  • Patent number: 4718313
Abstract: A hammer head for a hammer which includes a nail-holding part which allows a nail to be initially driven in a wall by a worker using only one hand. The nail-holding part includes a striking surface which engages the head of a nail and a pair of pinching pieces which engage opposite sides of the shank of the nail therebetween. The pair of pinching pieces permit nails of various diameters to be held therebetween and the pair of pinching pieces are disposed adjacent to the striking wall for tightly holding the nail with the head of the nail in tight engagement with the striking wall. A groove is provided in the hammer head at a location further from the striking wall than the pinching pieces for supporting the shank of the nail. The nail-holding part is disposed within a recess in the hammer head and does not interfere with the normal operation of the hammer head.

  • Patent number: 4716794
Abstract: An opening device for an extension rod drilling equipment, comprising a supporting sleeve (3) rotatably mounted in a frame (1), and gripping jaws (6) displaceably mounted in the sleeve for gripping a drill rod. In order to allow the device to both grip the drill rod and rotate it, the supporting sleeve is connected to a rotating mechanism (14) and provided with cylindrical guideways (4, 5) positioned eccentrically with respect to the axis (A) of the sleeve in such a manner that a rotating movement of the sleeve with respect to the gripping jaws causes a displacement of the gripping jaws towards an aligned rod releasing position and away from the aligned position respectively, depending on the direction of rotation of the supporting sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4716792
Abstract: A simple and economical tire repair tool, providing an open-ended support tube which carries in the free end a plug member axially of the tube for sealing the hole. The plug member is provided on its forward end with a hard-material pointed member for penetration of the casing, and that pointed member has an abutment against which the free end of the support tube presses during use, forcing the pointed end and a plug body connected thereto to penetrate the tire casing, without need of enlarging the hole, and with the tube holding the casing walls away from the plug body. Interengaging lugs of the tube and the pointed end member provide for twisting the pointed member to facilitate passage of the pointed member into the casing, but permit simple axial retraction of the tube to draw it out of the casing, yet the resilience of the casing in the hole region causes the casing walls to firmly embrace the plug member, sealing the hole.

  • Patent number: 4712770
Abstract: A tensioning device has a worm gear mounted in a hollow section enabling the longitudinal displacement of a lift member with respect to a hollow section. The hollow section base and the lift member in each case carry a joint bolt, which cooperates with joint heads fixed to the adjustment means. The worm gear permits a very sensitive and exact setting of the spacing between the two joint bolts, which remains unchanged over a long period. In addition, the tensioning device is particularly suitable for orthopedic purposes, due to its small constructional volume.

  • Patent number: 4706935
Abstract: A machine for extracting an elongate work piece from a medium in which it is imbedded. The machine includes a vertical gripping plate in opposed gripping relating with an eccentrically pivoted gripper. These gripping elements are carried on a rigid frame adapted for attachment to the three point hitch lifting mechanism found on tractors. When the work piece is gripped between the gripping elements, lifting of the frame by means of the lifting mechanism of the tractor, will extract the work piece. Auxiliary lifting force may be provided with optional fluid power operated cylinders. Linkages may optionally be provided to remotely move the pivoted gripper into and out of gripping relation. The linkages may be operated manually or with a hydraulic or other power operated cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4703920
Abstract: A workholder for holding a plurality of substrates, the workholder configured in a flat plate having a top surface and a bottom surface which is parallel to the top surface. The top surface spaced a distance from the bottom surface, such that the distance between the top surface and the bottom surface does not exceed a distance between an upper surface and a lower surface of an individual substrate. A plurality of substrate receiving openings extend through the plate, each opening being dimensioned to receive a respective substrate therein. A biasing spring means adjacent to each opening for biasing a substrate in the opening. The biasing spring means being between the top and bottom surfaces of the workholder and not extending beyond the top and bottom surfaces thereof. The configuration of the workholder allows the substrates to be held in the openings of the workholder, while having their upper and lower surfaces projecting beyond the top and bottom surfaces of the workholder respectively.

  • Patent number: 4697800
Abstract: A clamping device, for use for example for clamping a tool or workpiece in position in a machine tool comprises a clamping anchor to which a clamping force is applied by a hydraulically operated cylinder. The device also includes a screw operated compensating or back-up unit which acts on the piston of the hydraulic cylinder. The compensating unit is driven by the same hydraulic system as the hydraulic cylinder and when the piston has been moved hydraulically to apply the clamping force to the anchor, a screw component of the compensating unit moves into engagement with the piston to lock the piston in position and maintain the clamping force even if the hydraulic pressure on the piston is then released.
