Abstract: A method of promoting growth and enhancing feed efficiency in meat producing animals. The 6' esters of zearalanol are effective growth promoting agents in meat producing animals, particularly ruminants, when implanted subcutaneously in said animals to obtain a controlled release of the compositions.Included in this group of compositions are: zearalanol 6'-butyrate; zearalanol 6'-decanoate; zearalanol 6'-hexanoate; zearalanol 6'-laurate; zearalanol 6'-trichloroacetate; and zearalanol 6'-trifluoroacetate.
Abstract: This invention relates to a topical veterinary composition and a method of using same for the treatment of flesh wounds or lacerations or fistulas in animals and to promote the healing thereof. The composition comprises as the active ingredient tall oil either per se or as a topical veterinary ointment comprising the active ingredient in admixture with a suitable carrier and/or antiseptic.
Abstract: A method of reducing local hemorrhage and tissue necrosis resulting from the bite or sting of a venomous animal whereby an envenomated mammal is treated with a compound of the formula ##STR1## or a corresponding disulfide wherein n is 1, 2 or 3; Z is O, S or NH; R is H, a straight or branched chain lower alkyl group of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, hydroxy, a straight or branched chain lower alkoxy group of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo or trifluoromethyl; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
Abstract: This invention relates to an adjuvant effective for stimulating the production of lymphocytes in the circulating blood of a mammal which adjuvant is an extract from Atractylis lyrata s. et z.
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions containing, as an active ingredient, a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R.sub.2 is (alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms) sulfinyl, or a non-toxic, pharmacologically acceptable acid addition salt thereof; and a method of using the same for the treatment of coronary heart diseases or coronary spasms.

Abstract: An interferon inducer is produced by extracting a tissue of a plant belonging to the Gound family selected from the group consisting of Benincasa, Cucurbita, Citrullus, Cucumia, Lagenaria, Luffa, Mormordica, Tricsanthes and their variants by water extraction at a temperature of from ambient to the boiling point of the extraction mixture, forming a supernatant from the extracted solution, fractionating the supernatant to yield fractions containing the interferon inducer and recovering same.
Abstract: A stable preparation of a lyophilized .beta.-lactam antibacterial containing a 7.beta.-(.alpha.-carboxy-.alpha.-arylacetamido)-7.alpha.-methoxy-3-heteroc yclic thiomethyl-1-dethia-1-oxa-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid (I) alkali metal salt as the antibacterial component and a sugar or sugar alcohol compound as the stabilizing agent.
Abstract: A method of treating or protecting against parasitic diseases caused by members of the protozoan family Trypanosomatidae comprising administering to a mammal a phenothiazine drug. This represents a new use of the phenothiazine compounds.

Abstract: This invention provides an extract from the plant Maytenus nemerosa (Eckl & Zeyh) Morais (Celastroceae) South Africa and a method of obtaining same. The extract is obtained by subjecting the plant to a series of extraction steps with a plurality of solvents having different polarities. In each extraction step, the solvent used has a polarity higher than that used in the preceding extraction step. All extraction steps are conducted at room temperature. The extracts have been found to possess biological activity.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fungicidal composition for agriculture and horticulture comprising at least one adjuvant and, as an effective component, in effective amounts, N-(1-n-butoxy-2,2,2-trichloroethyl) salicylamide and one member selected from the group consisting of (1) pentachloronitrobenzene and (2) tetrachloroisophthalonitrile. This composition is useful to control soil borne plant diseases such as clubroot disease of Cruciferae crops, black scurf of potatoes and damping-off of cucumber and tomato seedlings.
