    Abstract: A process quantifies a concentration of a targeted molecule in a liquid sample by pulsing signal and reference beams from their own sources, then spatially combining the pulsed beams into a single radiation beam which passes into the liquid sample and then detecting pulsed output beams after the single radiation beam passes out of the liquid sample. The pulsed outputs of the signal and reference beams are processed to obtain a value over a preselected period of time and, if an interference beam is used, it is processed with the reference beam to obtain a calibration curve adjustment representative of optical interference represented by at least one interfering molecule concentration which is used to calculate the concentration level of the targeted particle in the liquid sample. Two detectors, which may have an optical co-axial configuration, can be used for detection of pulsed beams.

    Abstract: A pulsed beam of NIR excitation light is projected into a sample at an oblique angle and scanned by a scanning element through a volume in the sample. 2-photon excitation excites fluorescence within the sample. The fluorescence is imaged onto an intermediate image plane that remains stationary regardless of the orientation of the scanning element. The image is captured by a linear array of light detecting elements or a linear portion of a rectangular array. At any given position of the scanning element, the linear array (or portion) images all depths simultaneously. A plurality of images are captured for each of a plurality of different orientations of the scanning element. The orientation of the scanning element is controlled to move in a two dimensional pattern, which causes the beam of excitation light to sweep out a three dimensional volume within the sample.

The inspection unit inspects an irradiated article using detection data obtained by detecting X-rays. The setting unit sets a setting value used in inspection of the article by the inspection unit. The storage unit stores a detection value based on the detection data. The assessment unit assesses, on the basis of the detection value stored in the storage unit, whether or not the setting value set by the setting unit is suitable. When the assessment unit has assessed that the setting value is not suitable, the notification unit issues a notification to indicate that the setting value is not suitable.
