  • Patent number: 4025240
Abstract: A geothermal energy transfer and utilization system makes use of thermal energy stored in hot solute-bearing well water to generate super-heated steam from an injected flow of clean water; the super-heated steam is then used for operating a turbine-driven pump at the well bottom for pumping the hot solute-bearing water at high pressure and in liquid state to the earth's surface, where it is used by transfer of its heat to a closed-loop boiler-turbine-alternator combination for the generation of electrical or other power. Residual concentrated solute-bearing water is pumped back into the earth. The clean cooled water is regenerated at the surface-located system and is returned to the deep well pumping system also for lubrication of a novel bearing arrangement supporting the turbine-driven pump system.

  • Patent number: 4025248
Abstract: The rotor of the expander has axially extending slots containing vanes which reciprocate generally radially as the rotor turns since the rotor is eccentrically mounted in a casing. Vapor distribution ports extend from the base of each slot to the surface of the rotor forward of the slot. Axial passages for admitting pressurized, high temperature vapor from the ends of the rotor intersect with the vapor distribution ports at a point between the ends of the ports.Annular bearing elements are contained in the endwalls and lubricating oil is provided directly to them.

  • Patent number: 4025245
Abstract: Structure providing improved cooling of the rotor of a rotary engine. The cooling structure includes flow passages for passing a portion of the bearing lubricant through the apices of the rotor. Radially extending portions of the flow passages may be provided in the end walls of the rotor. Delivery of the bearing lubricant to the rotor flow passages may be at one end of the bearing or at a mid-portion of the bearing as desired. The flow passages may include passages in the apices of the rotor extending between the end walls thereof and communicating at their opposite ends with radial passages in the end walls. In one form, the passages in the apices communicate at one end with a radial passage to a rotor cavity having an axial passage therefrom through the end wall at that end.

  • Patent number: 4023916
Abstract: An improved assembly of the working cylinder and cylinder head in a casing of a diesel-type fuel injection pump is described. A lower portion of the cylinder head, which houses a discharge valve, is inserted into the upper portion of the cylinder. A piston reciprocable within the lower portion of the cylinder carries a flange on its lower end for supporting a spring, whose upper end bears, via an intermediate member, on the cylinder to urge the cylinder-cylinder head sub-assembly upward in the casing until a flange disposed intermediate the ends of the cylinder head abuts an upper, centrally apertured end plate of the casing. In the assembled position, an upper threaded end of the cylinder head extends outwardly from the aperture in the end plate to receive a conventional pressure fitting. Suitable facilities are provided for inhibiting rotation of the cylinder-cylinder head sub-assembly in the casing.

  • Patent number: 4021160
Abstract: An engine, pump or motor is disclosed of a type generally similar to the "Wankel" engine, except that the present invention is characterized by purely orbital motion of the piston to produce rotation of the output shaft. Preferably the shaft has two eccentric sections in radial alignment, the first eccentric axis being displaced from the main axis, one half the displacement of the second eccentric axis from the main axis. A pinion is rotatably mounted about the first eccentric axis. A fixed internal ring gear is fixed against rotation and mounted about the main axis so as to engage the pinion at a point in radial alignment with the two eccentric axes. An orbital ring gear is preferably identical to the fixed ring gear and rotatably mounted about the second eccentric axis so as to engage the pinion at a point on the pinion diametrically opposite the point of engagement of the pinion and the fixed ring gear. The piston is also rotatably mounted about the second eccentric axis and fixed to the orbital ring gear.

  • Patent number: 4018554
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for the combustion of high viscosity low grade liquid fuel (e.g., residual oil), in which the fuel is directed through an ejector into an impact chamber in which it impinges upon a baffle with the rebounding fuel particles being further pulverized by jets of air introduced into this chamber with an inclination to the axis of the burner. The resulting fuel-air mixture passes around the impingement baffle with a laminar flow of air passing axially along the wall of this chamber and preventing precipitation of fuel droplets thereon. Upon emergence from the chamber the fuel-air mixture encounters a flow of air passing along the exterior of the impact chamber and intercepted by a plurality of inwardly extending steps which furtherpromote pulverization and mixing.

  • Patent number: 4018549
Abstract: A screw pump includes a screw unit having a drive screw and two impeller screws arranged symmetrically around the drive screw. The screws are enclosed in a housing having mutually intersecting passages for accommodating the screws, and the unit is constructed so that the screws seal against each other and against the housing to form chambers in which liquid is carried from the suction side to the pressure side during rotation of the screws. On the pressure side in the passage accommodating one of the impeller screws there is formed a recess which extends from the pressure side and the length of which is such that each chamber is opened at separate time intervals with respect to the two impeller screws instead of simultaneously.
