  • Patent number: 8032169
Abstract: A system and method for providing low overhead floor control in a distributed control two-way radio communications network (200) including one or more subscriber stations (201,205, 213, 215, 217) and one or more peer stations (203, 207, 211) interconnected via an Internet connection (209) using no central control. A subscriber station (201) utilizes a floor request during a timed floor request window (FRW) for requesting floor control to a given peer station (203). The system and method provide for consistent floor control decisions throughout the communications network (200) which includes a policy to block additional floor requests from local subscriber stations once an initial floor request has been received. This enables each peer to receive an identical set of floor requests as every other peer within the FRW such that every peer will grant the floor to the same subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7995996
Abstract: A method and system for providing targeted advertisement information to consumers over a wireless communications network. In one embodiment, local advertisers register to advertise on certain wireless communications devices that are in close proximity to the advertiser. As a consumer enters a cell site that is near the location of the advertiser, the wireless network delivers a message to the wireless device that is specified by the local advertiser. An acknowledgement signal is then received by the network, and the local advertiser's account is charged for transmission of the advertisement. In a further embodiment, each of the messages stored in the database is also associated with one or more demographic codes, and users of wireless communications device select from one more demographic codes to describer their advertisement preferences.

  • Patent number: 7991417
Abstract: A method for use in a push to talk type service in which a floor is required before a client terminal may distribute a media item to at least one other terminal participating with the client terminal in a push to talk type session. According to the invention, the floor is managed depending upon information relating to the size of the media item, and may be managed depending upon other criteria as well. Managing the floor may include one or more of granting the floor, maintaining the floor, monitoring the floor, and releasing the floor. The floor may be denied, for example, if the media item is larger than a predetermined size, which size may be indicated as being within a range of sizes. The push to talk type service may be a general conferencing service.

  • Patent number: 7986922
Abstract: Techniques for detecting and suppressing jammers are described. A receiver may perform post-FFT jammer detection and pre-FFT jammer suppression. The receiver may transform an input signal to obtain a frequency-domain signal and may detect for jammers in the input signal based on the frequency-domain signal. The receiver may determine powers of a plurality of carriers based on the frequency-domain signal and may detect for jammers based on peaks in the powers of these carriers. The receiver may filter the input signal (e.g., with a notch filter) to suppress the detected jammers. Alternatively or additionally, the receiver may perform post-FFT jammer detection and post-FFT jammer suppression. The receiver may determine whether jammer is present on each carrier based on data power and channel power for that carrier. The receiver may modify (e.g., zero out or reduce) the frequency-domain signal on carriers with detected jammers.
