  • Patent number: 4728787
Abstract: A process of aligning electro-optical devices that associate a semiconductor, laser diode or electroluminescent component with an optical component, such as an optical fiber. These devices must be aligned with a precision of from .+-.1 to .+-.10.mu.. The semiconductor component is integral with a centering part through the intermediary of a first bracket. The optical component, through the intermediary of a second bracket, is integral with a container in which is placed a hardening material. The centering part is plunged in the hardening material, with three degrees of mobility. The alignment is dynamic. When adjustment has been made, the hardening material is rapidly and rigidly fixed.

  • Patent number: 4724793
Abstract: A device for pressure feeding or injecting a liquid chemical such as a fumigant or the like into a wooden pole is described. One form of the invention comprises a plug member having a threaded shank portion and a hexagonal head portion. A longitudinally extending bore extends through the head portion and the shank portion. A one-way check valve is inserted into the outer end of the longitudinally extending bore to provide a means for injecting the liquid chemical into the pole. A bleeder opening is formed in the shank portion which extends outwardly from the longitudinally extending bore to enable air to be discharged therefrom as the liquid chemical is initially injected into the bore. A modified form of the invention is also described.

  • Patent number: 4724794
Abstract: Fluid-assisted granulating and coating apparatus having a circular planar material circulation plate assembly rotatably mounted coaxilly within a cylindrical work area of an upright vessel, the plate assembly including a plurality of concentric circular slots opening radially outwardly into the work area for directing a suspension fluid radially outwardly thereinto for enhanced material circulation in a circularly spiraling fashion without undesirable concentration or stagnation of charge material within the work area and without undesirable material loss through or clogging of the fluid flow slots. This remarkable effectiveness of the apparatus enables its operation under either fluidized or non-fluidized conditions to provide significant flexibility in controlling the characteristics of granules produced.

  • Patent number: 4723506
Abstract: A machine is disclosed which deposits powder in a selected configuration, fuses the configured powder into a laminate and adheres the fused laminate to a shoe substrate. The machine has a two part clamp which is displaceable from a retracted position to a clamp position. The part that is to clamp the substrate is interconnected with the other part by pins which extend through slots in the clamping part. The slots are wider than the pins so that relative linear and swivel motion is possible between this part.

  • Patent number: 4722297
Abstract: A coater applies ultraviolet curable coating material to the opposite sides of roll film by a double-sided coater which employs offset coating rolls and smoothing bars. A splice detector responds to the occurrence of a splice upstream of the coater and causes the splice region to move through the coater without applying coating material to the splice region, by lifting the emulsion side of the film off of the coating roll as the splice passes and by temporarily and sequentially interrupting the operation of the smoothing bars and the offset applicator roller on the non-emulsion or base side, concurrently with the passage of the splice therepast. In a second embodiment, the film is lifted by lifting bars off of both coating rolls and tension on the film is concurrently decreased in the coater to prevent marking of the surface of the coated film by the final smoothing bars.

  • Patent number: 4712506
Abstract: A system for two-sided coating of a running paper web. The device comprises an application device for spreading the coating material over both sides of the web running through a first nip formed by a rotating counter roll and a levelling member.According to the invention, the device includes an auxiliary roll, which is, in the direction of progress of the web, fitted at a certain distance from the first nip and which, together with the counter roll, forms a second nip for the web which has followed along with the said roll over the distance. The diameter of the auxiliary roll is substantially smaller than the diameter of the counter roll, and the face of the auxiliary roll is substantially harder than that of the counter roll. By means of the invention, the risk of damaging the coating at the side of the web facing the roll can be reduced by the web being detached from the second nip formed between the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4706602
Abstract: A clamp for dipping printed circuit boards into a solder bath of a solder coater machine is disclosed. The clamp comprises first and second interdigitated, coplanar fingers connected respectively at common ends thereof to a pair of spaced, parallel first and second plates. Pivot pins respectively connect adjacent first and second fingers to each other to define a pivot axis extending parallel to and between the distal ends of fingers and the first and second plates. The second plate is spring biased from and movable towards the first plate under an applied actuating force to pivot the second fingers out the plane of the first fingers enabling insertion of a printed circuit board between clamping surfaces defined by the distal ends. The pivot pins and spring mechanism are spaced a sufficient distance from the distal ends to avoid contamination by solder particles and flux during the coating process and to avoid interference with air leveling knives closely spaced to the coated board upon removal from the bath.

  • Patent number: 4704305
Abstract: Solder paste is automatically applied to circuit boards, in predetermined amounts at predetermined positions by providing a plurality of holes in a nylon, "Delrin," "Teflon" or other plastic-metal plate, the holes being in a predetermined pattern, filling solder paste into the holes which are facing in an upward direction pivoting the plate over the circuit board, and ejecting the solder paste onto a circuit board. Conveniently the solder paste is ejected by pins mounted on a further plate and reciprocated in the holes. The position of the pins in the holes during filling determines the amount of solder paste filled into the holes.

  • Patent number: 4704308
Abstract: A method and apparatus for maintaining a glue applicator unit ready for operation after short or long term stoppages of a gluing operation. During short term stoppages, the applicator unit is pivoted away from the workpieces to which the glue is to be applied to a first rest position at which the nozzles are brought into tight engagement with a sealing means that includes a yieldable surface to surround and overlie the nozzles to provide an airtight seal. During long-term stoppages the glue applicators are pivoted beyond the first rest position to a second rest position at which the nozzles are in communication with a drain channel and purge fluid is sent through the applicator to pass through the nozzles and carry the glue and purge fluid to a collecting container, so that the nozzles are clear for subsequent start-up of the glue-applying operation.
