  • Patent number: 10448411
Abstract: Described are techniques for determining optimal antennae for use by wireless radios that share communication resources, such as a radio frequency chain. When communication is initiated using a first wireless radio of a communication device having at least two antennae, configuration data for the first wireless radio may indicate a default antenna. When communication is not taking place using the default antenna, an alternate antenna may be used to communicate test data. Signal strength data for communication by each antenna may be used to determine the default antenna indicated by the configuration data. When communication is initiated using a second wireless radio, separate configuration data for the second technology may indicate a default antenna. Separate signal strength data for communications, by the second wireless radio, using each antenna may determine the default antenna indicated by the configuration data.

  • Patent number: 10367739
Abstract: A method and a transmitting node for redirecting of a flow of data packets to a path of alternative paths, and a method and a receiving node for enabling redirection of a flow of data packets to a path of alternative paths, where data packets are marked with a value indicating the importance of the data packets. The method for directing directs one or more flows of data packets for the alternative paths, wherein data packets marked with a higher value are prioritized over data packets marked with a lower value. Based on feedback information, the transmitting node redirects a flow of data packets to a second path of the alternative paths, if the metric of congestion indicates a higher congestion on the first path than on the second path.

  • Patent number: 10355974
Abstract: In embodiments of the invention when a session request is received the value assigned to that session is compared to present congestion costs in the network at the present time. If the value of the session exceeds the cost then the session is accepted; otherwise it is rejected. It is possible to show mathematically that, provided this strategy is used for all session requests, then, when demand exceeds supply for a given resource, the congestion measurement for that resource rises to become equal to its shadow price. Here, in a model of a capacity constrained network, the shadow price of a capacity constraint is the cost to other users of using one unit of capacity. Congestion measurements can therefore be used to provide a “cost” (to other users) of admitting the flow to the network, which can then be compared against the “value” (to the network operator) of admitting the flow during the admission control evaluation. Additionally, this “cost” vs.

  • Patent number: 10257793
Abstract: A method for use in a user terminal in a cellular communications system. According to the method, the user terminal applies a first timing advance value to its transmissions to a controlling node, and the user terminal requests communication with the controlling node in a contention based procedure by transmitting an access request (MSG 1), in response to which the controlling node transmits an initiation message (MSG 2) along with a second timing advance value. According to the method, the user terminal uses the first timing advance value if the user terminal loses the contention based procedure, i.e. if the controlling node subsequently continues the initiated communication with said other user terminal.

  • Patent number: 10257083
Abstract: Techniques whereby a LAN-side border router observes all packets of an application flow from both directions so that the application recognition performed on the LAN-side border router functions properly. A border router may implement flags in a flow cache to indicate whether the border router is the LAN-side border router and/or a WAN-side border router for an application flow. As packets are received at a border router at either the LAN interface or WAN interface, the flags associated with packet's application flows are examined to determine if the border router is the LAN-side border router for the application flow. If so, then application recognition and routing control may be performed. If not, the packet may be redirected to another border router that may be the LAN-side border router or the WAN-side border router for the application flow to insure that border router observes the packet.

  • Patent number: 10212679
Abstract: The propagation channel in a wireless communication system may be characterized as a multipath fading model wherein the multiple delayed and attenuated versions of the transmitted signal are received. In the receiver's processing chain, the impairments introduced by this propagation channel may be equalized using the channel estimates. The channel estimation is mainly performed using the known reference signals by conventional methods. The estimation of delay spread profile may be crucial for high performance channel estimation. The conventional methods may be appropriate for high operating channel bandwidths. In the case of low channel bandwidth, limited number of reference signals may be available which may not be adequate for accurate delay spread estimation. A method and apparatus are disclosed that improve the delay spread estimation for low channel bandwidth scenarios.

  • Patent number: 10178028
Abstract: In a secure network where the network characteristics are not known, a call admission control algorithm and a preemption control algorithm based on a destination node informing the source node of the observed carried traffic are used to regulate the amount of traffic that needs to be preempted by the source. The amount of traffic that needs to be preempted is based on the carried traffic measured at the destination node. The traffic to be preempted is based on the priority of the traffic, where the lowest priority traffic is the first to be preempted until the amount of traffic preempted is sufficient to allow the remaining traffic to pass through the network without congestion.
