Abstract: In a data transfer system, when transferring data which has been transferred to a storage in a PC, to a mobile terminal connected to the PC, the PC acquires the file format of the data and the file format which can be processed by the mobile terminal and determines whether the conversion of the file format is necessary. When the conversion of the file format is necessary, the PC issues a request for a conversion to a format converter. The format converter acquires data from the PC and transfers the data back to the PC while performing conversion. The PC transfers the converted data to the mobile terminal.

Abstract: A satellite orbit data compressing method includes: determining a compression method of a parameter value on the basis of a variation tendency of the parameter value in an orbit model approximating a satellite orbit; and calculating a compressed parameter value by reducing a bit sequence representing the parameter value using the determined compression method.

Abstract: Apparatus, methods and computer programs enable carrying service insertion architecture data plane packets in IPv4 or IPv6 networks by packaging destination addresses using IPv6 mechanisms. For example, a data processing apparatus is configured for receiving, from a service broker, a service label and an Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) address of a first service node; receiving an IPv4 packet requesting a service associated with the first service node; creating an IPv6 packet comprising a service label in a Flow Label field of the IPv6 packet, the IPv6 address of the first service node in a destination address field of the IPv6 packet, and the IPv4 packet in a payload field of the IPv6 packet; forwarding the IPv6 packet to the first service node. Approaches allow service insertion architecture support for all-IPv6 traffic including tunneled and non-tunneled techniques for environments in which user applications place data in the flow label field.

Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for improving the user experience when accessing web pages containing embedded objects over a network. In one embodiment, information regarding the contents of a locally accessible cache is added to a request directed to a web server. The information is used to control certain aspects of a pre-fetch process that is designed to reduce network latency affects and improve network resource utilization, thereby improving a user's experience. The cache contents information may be provided to an intermediate server via a modification to an existing request-response protocol, with the information being encoded or compressed if desired to reduce data transport requirements. The information is used by the intermediate server to determine whether to request an embedded object referenced in the requested resource or web page, and to determine if a browser having access to the cache will request the object or access the object from the local cache.

Abstract: A device receives compliance content from a user device, determines requirements associated with the compliance content, and matches the requirements with compliance questions provided in a compliance library associated with the device. The device also automatically generates a compliance questionnaire based on the compliance questions matching the requirements, and provides the compliance questionnaire to the user device. The compliance questionnaire includes a minimum set of compliance questions needed to determine compliance.

Abstract: The ideal client-server for a collaborative application in a client-server network environment is dynamically determined. An Ideal Server utility compares the capabilities of the computer system of an entering client with the computer system of the current client-server to determine which system is best equipped to control the execution of the application. Whenever a new client enters/participates in the application session, the Ideal Server utility evaluates the system capabilities of the new client (the candidate client-server) and compares the new client's system capabilities with the system capabilities of the current client-server. If the new client possesses better capabilities than the current client-server, the new client is provided the role of the client-server. A transfer of the application to the candidate client-server is initiated. Once the transfer is completed, the application resumes processing on the new client-server.

Abstract: A method, system, medium and a lightweight computing framework are provided for active network measurements. A communication network having links that connect a collection of client devices that utilize the computing framework to generate probe streams, receive network data associated with one or more network measurements, and to analyze the network data. The probe streams are generated based on a configuration file. The configuration file implements one or more network measurements and is defined in a scripting language. Additionally, the probe streams collect network data, and the computing framework utilizes the network data to determine link properties along one or more communication paths and to generate additional probe streams when specified conditions are satisfied.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and computer-accessible storage media for remotely updating an executing process that receives I/O requests on I/O port(s), stores write data to a write log on local storage, and uploads data from the write log to remote storage. An update for the process is detected and downloaded, and an updated process is instantiated from the update. The current process is directed to perform a shutdown for update during an update window. In response, the current process saves its current configuration, flushes an in-memory portion of the write log to local storage, and releases its I/O port(s). The updated process loads the saved configuration, detects that the port(s) have been released, and starts accepting I/O requests on the ports. During flushing, the current process flushes current data in memory while continuing to append new write data, stops accepting new write requests, and then flushes the new write data.
