution system. Based on the selection, the client device modifies a display view of the client device for a defined duration, and presents the at least one non-programming media asset, from a second media stream for the defined duration, concurrently with the programming media content over the modified display view of the client device.
