  • Patent number: 4134362
Abstract: Apparatus for applying fluid coloring material to the sidewall of a vehicle tire and including a stand adapted for placement on a supporting surface adjacent the vehicle tire. A holder including an applicator is mounted to the stand. The holder is vertically adjustable and the applicator is outwardly movable to apply coloring material to the vehicle tire sidewall. The applicator is normally biased into engagement with the sidewall, but a holding element is operative to hold the applicator away from the sidewall in an inoperative position when desired. The stand includes a base having a foot shelf extending inwardly of the base periphery whereby an operator can steady the stand by applying foot pressure to the inner extremity of the foot shelf.

  • Patent number: 4133293
Abstract: A liquid feeding system includes a plurality of adjacent liquid feeding chambers having outlets disposed in a laterally aligned integral assembly to supply liquid to a substrate material passing across the outlets. The liquid feeding chambers are divided by vertical partitions into independent units of substantially uniform width and height. A plurality of liquid control means detachably engage the partitions and extend from the chamber outlets to contact the substrate and provide longitudinal passages having selective restricted openings and solidly enclosed sealed boundaries. The liquid control means may be in the form of like sized apertured inserts fitting into the outlets between the partitions and permitting liquid flow only through the selectively dimensioned apertures. Adjacent inserts may include laterally communicating channels between longitudinal passages and overlapping apertures to provide openings of larger widths and varying patterns.

  • Patent number: 4133291
Abstract: A metal wick to be used for the absorption of molten solder is deoxidized and flux coated by a process that does not involve the application of heat to the wick or the flux. In one embodiment the wick is cleaned by heating in a reducing atmosphere and is then immersed in a coating bath containing a solution of a rosin flux in an organic solvent. On leaving the bath the welted wick enters a low-pressure chamber in which the solvent rapidly evaporates at room temperature. In another embodiment the deoxidized wick is coated with comminuted solid resin by electro-static means.

  • Patent number: 4132191
Abstract: Method and apparatus for handling a plurality of glass containers moving on a conveyor at spaced intervals to a coating application area where three containers as a group are simultaneously grasped about their side wall and retracted laterally from the surface of the conveyor. This group of containers is then moved through a 90.degree. arc such that the containers exhibit horizontal axes one above the other. After the articles are turned to the horizontal, they are moved into position between three heel and neck-engaging chucks carried by an indexible turret. The bottles are released to the chucks which are cam actuated in timed relationship with respect to the grasping means so that the grasping means will release the containers or bottles to the chucks. With the chucks holding the bottles in horizontal position, the turret rotates about a horizontal axis parallel to the axes of the bottles through an arc of 90.degree. and presents the chucks in a horizontal line at the bottom of the turret.

  • Patent number: 4131080
Abstract: A thin walled cylinder open at both ends and having an outwardly extending flange at its lower end provides a shield useful for making pizzas. When the shield is placed on a sheet of pizza dough, its cylindrical wall surrounds the area of application of pizza topping ingredients and the flange provides a clean border around the edge of the finished pizza.

  • Patent number: 4129092
Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a apparatus for spray painting of large, irregularly shaped articles, where the shape and size of the articles require relative movement between the article and the spray applicator in at least two axes. One, and preferably a plurality of atomizing nozzles are arranged to be rotated about a predetermined axis and are oriented at a substantial angle to such axis. The article to be coated is conveyed past the spray station along one axis, and the rotating spray unit is reciprocated along a second axis at right angles to said axis of conveyance. The orientation and positioning of the atomizing heads is such that the spray fans intercept the primary work surfaces relatively close to the intersection therewith of the axis of spray head rotation. In addition, the rate of spray head rotation is so controlled, in relation to the rate of reciprocation and the rate of conveyance that the spray fans of coating material describe a path in the nature of a tight curtate cycloid.

  • Patent number: 4129093
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for applying liquid to a series of individual, substantially flat objects. The apparatus is particularly adapted for staining microscope slides. The apparatus comprises a fixed plate member and preferably an opposing plate member positioned substantially parallel to and movable toward and away from the fixed plate member, aligned by means of at least one guide member which engages said plate members. A series of movable spacing shims extend along the guide member for separating flat objects, such as glass slides. The flat objects are inserted into the apparartus while the movable plate member is positioned away from the fixed plate member. Once the flat objects have been inserted in the apparatus between adjacent spacing shims the movable plate member is moved toward the fixed plate member to clamp the flat objects in predetermined spaced parallel face-to-face relation.

  • Patent number: 4122799
Abstract: An expandable linear guide is releasably affixed to a wall at a desired space below a ceiling meeting the wall. A paint applying device is removably mounted on the guide for movement along the length of the guide and includes a roller in abutment with the wall. A pulley and cord arrangement is mounted on the guide and coupled to the paint applying device for moving the paint applying device along the length of the guide, as desired.
