  • Patent number: 8458282
Abstract: A computing apparatus for reducing the amount of processing in a network computing system which includes a network system device of a receiving node for receiving electronic messages comprising data. The electronic messages are transmitted from a sending node. The network system device determines when more data of a specific electronic message is being transmitted. A memory device stores the electronic message data and communicating with the network system device. A memory subsystem communicates with the memory device. The memory subsystem stores a portion of the electronic message when more data of the specific message will be received, and the buffer combines the portion with later received data and moves the data to the memory device for accessible storage.

  • Patent number: 8458262
Abstract: Methods and systems of filtering spam messages for cellular network subscribers are provided that may include receiving a message from a decoy subscriber number. The method and systems may further be adapted to determine whether the message at the decoy subscriber number may be spam. If the message at the decoy number tends to be spam, the message may be output to a filtering service for further analysis. In the final analysis if a message is determined to be spam, then new rules may be created and distributed to front end spam and/or virus engines to restrict such traffic from reaching subscribers.

  • Patent number: 8456527
Abstract: An object is detected in images of a live event by storing and indexing templates based on representations of the object from previous images. For example, the object may be a vehicle which repeatedly traverses a course. A first set of images of the live event is captured when the object is at different locations in the live event. A representation of the object in each image is obtained, such as by image recognition techniques, and a corresponding template is stored. When the object again traverses the course, for each location, the stored template which is indexed to the location can be retrieved for use in detecting the object in a current image. The object's current location may be obtained from GPS data from the object, for instance, or from camera sensor data, e.g., pan, tilt and zoom, which indicates a direction in which the camera is pointed.

  • Patent number: 8436902
Abstract: A method for image-based weather condition detection, using image processing methods in moving vehicles, is described. The method includes detecting road weather conditions by identifying a group of bright pixels in video images produced by an image-based road characterization, and determining whether the bright pixels are caused by reflections due to one of rainfall, snowfall, a wet surface, or a snowy surface, where a driving assistant system includes a lane-keeping system.

  • Patent number: 8438265
Abstract: A method of offloading, from a host data processing unit (205), the generation of data corruption-detection digests for iSCSI PDUs to be transmitted as TCP segments over respective TCP connections. An iSCSI layer processing software (310) executed by the host data processing unit provides a command descriptor list (320) containing command descriptors adapted to identify portions of at least one iSCSI PDU to be transmitted, and data corruption-detection digest descriptors (CRC DESC(PDUa); CRC DESC(PDUb)), each one associated with a respective PDU data corruption-detection digest. An iSCSI processing offload engine (223) transmits the iSCSI PDU over the respective TCP connection, based on the descriptors in the command descriptor list; during the transmission, the iSCSI PDU data corruption-detection digest are calculated, and the calculated data corruption-detection digest is saved in the corresponding data corruption-detection digest descriptor in the command descriptor list.

  • Patent number: 8433746
Abstract: A method and system for executing an additional action by an ESB server in response to detecting a predefined state of the ESB is described. One method identifies an object (e.g., message or event) at an ESB server of the computing system targeted for a first service deployed at the ESB server. The method further detects a predefined state of the ESB server, and when detected, the method executes an additional action by the ESB server without modifying a set of actions of the first service. Another method detects the predefined state by matching the object against a pointcut of an AOP aspect defined in the ESB server. The method executes the additional action by executing an advice of the aspect to perform the additional action when the object matches the pointcut.

  • Patent number: 8433786
Abstract: Systems and methods provide a selective instrumentation strategy for monitoring the progress of transactions in a distributed computing system. The monitoring of the transactive processing of jobs is considered through a collection of computer operating stages in a distributed system, using limited information. The monitoring is performed by observing log records (or footprints) produced during each stage of processing in the system. The footprints lack unique transaction identifiers resulting in uncertainties in monitoring transaction instances. The processing stages are selective instrumented to reduce monitoring uncertainty under the given constraints such as limited budget for instrumentation cost.

  • Patent number: 8429302
Abstract: The claimed subject matter relates to an architecture that can actively regulate associated gateways in connection with lossless application-level compression. In particular, the architecture can monitor a flow of messages that enter and/or traverse a gateway in order to determine a bandwidth utilization of an associated network due to the messages. The architecture can also monitor the aggregate messages load for the associated network due to all gateways. In particular, the architecture can regulate lossless application-level compression at that gateway or all of the gateways in the set as a function of the bandwidth utilization and/or the aggregate message load. Accordingly, compression features can be activated or deactivated based upon a utilization threshold parameter, and gateways can be regulated uniformly or independently from one another.

  • Patent number: 8407335
Abstract: An appliance is co-located on a network with computing devices. Log messages generated by the computing devices are collected by the appliance, filtered based on the content and stored in transmission priority queues based on the content. The appliance packetizes the log messages based on the transmission priority queue and the available bandwidth and compresses the packet. The appliance encrypts the packet, digitally signs the encrypted packet and sends the packet to a first data center over a public network. The first data center stores the packet in reliable storage and performs processing on the data. A copy of the packet is sent to a second data center that stores the copy and performs processing on the copied data. The appliance deletes the packet from its buffer after it has received acknowledgement that the second data center has received the packet.

  • Patent number: 8396979
Abstract: A communication apparatus such as a digital video camcoder acquires an IP address from a DHCP server on a UPnP network. During the communication apparatus is transmitting an image stream, which is a sensed image, to the DTV, the communication apparatus issues an IP address update request to the DHCP server. In this case, when the DHCP server leaves the UPnP network, the communication apparatus keeps transmitting the stream while holding an already set IP address. Upon completely transmitting the series of the stream, the communication apparatus generates its own IP address using an AutoIP function.

  • Patent number: 8370460
Abstract: Some embodiments provide an optimized multi-hit caching technique that minimizes the performance impact associated with caching of long-tail content while retaining much of the efficiency and minimal overhead associated with first hit caching in determining when to cache content. The optimized multi-hit caching utilizes a modified bloom filter implementation that performs flushing and state rolling to delete indices representing stale content from a bit array used to track hit counts without affecting identification of other content that may be represented with indices overlapping with those representing the stale content. Specifically, a copy of the bit array is stored prior to flushing the bit array so as to avoid losing track of previously requested and cached content when flushing the bit arrays and the flushing is performed to remove the bit indices representing stale content from the bit array and to minimize the possibility of a false positive.
