Abstract: Methods and systems for providing help prompts to a user of an automated dialog system are presented. In some embodiments, a computing device may receive a help request from the user of an automated dialog system. The help request may comprise a user request for information about one or more capabilities of the automated dialog system. The computing device may identify information expected to be input by the user to request that the automated dialog system perform its one or more capabilities. A natural language help prompt may be generated to provide guidance to the user to provide the identified information expected to be input.

  • Patent number: 9661173
Abstract: An image forming apparatus comprises: a receiver which receives facsimile or print data file in a page description language, from an information processing apparatus; a spooler which stores the facsimile or print data file received therefrom, on the spooler itself; a converter which converts the facsimile or print data file stored on the spooler, to an image data format; a job generator which generates a job based on the obtained image data file; a facsimile transmitter; a printer; and a job controller which instructs the facsimile transmitter or the printer to perform facsimile transmission or printing according to the generated job, respectively. And the converter selects the facsimile or print data file among those stored on the spooler, based on the state of the printer and the state of the facsimile transmitter, before converting the facsimile or print data file to an image data format.

  • Patent number: 9645995
Abstract: A method for language prediction of a social network post includes generating a social network graph which includes nodes connected by edges. Some of the nodes are user nodes representing users of a social network and some of the nodes are social network post nodes representing social network posts. At least some of the users are authors of social network posts represented by respective social network post nodes. Edges of the graph are associated with respective weights. At least one of the social network post nodes is unlabeled. Language labels are predicted for the at least one unlabeled social network post node which includes propagating language labels through the graph. A language of the social network post is predicted based on the predicted language labels for the social network post node representing that social network post and optionally also based on content-based features.

  • Patent number: 9643433
Abstract: Maintenance requirements are reduced by using only a subset of the functions of a media processing device having plural function units for processing processed media. When a control unit of the media processing device receives a command from a host computer to disable a function of an inkjet printer unit disposed to a conveyance path for the processed media or to disable a function of a contact image sensor unit disposed to the conveyance path, a function-disabled mode is entered that disables the specified function. While in the function-disabled mode, detected operating errors related to the disabled function are not reported to the host computer.

  • Patent number: 9639787
Abstract: This is directed to defining the orientation in which a document is printed from the orientation of the device on which the document is displayed. In particular, some electronic devices can have limited user interfaces that do not provide for a simple or elegant interface for defining print settings. To overcome limitations in a displayed user interface, the orientation of an electronic device can be used to define the print orientation of a displayed document. In particular, a motion-sensing component of an electronic device can determine whether the electronic device display is in a portrait or landscape orientation, and define the page orientation of the displayed document to match the determined device orientation. The electronic device can then transmit the document, in the defined page orientation, to a printer system for printing in the desired page orientation.

  • Patent number: 9639309
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for image conversion are provided. A computing device can receive image data having line(s) of pixels encoded using a first format. The first format can specify a repeat count for a corresponding line of pixels. The computing device can convert the image data from the first format to a second format. The conversion can include: for a designated input line, determining whether the repeat count for the designated input line is greater than one; and after determining that the repeat count is greater than one: generating a designated output line encoded in the second run-length encoded format that corresponds to the designated input line, and duplicating the designated output line a number of times based on the repeat count. The computing device can provide an output comprising the image data encoded in the second format.

  • Patent number: 9632737
Abstract: In the case where display contents are converted according to a set value in a pixel data process, even in the case where there is a limitation in the number of instructions or the number of instructions suitable to be handled for one pixel data process is exceeded, setting contents are reflected on displayed pixel data. Conversion processing to be executed is divided into a plurality of pixel data processes so that the number of instructions falls within an appropriate range. The display controls are overlappingly arranged in the number same as the divided pixel data processes in an area to be processed, and by assigning the divided pixel data processes in a processing executing order to the display controls from the display control in the upper layer, the plurality of pixel data processes is reflected on display.

  • Patent number: 9607624
Abstract: A system for encoding and applying Dynamic Range Control/Compression (DRC) gain values to a piece of sound program content is described. In particular, a set of DRC gain values representing a DRC gain curve for the piece of content may be divided into frames corresponding to frames of the piece of content. A set of fields may be included with an audio signal representing the piece of content. The additional fields may represent the DRC gain values using linear or spline interpolation. The additional fields may include 1) an initial gain value for each DRC frame, 2) a set of slope values at particular points in the DRC curve, 3) a set of time delta values for each consecutive pair of slope values, and/or 4) one or more gain delta values representing changes of DRC gain values in the DRC gain curve between points of the slope values.

  • Patent number: 9595264
Abstract: To detect events in an audio stream, frames of an audio signal (e.g., frames generated by a codec for a voice call or music stream) are received. Based on information in the frames, an index is used to look up an entry in a table associated with the codec. Each entry in the table indicates a likelihood that a frame matches a sound model element. The likelihood is used in the search for a sound bite, word, and/or phrase in the audio signal. The process of dynamic programming is used to find the combined likelihood for a match of the word, phrase, and/or sound bite to a region of the audio stream. Upon detection of the word, phrase, and/or sound bite in the audio stream, an event is generated, such as, notifying a person or logging the event in a database.

  • Patent number: 9595037
Abstract: Systems, methods and media for managing digital rights and pre-verification of structural integrity in three-dimensional (3D) printing are provided. In one example, a system comprises at least one module, executing on one or more computer processors, to receive a request from a user to print a 3D object by a 3D printer or printing service and receive a conditional authorization from an owner of digital rights in the 3D object to print the 3D object.
