Abstract: A store cart having a clipboard fixed thereto for retaining items such as discount coupons or shopping lists used in the store; and the support of the clipboard is by a loose but positive connection to the cart handle. The clipboard is swingable on the handle between a hanging-down position, and a generally horizontal position for presentation of all the store items to the cart user. The clipboard's length permits it to be also supported by a fixed frame portion of the cart basket, and independent of any foldable partition of the basket; and in each of its positions not interfering with the nesting characteristic of stored carts awaiting use.

Abstract: A trifurcated terminal (10) which is mounted in an aperture (52) in a plastic terminal block (51) is made from flat metallic material and includes a base having a center beam and two lateral beams (18-18) extending therefrom. Portions of the beams define conductor-receiving slots (31-31) having entries (23-23) which establish electrical engagement with insulated conductors (11-11). The center beam includes a locking element (71) which protrudes from one side thereof and which is received in a recess (72) that communicates with the aperture in the plastic block to support the center beam against substantial deflection during insertion of the conductors in either slot. This arrangement permits the beams to be proportioned to engage and retain the conductors without damaging them while having widths which do not cumulatively exceed the width of priorly used terminals in order to preserve the density of a plurality of terminals in a predetermined geometrical arrangement in the terminal block.

Abstract: A method for binding a book wherein the backbone of printed and folded signatures receives a heat activated glue. A short reinforcing cover whose inner surface is also covered with a heat activated glue is applied to the backbone. The outer portions of the short cover are then bonded to the outer pages of the signatures, under sufficient heat and pressure to form a strong bond. A hard cover of suitable size and shape is then glued to the outside of the short cover and the signatures.

Abstract: A portfolio with a ring or other type binder for securing visual display material uniformly while being carried or during visual display presentations. This box-like portfolio features a double hinged top which, when mobilized by use of its pull strap feature, activates its lid and its internal members, opening the portfolio to form a unique presentation easel which serves to produce an impressive prelude to any visual display presentation.

Abstract: A door closer assembly for controlling the operation of a door relative to a door frame includes a door closer mounted on the door and an articulated arm assembly which has one end attached to the door closer and the other end pivotally secured to a slide block which travels in a track mounted on the door frame. The slide block is affixed to a piston rod, which comprises part of a fluid piston-cylinder assembly also mounted on the door frame, and is located at the end of the track remote from the hinged edge of the door when the door is fully closed. When the door is opened beyond a predetermined angular position relative to the door frame the slide block moves within the track and in the direction of the hinged edge to another location within the track wherein it is releasably retained by the piston-cylinder assembly until the door is nearly fully closed by the reaction force of the door closer.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a device for obtaining accurate registration of handwritten impressions on continuous business form sets which are detachable into individual form sets by means of longitudinally spaced transverse perforations. The device includes a pocket for receiving the continuous business form sets folded in a zig-zag manner and has a registration plate defining a writing surface for the individual business form set upon which a handwritten entry is made. The outer edge of the registration plate coacts with the transverse perforation to ensure accurate registration of the original sheet and copy sheets of an individual business form set upon which a handwritten entry is made.

Abstract: A device for providing a rapid, secure and insulated electrical splice by solderless means, comprising a body having a channel exposed along the upper surface of the body. The ends of the channel being connected to a first and a second opening on the ends of the body to accept the wires to be spliced. A substantially flat, conductive interconnection bar is positioned in the upper portion of the channel. Conductive prongs, projecting downward from the lower side of the interconnection bar, pierce the insulation of the wires to make the splice. An inverted "V" shaped cut in the prongs permit accepting a variety of wire sizes.

Abstract: A binder of the ring type includes fixed and pivot rods with their free ends being bent in opposite relation. The pivot rods are attached to a pivot plate. The pivot plate is mounted on a bottom plate in such a manner that it is always biased by a spring in its opening direction. A pivot arm is provided, including an upper member and a lower member formed by bending a metal material. The pivot and bottom plate are clamped between the upper and lower members. To prevent excessive pivot movement of the pivotal arm, a stopper means is provided at the extremity of the pivot end of the pivot arm.

Abstract: A multi-pocket pad (folder) is formed from a one-piece paperboard blank. The folder includes a cover panel, two body panels and two pad retention panels which are adhered in a face-to-face relationship. Flap members, connected by fold lines on the opposite ends of the body panels, form a plurality of pockets. A retention panel has a structure, such as a slit or holes, to hold a notebook. An elongated panel (spline) may be used to hold a pen and the cover panel may be removably joined to a pad retention panel to close the folder.

Abstract: An integral thermoplastic biasing hinge is disclosed. Hinged plate members are biased to achieve one of two positions, e.g., an open or closed position by the utilization of a spring member having two arms which are resiliently connected at one of their ends and hingedly connected to the plate members at their other ends.

Abstract: A ball lock assembly is provided which permits preconstruction of certain ones of the assembly components. Consequently, the assembly, in kit form, has few parts, and may be integrated simply in a final binder construction by a binder manufacturer. The lock assembly includes a ball lock device having a first and second end. The ball lock device has an axial opening through it. A first end of the ball lock device receives a post of a suitable loose leaf metal used in the manufacture of a complete binder while the second end is constructed to permit attachment of a pull ring. The lock device includes a lock extension having a ball container movably mounted in it. A retaining sleeve is positioned between an internal diameter of the lock extension and an external diameter of the ball container. The sleeve permits the preassembly of the various parts of the ball lock device so that the lock assembly may be sold in kit form.

Abstract: A cord weight pulley assembly for traverse rod installations in which the housing is formed in one piece and includes a first housing section having a lower weight receiving cavity and an upper pulley receiving cavity, a second housing section integrally connected to the first housing section and movable to a closed position overlying the weight receiving cavity, and a third housing section integrally connected to the second housing section and movable to a closed position overlying the pulley receiving cavity.

Abstract: An improved book which is bound ready to be covered or cased consists of a pack of signatures plus front and back end sheets, with the signatures closed along the spine and a multiplicity of closely spaced, wide open notches penetrating the entire spine and all the closed sides of sheets in the pack to greatly enlarge the area of the spine to which adhesive may be applied. A wrap-around coating of adhesive covers the surfaces of the notches, the spine between the notches, and the faces of the end sheets between the notches.

Abstract: This device consists primarily of an upright backing member, called a backrest, having a perpendicular lip extending out from its base in a forward direction, and located at the inside bend of said perpendicular lip and backrest, is a spacer upon which an open book's weight is supported at its lower edges while its covers lean against said backrest.

Abstract: A durable weather and corrosive environment resistant and tamper-proof data record tag having a durable backing member and an adhesive clear cover member, this cover member including a releasable separator sheet adhered thereto; a plurality of identical record form sheets, stacked or layered one upon another and upon the backing member for providing a duplicate identical record of information simultaneously written on to each of the record sheets and on the backing member, whereof the layered sheets are attached at one end to the backing member, these layered sheets and the backing member each containing a weakened portion adjacent the attachment.

Abstract: A grommet assembly has a two-piece grommet comprising a shank and a flange at a rearward end of the shank for locating the shank in a panel aperture. The shank has a rigid projection at one side which is spaced from the flange to form a slot for receiving an edge portion of the panel and pivoting the shank into the aperture. The shank also has a flexible arm opposite the rigid projection which has spaced projections for engaging the backside of the panel when the shank is pivoted into the aperture. The assembly includes a gasket for sealing against the face of the panel and a U-shaped retainer which is mounted on the shank after insertion for securely fastening the grommet assembly to the panel and insuring a good face seal at the gasket.

Abstract: An improved hinge for a collapsible ladder includes a pivot pin which has a sufficiently simple construction to permit it to be fabricated by die-casting on a cost-competitive basis. The simple construction is made possible by an improved axial detent arrangement for a shaft which rotates and slides within the hub and to which the hinge locking pins are secured. The detent arrangement includes a detent bore extending radially biased against the shaft. A suitable detent recess in the shaft is angularly aligned with the detent bore for each locking position of the shaft. Axial alignment of the bore and a recess is achieved by fully extending the shaft out of the hub against the restoring force of a bias spring in the hub. The recess and bias member are contoured to permit disengagement of the detent by rotation of the shaft but not by axially applied forces.

Abstract: An identification card constructed of several film layers is provided with a monochrome or polychrome printed pattern. The printed pattern consists of partially overlapping color layers placed over each other and distributed over the surfaces of the film layers.The resulting printed pattern exhibits shadow effects in incident light which are reversed in transmitted light. A certain spatial effect and definite half-tone grading of the printed pattern can be achieved by the number and arrangement of the various printed layers.

Abstract: A survey data collecting system includes a booklet having front and back covers and a plurality of intermediate pages. The back cover is perforated to form a negotiable check, the face of which is on the outer surface of the back cover. The inner surface of the check has several columns of spaces thereon for indicating answers to questions which are written on the intermediate leaves and on the remaining portion of the back cover. The intermediate leaves decrease in width so that each succeeding leaf covers one less column of spaces than the preceding one.

Abstract: A castor comprises separately formed plastics fork halves 53 and 54 with inwardly extending bosses 76 and 77 formed for detachable bayonet interconnection and providing a hub for the castor wheel 50. The upper parts of the fork halves define with the upper and lower ball races 58 and 67 and securing cap 55 inner end outer ball bearing tracks for the swivelling movement of the castor.
