Abstract: A pontic having a core constructed from a ceramic material embedded in a metal mass at least a portion of which is itself covered by a layer of porcelain. One or more pins are initially inserted into the core for facilitating placement of the core subsequent to waxing of same into a pattern in the cavity of a mold while the pattern is invested and the metal mass subsequently cast within the investment. The porcelain covering layer can be added to the casting in a conventional manner once the casting has been removed from the mold and cleaned in an appropriate manner.

Abstract: An orthodontic process is provided by which a pulsating force is applied to the tooth to be moved, rather than a continuous force as in the case with the prior art methods. The invention is predicted on the concept that when pulsating forces are applied to the tooth, there is little or no hyalinization and consequently more cellular activity, giving rise to more oesteoclastic activity for bone resorption and more oesteoblastic activity for bone opposition. Moreover, the pulsational effect on the tooth on the adjacent periodontal membrane and bone tends to loosen their fibrous structure, and helps the tooth to find a path of least resistance through the bone.

Abstract: A farrowing house constructed to provide an insulated, weather-tight structure and arranged interiorly with laterally spaced protections for the pigs without stressing the sow in an enclosure, and in which the pig protection is arranged in raised position so that, while the sow may turn around within the house she will be forced into a lying down position facing toward or away from the entrance. The farrowing house is provided with reversible pig retainer gate "or fence" which will permit the sow to enter and leave the house while keeping the pigs in the house, and all of the internal structure is carried by the house so the house may be bodily tilted up from a base or floor for cleaning.

Abstract: An electric circuit, including a power source and a resistive heating element, is provided within the body of a doll. The circuit is completed by the insertion of a thermometer into an aperture provided in the body of the doll, and the heat generated by the resistive heating element is registered on the thermometer, thereby creating the effect of "taking the doll's temperature.

Abstract: Dental impression trays, full, quadrant and anterior, shaped to closely conform to either the maxillary or mandibular ridges for either dentulous or edentulous cases have sections which anatomically approximate surrounding tissue areas with peripheral border relief for muscle attachments and contiguous tissue areas. The trays are formed of an acrylic having a glass transition temperature slightly above body temperature so that they may be heated above their softening temperature exteriorly of the oral cavity, positioned over the oral area of which an impression is to be made, and then manually molded to approximate intimate conformity to the desired oral structures before they harden. A pleat formed in the central vault of a maxillary tray accommodates transverse adjustment. When the tray cools and hardens it is removed, allowing a custom final impression to be thus formed in a single procedure.

Abstract: The sign post comprises a supporting tube and one or more sign box structures which may or may not be illuminated for providing information to the public, in particular in a town zone. In this sign post, the box structure comprises at least two half-shells which are detachably assembled and the assembly faces of the two half-shells have complementary recesses for the passage of the supporting tube.This type of sign post is particularly applicable in road sign systems.

Abstract: Safety-release tension-applying mechanism for use between an orthodontic facebow and a headstrap and the like therefor. The mechanism includes a pair of releaseably interengageable portions which, while engaged, are smoothly elastically shiftable relative to one another throughout a preselected tension range. These portions automatically release on the tension transmitted through the mechanism exceeding a predetermined maximum tension level.

Abstract: A coin bank comprises a vehicle movable horizontally along an appreciable portion of the length of a support base, the vehicle having a coin-receiving slot in the top thereof. The vehicle interior has a pivotably mounted coin-receiving member which receives a coin, preferably vertically oriented, inserted through this slot. When this vehicle is moved to one extreme end of the path of travel of the vehicle, the coin-receiving member in the vehicle engages a cam surface which pivots the same at right angles to the direction of movement of the vehicle, to throw the coin into a preferably vertical slot in a vertical wall behind the vehicle. Preferably, the vertical coin slot-containing portion of the vertical wall is depicted as a teller's station in a bank. A roof-forming wall overlies the support base at the bank teller's station so that a coin cannot be placed in the top of the vehicle thereat. The coin slot in the vehicle is uncovered when it is at the opposite end of the support base.

Abstract: A contra-angle tool holder head notably for dental drills and cutters, for rotatably driving in opposite directions two coaxial dental tools such as drills or cutters comprises a first holding member adapted to drive the first tool and consisting of a claw supporting a first bevel pinion and a second holding member for rotatably driving the second tool in the opposite direction, this second holding member consisting of a second hollow bevel pinion, both holding members being driven simultaneously from a third bevel pinion carried by a shaft driven in turn from the motor and disposed between the first and second bevel pinions, the axis of the drive being disposed at right angles to the common axis of the first and second bevel pinions and of their holding members.

Abstract: Dental suction apparatus is a modular construction, made up of a plurality of modules joined fluid-tight side-by side. A main suction duct extends through all of the modules. At least two of the modules have connection for suction hoses each having a suction nozzle, holders being provided on the modules for holding the suction nozzles when not in use. At least one module has a filter chamber connected between a suction tube and the main suction duct. A removable filter unit in the filter chamber has a basket-shaped filter on a stem by means of which the filter can be removed through on opening closed by a hinged cover. A cap on the stem provides a seal for the filter chamber. Flow of air from the suction tube of each suction tube module to the main suction duct is controlled by a valve in the form of a bellows provided with a telescopic guide and with a control valve for controlling the expansion and contraction of the bellows by differential pressure.

Abstract: A toy vehicle having a set of motor-driven drive wheels for moving it forwardly and a motor-driven steerable wheel assembly for effecting changes in the direction of movement of the vehicle. The vehicle has a radio receiver coupled to the drive motor of the steerable wheel assembly for energizing the drive-motor when signals are received by the receiver from a transmitter remote from the vehicle itself. In one embodiment, the steerable wheel assembly includes a single wheel rotatable about a vertical axis in one direction through an angle of 360.degree.. In another embodiment, the steerable wheel assembly includes a pair of spaced wheels interconnected by a linkage shiftable back and forth in response to the rotation of a coupling member which rotates in one direction in a 360.degree. arc. The transmitter has input means including a microphone and a Schmitt trigger unit or a one-shot multivibrator. The drive motor for the steerable wheel assembly can include a stepping motor.

Abstract: A dental appliance for supporting marking paper within a patient's mouth and for directing a supply of air toward the marking paper, including first means for holding marking paper for insertion into a patient's mouth between opposing tooth surfaces, the first means including jaw members for holding the marking paper and additionally including means for opening the jaw members for releasing the marking paper, and second means operatively coupled to the jaw members for receiving and directing a supply of air toward the marking paper for maintaining the marking paper and the opposing tooth surfaces dry.

Abstract: An improved adjustable attachment for a labial arch retainer. The retainer is of the type having a palatal section configured to conform to the roof of the mouth of a patient, a pair of extension wires extending anterially from the palatal section, an attachment hook provided at the terminal end of each extension wire, and a resilient synthetic band adapted to exert pressure against the teeth of the patient. The adjustable attachment is connected between the resilient band and the attachment hook in a manner which permits the length of the resilient band to be varied thereby permitting adjustment of the pressure exerted against the teeth of the patient.

Abstract: A dental handpiece having a drive arrangement which provides for different speeds to be imparted to a dental tool. The drive arrangement comprises a planetary gear arrangement and a transmission member adapted for intercoupling to provide the different speeds at an output drive shaft for the dental tool. Interengagement means comprising axial slots are provided on the planetary gear arrangement, and a counter-engagement means including balls having segments which protrude from the transmission are provided to engage the interengagement axial slots to transmit the different speeds from a drive motor to the dental tool.

Abstract: A toy including a powered running toy member and a track along which the toy member runs, the toy member being made to run by rotation of the driving wheels of the toy member. The running toy member is provided with a switching arm which is attached to the lower side thereof and is adapted to trigger an operation for changing the running direction, and a mechanism for effecting the change of running direction when actuated by the swinging arm. On at least one end of the track, a mechanism is provided for causing swinging movement of the switching arm to automatically change the running direction of the toy member as the toy member reaches that end of the track. The running toy member has the form of an animal such as, for example, a bird, and incorporates various mechanisms for effecting various actions simulating those of the actual animal, e.g., turning of the head, opening of a beak, etc., by making use of power provided by the driving wheels.
