Abstract: Method and network entities for providing good performance for voice in multiRAB connection for services of a CS+PS call setup (31) without high throughput necessity but providing good throughput for the services needing it. A differentiation of the multiRAB configuration (bearer type, mobility parameters and channel switching timers), based on service detection, is performed either in the RAN either in the CN indicating eventually this detection to the RAN. If the detected service needs high bit rate/throughput (35), the RNC reconfigures the multiRAB configuration (37) so that a bearer type providing high throughput is allocated to said service and the RNC reassigns mobility and channel switching parameters to maximise this throughput and the radio resources. If the service does not require high throughput (34), the RNC configures a bearer type and parameters for mobility and channel switching as specified by the standards to provide good performance (36), low dropped call rate.

  • Patent number: 9231876
Abstract: A method of policing network traffic based on congestion on a flow-based programmable switch, such as an OpenFlow switch is provided. The method polices congestion-causing flows in a network by detecting congestion at a flow-based programmable switch on the network. Once congestion has been detected, the method identifies one or more flows that are causing the congestion at the flow-based programmable switch, and penalizes the flows that were identified as causing congestion. A flow-based programmable switch including a data plane having input ports, output ports, and forwarding rules that map packets received on an input port to an output port based on a packet matching a rule in the forwarding rules is also described.

  • Patent number: 9232531
Abstract: Techniques for prioritizing user equipments (UEs) for switching between wireless systems are disclosed. The wireless systems may be part of a small cell and may include a WLAN system and a cellular system. In one design, a network entity (e.g., the small cell) may identify a plurality of UEs communicating with a first wireless system. The first wireless system may be one of a plurality of wireless systems providing communication coverage for the UEs. The network entity may determine priorities of the UEs for switching from the first wireless system to a second wireless system. The network entity may then select at least one UE among the plurality of UEs to switch from the first wireless system to the second wireless system based on the priorities of the UEs.

  • Patent number: 9231848
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a novel solution that enables traditional network management services to be automated without requiring the standard user oversight often required by conventional networking systems. Embodiments of the present invention are operable to utilize in-band communications used by network devices within an existing Layer 2 network to automatically generate a virtualized Layer 2 management network. By using MAC address learning procedures and/or generating a logical convergence state for an existing physical Layer 2 network, embodiments of the present invention can generate a virtual layer 2 network interface that facilitates automatic network connectivity for new and/or existing network devices. As such, embodiments of the present invention can enable communication between various network layers (e.g., Layer 3/Layer 4 networks) that allows network devices to be bootstrapped to an existing network infrastructure in a manner that requires no configuration.

  • Patent number: 9220103
Abstract: A unified two-stage network entry procedure is provided for OFDM multi-carrier wireless communications systems. During a first stage, a mobile station performs a common network entry procedure using a primary radio frequency carrier and then exchanges multi-carrier capability information with a base station. In one embodiment, the base station transmits a network entry allowance indicator to assist the mobile station in selecting the primary carrier. The network entry allowance indicator comprises information of preference of one or more available carriers. During a second stage, the mobile station enables multi-carrier transmission over multiple frequency channels if both the mobile station and the base station support multi-carrier capability. Before enabling multi-carrier transmission, the mobile station may optionally perform additional ranging by transmitting a ranging request for a secondary carrier.

  • Patent number: 9167522
Abstract: Techniques for detecting discontinuous transmission (DTX) are disclosed. In an example method, given a sequence of bits that is known by a wireless receiver to be included in transmission bursts targeted to the wireless receiver and given a series of received signal samples corresponding to an expected transmission burst for the wireless receiver, the wireless receiver estimates a channel response and a location for the sequence within the series. The wireless receiver generates a plurality of bit estimates from the subset of received signal samples, based on the estimated channel response, compares the bit estimates to bits in the sequence of bits, and determines whether a valid burst for the wireless receiver is present, based on said comparing. The disclosed techniques are particularly suitable for use in detecting DTX in VAMOS scenarios.
