Patent number: 4672772Abstract: A balanced door operating mechanism comprising a floor sheave, a door sheave, an arm extending between the wheels, and a cable rotatably coupling the wheels. The floor sheave is fastened substantially adjacent a side jamb of the door frame between the threshold and the door, and is oriented with the axis of rotation thereof parallel to the axis of rotation of the door. The door sheave is fastened to the door coplanar with the floor sheave so that the axis of rotation of the door sheave is inset medially from and oriented parallel to the axis of the floor sheave. The substantially rigid arm is pivotably mounted at a proximal end on the floor sheave, and at a distal end on the door sheave, and carries at least part of the weight of the door. The cable frictionally engages peripheral grooves in the floor sheave and the door sheave, and extends between peripheral points of the sheaves which are closer to one face of the door than to the other. A coil type spring biases the door toward a normally closed position.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1986Date of Patent: June 16, 1987Inventor: Ichiro Nakamura

Patent number: 4671014Abstract: A very secure entry door barricade system is obtained with a specially configured elongated bar which extends generally horizontally across the width of a door. A hasp assembly, which is very firmly anchored to the building structure, includes a pivotally movable hasp adapted to selectively engage a hook portion of the bar. At the hinge edge, the elongated bar is very securely anchored by a conventional hinge pin which passes through a vertical aperture in the bar and back into its hinge assembly. An alternative configuration for double doors employs an elongated bar on each door, the bar pair being generally in horizontal alignment with respective hook portions situated in close proximity to receive a ring over both hook portions. The ring, when in place, thereby serves to closely limit the extent to which either or both doors can be opened.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 1986Date of Patent: June 9, 1987Assignees: Dawn J. Patent number: 4660322Abstract: A revolving door has a plurality of leaves mounted for rotation about a common axis. To permit collapse of the door in an emergency, the leaves are mounted, at each end, by means of mechanisms that permit such collapse. There is provided a mechanism for mounting one end of a door leaf, the mechanism having a support plate for rotation about the central axis. First and second pivot means are mounted on the support plate, and corresponding first and second pivot devices are mounted on the door leaf. The pivot means and devices, e.g. corresponding projections and recesses, are such that, the door leaf can pivot about one pair of pivot device and means, while the other pair of pivot device and means separate from one another. Once rotation has commenced about one pair of pivot device and means, they are such that they cannot then be separated, thus securing the door.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1985Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Inventor: Dennis Lowe

Patent number: 4660428Abstract: A drive train system for rotating an axle in an external system about an axis which is perpendicular to a driven shaft. The driven shaft has a drive screw thereon and is rotatable about a fixed axis. A drive nut is located on the drive screw and is movable along the length thereof as the drive screw is rotated. A two-part, slidably interconnected crank arm has one part fixed to the axle and the other part slidably interconnected with the drive nut. A power drive is operably connected to the driven shaft through a friction drive including a driven member mounted on the shaft by means of a slip fit through a center hole and a friction plate rotating with the shaft through a center opening. An annular-ring surface between the driven member and the friction plate creates an interface which limits the frictional drive force developed thereby.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1986Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventor: Peter Payne
