  • Patent number: 6263761
Abstract: An opener for several different types of pill bottle caps and closures. In the preferred embodiment, the opener is molded as one piece of strong, flexible plastic material that can be repeatedly bent without failing. The opener has the shape of an arch, with a thin section at the top of this arch that acts as a hinge and return spring for the two legs of the arch, which are thicker in section and act as handles to react the forces applied by the user's band. The inside of each handle has a curved surface with teeth on its inside face to grip the outside of a bottle cap. The inside surface of each handle also has a triangular shaped lug that applies a downward force on the top of a bottle cap, and also applies an upward wedge force to pry a bottle cap free. At the bottom of each handle is a second curved surface, as viewed from below, which also has teeth for gripping the outside of a bottle cap.

  • Patent number: 6260451
Abstract: A tool for removing and installing an oil plug of an internal combustion engine comprising a handle, a drive shaft and a tool head. The drive shaft comprises a flexible material suitable for providing improved access to hard to reach oil plugs. The flexibility of the drive shaft also provides a means for limiting torque transmission between the tool and the oil plug, thereby preventing accidental overtightening, and consequent damage to the oil plug. A multitude of tool head designs are also envisioned by the inventor. Each tool head is designed to frictionally engage and retain the oil plug within the tool head during the installation and removal process allowing for easy, single-handed use of the tool during the servicing and repair of an internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 6237446
Abstract: A wrench adapter assembly is provided that can adapt a conventional manual or power wrench to be used to grasp and rotate a smooth-surfaced cylindrical object. The wrench adapter assembly includes of a pivoting hook, a biasing means for the hook, a wrench adapter with a multisided flange for engaging the jaw of a wrench and a concave jaw. The pivoting hook is in circumferential alignment with the concave jaw so as to receive a smooth-surfaced cylindrical article. The flange shoulder has sides that match up with the sides of the jaw of the wrench. Once the wrench adapter assembly is secured within the wrench jaw, it may receive and hold a smooth-surfaced cylindrical article. The wrench adapter rotates with the jaw of the wrench. Thus, the wrench may be used in combination with the wrench adapter assembly to rotate smooth-surfaced cylindrical articles.

  • Patent number: 6223630
Abstract: A wrench has a pair of jaws that are disposed on a handle and are spaced to define an opening for a workpiece. A pair of plates, each of which includes a workpiece engaging surface are mounted on the jaws for selective movement between first and second positions. In the first position, the plates are immobile with respect to each other so that rotation of the handle in a first direction causes the plates to grasp the workpiece between the engaging surfaces and turn the workpiece in the first direction. In the second position, a first one of the plates is pivotable with respect to a second one of the plates so that rotation of the handle in a second, opposite direction causes pivoting of the first plate and allows the engaging surfaces to slide over the workpiece, thereby allowing the workpiece to remain stationary.
