  • Patent number: 4759960
Abstract: A die bar having an integral locking means for selectively engaging transport cables located along the process path of a wire coating apparatus is disclosed. The locking means allows for a die bar to be threaded with wires while in a stationary position, then to engage transport cables which draws the wires along the process path until the die bar reaches a satisfactory position in the process path, where the locking means are released. Claims disclosed are drawn to a die bar with integral locking means, and to a method of transporting wires along the process path using the disclosed die bar.

  • Patent number: 4757783
Abstract: A container-to-tape dispenser for drywall joint compound intended for use in a point-of-purchase container holding a supply of the compound. The dispenser includes a main body having a generally rectangular elongated base and an inverted generally U-shaped top portion. The main body is removably mounted in and extends between diametrically opposed tape entrance and exit slots formed in the container. A longitudinally extending channel is formed between the base and the top portion. An opening is formed in the top portion to permit a supply of the compound to flow into the channel. The top portion further has a pair of identical spaced side extensions, with a pair of spaced side grooves being formed between the base and said extensions. The grooves function as guides when pulling a length of tape through the dispenser and maintain the edges of the tape relatively dry and free from compound.

  • Patent number: 4757782
Abstract: Apparatus for coating a web, such as paper or board web, comprises a coating nip formed between a rotating counter roll and a smoothing member, or between two smoothing members, through which the web to be coated is passed with a coating substance being applied to the web before it passes through the nip. The apparatus comprises an arrangement by which the linear load and/or the distribution of the linear load in the coating nip is adjustable to control the quantity and/or the distribution of the quantity of the coating substance applied to the web in the transverse direction thereof. A smoothing member comprises an elongate member extending transversely to the direction of web movement through the apparatus and is flexible with respect to its longitudinal dimension so that the profile of the load distribution in the nip can be adjusted to be relatively steep, i.e, the load in the nip may differ relatively widely at points which are relatively close to each other.

  • Patent number: 4735169
Abstract: An applicator assembly for applying hot melt adhesive to a substrate such as the end flaps of a sift-proof carton includes slot nozzles employing elongated, wear-resistant doctor blades formed with a fluid discharge slot. The doctor blades, preferably in the form of hardened steel plates, are releasably clamped to the body of the applicator in communication with the outlet of an internal passageway in the applicator body which receives adhesive from a flow control device such as an adhesive gun. The plates forming the doctor blades are separated by a shim to define the fluid discharge slot into which the adhesive flows from the internal passageway. The lowermost ends of the doctor blades are formed in various configurations to spread the adhesive in the desired pattern or thickness on the substrate depending upon the type of adhesive employed or the requirements of a given application.
