  • Patent number: 5628114
Abstract: An improved method of hollow metal screen frame production allows screen frames to be produced far more quickly than has heretofore been possible. Each of the cutting dies in the production line is provided with an accelerator that moves the prenotching dies at the speed of the flat sheet metal strip used to form the screen frames. As a consequence, the sheet metal strip can be fed continuously without stopping for punching of corner openings. Also, the configuration of the corners are improved by die cutting locking tabs and corresponding locking tab openings in adjacent members. Once the screen frame has been longitudinally bent at its corners to form the jamb, head, and sill members, the locking tabs of one member project through locking tab openings defined in an adjacent member. The locking tabs are simultaneously bent over using forming dies arranged in pairs with the forming dies within each pair acting in opposition to each other.

  • Patent number: 5623761
Abstract: A bearing removing device includes an elongated tubular member having an end receivable within an inner hole of a bearing is removed. A plurality of holes having a tapering configuration is spaced along a circumference of the end of the tubular member. The tubular member has a central through hole to receive therein a shaft member in such a manner to be movable between a first position and a second position. The end of the shaft member has one or more raised portions to be in contact engagement with the spherical members for driving the latter partially out of the holes. A support member is placed around the bearing to be removed. A nut member threadingly engaging a threaded section of the tubular member to abut against the support member is tightened against the support member such that the tubular member is moved relative to the support member.

  • Patent number: 5611143
Abstract: A process for forming a chilled iron roll for a calender stack. An unfinished roll having a core volume forming the roll radial periphery is provided. An outer radial region of the core volume which has a first microstructure is remelted by passage of electrical current therethrough by means of a pair of electrodes. This region rapidly cools and solidifies, thereby transforming into a second and oriented microstructure which has a higher hardness than the hardness of the first microstructure. The outer radial region of the core volume is subsequently ground smooth to provide a smooth paper web contacting surface for calendering operations.

  • Patent number: 5608971
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and a procedure for mounting a bearing wheel journal box (6) in a supporting structure. The supporting structure consists of a supporter side plate (4) having a seating (21) for the journal box (6). The seating has an opening delimited by corners (23,25). On the periphery of the journal box (6) there is an area (12) of reduced thickness, in the region of which the outer measure (S) of the journal box is smaller than the distance (W) between the corners (23,25) of the seating (21), while at other points the outer measure (D) of the journal box is larger than said distance (W). The journal box (6) is inserted into the seating (21) by holding the reduced-thickness portion (12) against the edge (23) of the opening and then turned into a desired position in the seating (21).

  • Patent number: 5588210
Abstract: A simplified method of manufacturing and assembling a unitized seal uses only three basic components, and no steps involving direct molding of elastomer to casings, or gluing or otherwise securing elastomer to the casings. Two simple, inner and outer casings have axially opposed, radially overlapping annular webs, and radially opposed, oppositely axially extending seal walls. An integral seal unit has coplanar, inner and outer disks joined at a frangible central seam. Each disk has a pair of converging seal lips disposed symmetrically to either sid of a respective seal wall. When the unit is squeezed axially between the casings during assembly, the seal walls enter between the seal lips, bottom out on the disks, break the seam, and embed the disks automatically into the casings, with no other assembly steps needed.

  • Patent number: 5586377
Abstract: A system for covering a cushion member with a sack-like trim cover assembly, which includes a securing mechanism with support element and a covering guide mechanism. The sack-liked trim cover assembly is turned inside out and secured on the securing mechanism, with the cushion member secured thereon in an opposedly faced relation with such turnedover trim cover assembly. Both cushion member and trim cover assembly are located precisely by the support element at a given position on the securing mechanism. The securing mechanism and covering guide mechanism are operated in a direction opposite to each other, thereby displacing the cushion member to an opened side of the trim cover assembly, while the trim cover assembly is being turned over again by the covering guide mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5575065
Abstract: A tube traveler and slitter for extracting a tube from a heat exchanger tubesheet and slitting the tube longitudinally into two segments includes two spaced apart deforming rolls having a nip between the peripheries defining a passageway. The periphery of each roll is serrated and has a cylindrical central portion of a larger diameter than the remainder of the periphery, and a cylindrical portion spaced from the central portion at each end of the roller, a truncated conical surface being between the cylindrical portions. The rollers extract and deform the tube into a configuration having a flattened central portion and a bulbous configuration at each edge. A rotary slitter blade is positioned for engaging and slitting each edge longitudinally. The axis of rotation of the slitter blades is downstream from the axes of rotation of the rolls.

  • Patent number: 5570496
Abstract: The present invention teaches a simple and convenient hose end expansion device which slides within the hose end and is then quickly expanded by means of mechanical or hydraulic pressure, thereby stretching the hose end to a larger diameter. The device is then quickly collapsed and removed from the hose end, and a barbed coupling is inserted within the hose before it has sufficient time to return to its original diameter. As the hose returns to its original diameter, the hose coupling becomes secured within the hose end. External hose clamps may be added for increased security and safety.
