  • Patent number: 9253146
Abstract: Preventing duplicate sources in a network that uses network address port translation on an established connection. In response to receiving an inbound packet at a destination host, input values are obtained therefrom and used to consult a mapping. If no match is found, a translation is performed, whereby a determination is made as to whether or not a port number is available within a range of port numbers that comply with a security association governing the connection. If so, an available port number is assigned to the connection, thereby avoiding a possibility of a duplicate source. If a port number is not available, the packet is rejected.

  • Patent number: 9240900
Abstract: Conventional routers employ a wired backplane that employs “long reach” serializer/deserializer (SerDes) links, but this type of architecture is complicated, costly, and uses a considerable amount of power. To address some of these issues, a new wireless backplane architecture is provided here. This wireless backplane employs direct millimeter wave links between line cards that replaces the convention, wired switching fabric.

  • Patent number: 9225614
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for application layer optimization in a modern data network. The optimization incorporates variable rate transmission across one or more optical data channels. Data throughput is maximized by enabling quality of service profiles on a per transmission channel basis. According to one aspect, a system is provided in which the application layer is aware of and controls the underlying transmission rate and quality of the transmission. This enables the system to fully utilize the transmission capacity of the channel. The application layer may map different applications to different transmission classes of service. The services can be classified based on data throughput rate, guaranteed error rates, latency and cost, among other criteria. This provides flexibility to the application layer to map some loss tolerant applications to a lower cost (per bit) transmission class.

  • Patent number: 9226210
Abstract: A method and system to help manage latency in setup of fallback communications, such as circuit switched fallback calls for instance, by taking into account the load on various fallback carriers. When a first network is serving a device and engages in a process to facilitate setup of a communication for the device to be served by a second, fallback network, the first network will work with the second network to determine which local carriers of the second network are least loaded, and the first network will then direct the WCD to scan those determined least-loaded carriers in particular. This process may thus help to avoid having the WCD spend time scanning local carriers of the second network that the second network is unlikely to assign in any event due to loading.

  • Patent number: 9219684
Abstract: New communication system with packet's retransmission elements that do not use and do not depend on any routing protocol provides definite mechanisms to deliver packets from sender to receiver. Packet's retransmission elements are no longer in charge for calculating and maintaining routing tables in order to make decision regarding packet forwarding from ingress port to egress port. Each packet besides data contains set of instructions that presents complete path description from sender to receiver and rules of packet's processing on its way depending on various network metrics. The set of instructions is devised to be executed or interpreted by each network element that packet passing through. The outcome of instructions execution provides decision regarding packet forwarding and transformation. In order to provide information for path calculation and rules of packet processing there are centralized services—Network map, Pathfinder, Name registrar and Network policy.

  • Patent number: 9215707
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for prioritizing time-division multiplexed communications resources at a femtocell. A femtocell initially provides time-division-multiplexed wireless service to a plurality of wireless communication devices (WCDs) using a first number of slots per cycle, each WCD in the plurality having at least one assigned slot. During the first time period, the femtocell detects a trigger. Responsive to detecting the trigger, the femtocell, in a second time period, switches to providing service using a second number of slots per cycle, the second number being less than the first number, such that a first WCD in the plurality does not have an assigned slot.

  • Patent number: 9210667
Abstract: A wireless device receives a control command to transmit a random access preamble on a first secondary cell. The wireless device repeatedly transmits the random access preamble until a random access response corresponding to the random access preamble is received or a predetermined number of transmissions is reached. If the predetermined number of transmissions is reached without receiving the random access response, the wireless device stops transmission of the random access preamble and keeps a connection with the base station active.

  • Patent number: 9042398
Abstract: A credit based queue scheduler dynamically adjusts credits depending upon at least a moving average of incoming packet size to alleviate the impact of traffic burstiness and packet size variation, and increase the performance of the scheduler by lowering latency and jitter. For the case when no service differentiation is required, the credit is adjusted by computing a weighted moving average of incoming packets for the entire scheduler. For the case when differentiation is required, the credit for each queue is determined by a product of a sum of credits given to all queues and priority levels of each queue.
