  • Patent number: 6220128
Abstract: A handle of a hand impact tool includes a pair of axial passages defined therein and a first row of axially spaced transverse openings defined in an outer periphery thereof and communicated with one of the axial passages. A second row of axially spaced transverse openings are defined in the outer periphery and communicates with the other axial passage. The axial passages are located in upper and lower end portions of the handle and are semi-circular or crescent in cross section. When hammering an object, the handle deforms not only in the axial direction but also in the radial direction due to provision of the transverse openings to effectively absorb shock resulting from hammering.

  • Patent number: 6216568
Abstract: A set of pliers for easily and quickly removing concentric or standard knockouts from steel outlet boxes and the like. The subject tool is a set of pliers, comprising a first arm having a first end and second end and a second arm having a first end and second end, where the first arm and the second arm are pivotally connected with respect to one another by an interconnecting mechanism located between the first and second ends thereof. The first arm forms a first jaw located above the interconnecting mechanism of the first arm and the second arm forms an opposing, second jaw located above the interconnecting mechanism. The first jaw includes a first projection that extends from an area between the first end of the first arm and the interconnecting mechanism. The second jaw includes a second projection that extends from the end of the second arm. The first projection abuts the second jaw and the second projection abuts the first jaw. Thus, the first and second projections do not touch.

  • Patent number: 6212976
Abstract: A combination torque wrench and positioning assembly are used to provide the torque wrench function to both make up/break out pipe stands and to service drill string. While serving to make up/break out pipe stands, the wrench is positioned over and used in conjunction with a rotary or powered mouse-hole. When servicing drill string, the wrench is positioned over the drill bore rotary table. The combination of the present apparatus allows the rapid make up of pipe stands having individually torqued connections, eliminates the need for top drive torquing, and reduces the need for tongs and spin chains to handle drill pipe.

  • Patent number: 6212721
Abstract: A combined bottle opener and stopper comprises a metal plate with side edges bent downward and inwardly. Opening is performed with the use of a conventional pry off method. Opened bottles are closed with a rubber pad attached to the bottom of a recess on the inner face of the plate. The opener-stopper has three bent edges which have different heights with the difference corresponding to the pitch of the thread on a threaded bottle neck. For temporary closing the bottle, i.e., with beer or carbonated water, the device is screwed onto the threaded bottle neck as a nut until the rubber pad is tightly pressed to the upper face of the bottle to hermetically close the latter. For closing bottles with nonthreaded bottle necks, the device is moved onto the bottle neck by guiding the convergent bent edges over the neck in a direction transverse to the bottle's axis until the device is fixed tightly on the bottle due to convergence of the bent edges with the rubber pad, thereby to seal the bottle's opening.

  • Patent number: 6209422
Abstract: A ratchet wrench is designed to prevent overshooting and unintended switching of drive direction. The ratchet wrench has a wing member 44, which is biased by a spring 58 through a bushing pin 56, wherein an elastic member 66 formed of an elastic material, such as rubber, is incorporated into an axial internal space of the spring 58. Thereby, it is possible to strengthen a pressing force in a direction of holding engagement between a pawl of the wing member 44 and an internal gear 30 of an oscillating member 26. Thereby, in the case where a force is exerted on the wing member 44, in a direction tending to release the engagement between the pawl 46 of the wing member 44 and the internal gear 30 of the oscillating member 26, the spring 58 and of the elastic member 66 exert a reaction force, and the elastic member 66 functions as a stopper to prevent overshooting.

  • Patent number: 6196091
Abstract: A drill bit for applying torque to a fastener and mounting the fastener to a stud. The fastener has a plurality of support walls and a bore that has an axial length disposed within the fastener. The drill bit includes a shaft, which has an engagement end for abutting the stud. A member is attached to the shaft proximate the engagement end and has a plurality of arms each including a front side for biasing against one of the support walls when the drill bit is rotated. Moreover, when mounting of the fastener on the stud is initiated, the fastener is rotated by the front side of each of the plurality of arms of the member biasing against one of the support walls of the fastener, subsequently, the engagement end of the shaft abuts the stud and is prevented from biasing axially while simultaneously the fastener continues to be progressively mounted on the stud.

  • Patent number: 6189415
Abstract: A device for providing proper clearance when driving a nail having a head into a surface. The device includes a handle, a blade, an anvil, and apparatus that rotatably attaches the blade to the handle. The handle is held in a hand of a user. The blade extends rotatably from, and is replaceably attached to, the handle and captures the nail between the head of the nail and the surface when the nail is being driven into the surface. When the nail is driven into the surface, the blade provides the proper clearance. The anvil is disposed on the handle, opposes the blade, and is hit sideways to free the blade from between the head of the nail and the surface after the nail has been driven into the surface.

  • Patent number: 6176156
Abstract: A traction pattern for a striking face of a striking tool has a plurality of indentions in the striking face, the indentions each forming a rectangular interface at the striking face. The indentions are arranged in a rectangular matrix in the striking face, producing thereby a striking surface being the areas at the striking face between the interfaces of the indentions at the striking face. The indentions can be in the form of four-sided truncated pyramids, each indention therefore having a rectangular bottom surface and four sides extending at a common obtuse angle from the bottom surface. Several unique traction surface patterns are taught, being formed by spacing between indentions and special treatment of the traction surface between the intersections of the indentions.
