  • Patent number: 5949963
Abstract: In a digital full color copying machine, one pixel on a photoconductor is divided into four subdivided small pixels. Functions a-d are assigned to each subdivided small pixel. Functions a-d are linear functions with density data as a parameter. The slope of functions a-d becomes smaller in sequential order. Exposure data of the four subdivided small pixels is calculated according to the density data of a pixel and functions a-d to expose each subdivided small pixel. A peak can be established in the exposure amount distribution to form a deeper latent image. Accordingly, resolution and graininess of the halftone area are improved.

  • Patent number: 5943137
Abstract: A method of operating a fax server apparatus including a computer and a FAX card which provides a unification of a FAX forms creation process and the creation of a template used for interpreting received FAX forms completed at a remote branch location. A FAX form is created using a forms creation module and subsequently both stored into memory as a template and selectively transmitted via a FAX card to FAX machines at remote branch locations. The FAX form has machine readable identification markings comprised of an unique dot pattern which are identified upon reception by the computer to retrieve from memory the corresponding form stored as the template for processing. The FAX form also includes machine readable reference marks recognized by the computer for orientating the received completed FAX form and correcting for distortions induced by electronic transmission of forms such as skewing and warping of images.

  • Patent number: 5940530
Abstract: An apparatus for printing video images is disclosed. First the percentage of backlighting or people in the image is detected. That is, the probability of the presence of backlighting or people is detected. Then, the density gradation table is modified based on the detection result, and the presence of backlighting or the presence of people in the image is evaluated based on optical information, to select the best density gradation table from among plural density gradation tables, or to synthesize the best density gradation table. A luminance table is generated using the optimized density gradation table, and gradation correction of the image is then accomplished using that luminance table.

  • Patent number: 5940189
Abstract: A facsimile apparatus includes a transmission motor (90), and when an original to be transmitted is moved by the transmission motor in a sub-scanning direction, sequential lines in the sub-scanning direction are scanned by a contact image sensor (100) in a main scanning direction, and therefore, image data of a black dot or a white dot is outputted by the contact image sensor. A microcomputer (60) specifies a line in which a black dot outputted from the contact image sensor first exists as a start line, and specifies an area on the basis of the start line and an end line which is determined by a fact that three white lines in which no black dots are detected appear after the start line. Addressing information is recognized on the basis of the image data outputted from the contact image sensor which is scanning the area.

  • Patent number: 5940543
Abstract: When images on the front and rear sides of multiple originals are reduced in size and recorded onto both sides of a single recording sheet in composite form, recording positions of images on the front and rear sides of each original are determined such that reduced images on the front side of the original are recorded on the front side of the recording sheet and reduced images on the rear side of the same original are recorded at corresponding positions on the rear side of the recording sheet. As a result, when the recording sheet is cut into pieces corresponding to respective recorded images, images on the front and rear sides of each cut piece of the recording sheet respectively agree with images on the front and rear sides of each original.

  • Patent number: 5937093
Abstract: The detection of a nearest neighbor is calculated at high speed and with high accuracy. Feature space grouping is performed, with one, or two or more features being assigned to each group. A check is performed to determine whether or not a calculated distance value that is acquired before the limits for a group is reached has exceeded the threshold value THR.sub.-- MIX for each group. The threshold value that is set for THR.sub.-- MIX is the average of the threshold value that is determined based on the cumulative quantity of the features that is acquired and the threshold value that is based on the number of dimensions. When the distance value for each group is greater than the threshold value THR.sub.-- MIX, first phase screening is performed to exclude, from the succeeding distance calculations, the prototype that provides that distance value. Then, for a group for which the first phase screening is performed, the threshold value THR.sub.

  • Patent number: 5930463
Abstract: A technique for embodying self-diagnosis in a facsimile machine including a printer with a recording element for receiving or scanning data and a temperature sensor for sensing a surface temperature of the recording element is performed by sensing an input voltage corresponding to the changed surface temperature of the recording element when a preset number of lines of a document are printed, comparing a reference voltage received when the recording element is not driven with the surface temperature sensed in the sensing step, and providing an error message when the sensed voltage is the same as the reference voltage. Thus, the printing or transmitting is performed only when accurate data is received or scanned, while the printing or transmitting by the successive reception or scanning of white data or black data, being error data, is blocked to prevent unnecessary power dissipation and the waste of recording paper.
