  • Patent number: 3948289
Abstract: It is known to construct fluid dispensing structures which utilize tubes or conduits which expand or contract in cross-section in accordance with the internal pressure of a fluid within such a tube or conduit in combination with one or more flow control members mounted on such a tube or conduit. These devices are constructed so that there is relative motion between such a tube or conduit and such a flow control member as the tube or conduit changes in cross-sectional configuration. Structures of this type may be modified so that they are usable in providing a relatively constant discharge of a fluid regardless of changes in the fluid pressure within such a tube or conduit by utilizing a pressure compensating spring in combination with each flow control member used.

  • Patent number: 3946761
Abstract: A packer apparatus for the internal sealing of pipe leaks having a cylindrical structure and a single sleeve located on the exterior of the cylinder. The single sleeve has a pair of inflatable chambers connected together in spaced relationship to each other and air hoses connect through the cylinder to each of the inflatable chambers for inflating and deflating the chambers remotely with air pressure. Chemical lines are connected through the cylinder and through the sleeve between the inflatable chambers. The cylindrical structure is made of two or more segments and is collapsible for reducing the size of the packer. The single sleeve is made of rubber reinforced with tire chord and is held to the cylinder only by the connections with the chemical and air lines.

  • Patent number: 3946994
Abstract: A system for the continuous production of thixotropic high internal phase ratio emulsions. The system includes supply means providing individual streams of an inverter phase (an emulsifier and external phase), and an immiscible internal phase. These streams are precisely regulated as to a preselected ratio by flow rate controllers which regulate the flow responsively to pressure changes in the supply means. The internal and inverter phases are received at a selected rate and composition within a mixing means which produces the loose comingling of the internal and inverter phases, thereby forming a composition with the desired ratio of the internal phase, emulsifier, and external phase of the desired emulsion. A pumping means moves this composition at the selected rate to an outlet means for passing the resultant emulsion to a subsequent utilization.

  • Patent number: 3945648
Abstract: A resilient corrosion resistant multi-layered sealing ring member has a wrinkled outer peripheral sealing surface and a compressed, inner cylindrical wall portion. The method for forming this ring comprises wrapping a number of layers of a readily deformable plastic tape on a tube and employing a clamping member that is slidable in a telescopic manner on the tube to compress several of the outer layers of the plastic tape to substantially reduce their axial dimension and thereby form a seal between the clamping member and the tube.

  • Patent number: 3942805
Abstract: A sealing ring for sealing between a stationary first member and a second member coaxially rotatable in relation to said first member and having a rotationally symmetric surface zone. The sealing ring is adapted for stationary attachment relative to said first member and elastically deformable at its portion located closest to said second member. The sealing ring further includes two annular surface portions provided in spaced relationship to each other along said portion, said surface portions during absence of external actuation sealingly abutting the rotationally symmetric surface zone on said second member and having between themselves an intermediate annular groove, into which open a plurality of channels.

  • Patent number: 3942806
Abstract: A Sealing Ring Structure useful for pistons and piston rods has a sealing section and a stressing section for pressing a contact surface of the sealing section into engagement with a moving surface to be sealed. The sealing and stressing sections may be separate rings or may be layers of different material in an integral multilayer laminate. The contact surface of the sealing section is of small axial length compared with the overall length of the structure and is located between a recess in the sealing section on the high pressure side of the structure and an inclined surface of the sealing section which defines a wedge-like gap between the structure and the moving surface to be sealed which gap diverges towards the low pressure end of the structure.

  • Patent number: 3942807
Abstract: A sealing arrangement within the area of the joint surfaces between cylinder head, inserted cylinder liner with cylinder liner flange and cylinder crankcase of a water-cooled internal combustion engine in which a recessed fit is provided at the cylinder head for the accommodation of the cylinder liner flange; a flat seal is thereby arranged on the joint surface between the cylinder-crankcase and the cylinder head and the flange of the cylinder liner as well as the cylinder head rest on the flat seal; the transmission of the contact pressure onto the cylinder liner flange thereby takes place by direct contact with the cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 3936059
Abstract: A sealing boundary gasket for compression between flanged portions of two mating metal members each of which has two longitudinal flat side portions that lie in different planes from each other and end portions that join the side portions. A one-piece integrally molded elastomeric gasket is provided having two lengthwise strip portions that are generally planar and two end strip portions. Each bolt opening is encircled by a flexible gasket portion that extends inwardly from the longitudinal portions and is readily flexed to a different plane therefrom. Each opening is provided with a circular rib which, as seen in cross section, is wedge-shaped; for example, its thinnest portion may face the outside of the gasket and its thickest portion may face directly to the inside of the gasket. Preferably, one side of one surface of the gasket is flat and the other one is ribbed.

  • Patent number: 3930656
Abstract: A sealed joint between two members. The joint utilizes a gasket that includes a rigid plate having a generally U shaped corrugation therein that forms a recess in one face of the plate and a raised rib on the other face. The face having the raised rib has a layer of elastomeric material thereon on opposite sides of the rib for sealing engagement with one of the members. Elastomeric material is also contained within the recess for sealing engagement with the other member. One of the members may have a recess for receiving the gasket and the depth of the recess may be greater than the axial thickness of the rigid plate at the corrugation whereby the members do not impose axial compression on the corrugation when the joint is tight. In another form of the invention, the rigid plate may have another corrugation spaced from the first corrugation and of slightly greater axial length.
