  • Patent number: 4788023
Abstract: A process and apparatus for producing a dry-pressed molding from a particulate or granular molding material such as a ceramic molding composition in which the composition is initially drawn into a loading cavity by applying a vacuum thereto. The loading cavity is formed by a first mold half and a shooting head having a molding surface the shape of which determines the shape of a premolding which is formed upon entry of the composition into the loading cavity and sufficiently compressed to retain its shape after the shooting head has been removed to allow a second mold half to be positioned over the first mold half.

  • Patent number: 4784813
Abstract: A process for producing a filter with multiple folds from an aqueous fiber mixture that is applied to a porous form, in which a paper-like filter mat is produced on the form under the action of pressure, and it is carried out without mechanical deformation of the rough casting. This is achieved pursuant to the invention by the fact that the aqueous fiber mixture is deposited on the porous form having the contour of the filter, from loading chambers separate from one another, and the filter is built up of adjacent fold sections in layers on the form by separate introduction of the fiber mixture to the fold sections connected to one another.

  • Patent number: 4784816
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for continuous manufacture of materials, specially material slabs, from mixtures of binders, reinforcing agents, and possibly additives, the mixtures being cured by hydrate formation and being of a pourable or spreadable consistency. The special properties and usability of the materials are achieved by a permanent and irreversible compression of the initially-formed structure, whereby an extruded slab is formed from the mixture, then compressed and calibrated. The extruded slab is first compressed in a compression phase at a pressure which is sufficiently high that the slab's thickness after compression is less than the specified value of the finished extruded slab, and its density specified final density, the resulting values of density and degree of compression being sufficiently high that the compressed extruded slab is calibratable immediately thereafter in a calibration phase without the active application of pressure.

  • Patent number: 4783231
Abstract: A fibrous web comprising fibers which have been differentially cooled to provide a crimped fiber conformation thereto and then thermally relaxed to a sufficient degree to at least partially decrimp the fibers and increase the loft and decrease the density of the web. Also disclosed is a process for forming a web of such type, comprising the steps of forming a web of fibers, bonding the fibers to form a bonded web, differentially cooling the fibers to provide a crimped fiber conformation thereto, and thermally relaxing the fibers to a sufficient degree to at least partially decrimp the fibers and increase the loft and decrease the density of the web, wherein the differential cooling step preferably is carried out prior to bonding of the fibers to form the bonded web and the thermal relaxing step is carried out after bonding of the fibers to form such web.

  • Patent number: 4774037
Abstract: A method is provided for producing commercially large quantities of high melting temperature solid or hollow spherical particles of a predetermined chemical composition and having a uniform and controlled size distribution. An end (18, 50, 90) of a solid or hollow rod (20, 48, 88) of the material is rendered molten by a laser beam (14, 44, 82). Because of this, there is no possibility of the molten rod material becoming contaminated with extraneous material. In various aspects of the invention, an electric field is applied to the molten rod end (18, 90), and/or the molten rod end (50, 90) is vibrated. In a further aspect of the invention, a high-frequency component is added to the electric field applied to the molten end of the rod (90).

  • Patent number: 4764322
Abstract: A process for producing a hollow plastics article, which comprises introducing a polymerizable composition in the hot state into a sealed hot mould, immediately setting the mould in motion by imparting to it a second movement of rotation about a second axis and a third movement of oscillation about a third axis which is perpendicular to the second, so that the composition is applied to the inner walls of the mould, and polymerizing it herein to form a hollow article. The improvement comprises setting the mould in motion by further imparting to it, simultaneously to the second and third movement, a first horizontal movement which has, in a horizontal plane, two components in two directions perpendicular to each other.

  • Patent number: 4761258
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved apparatus for forming a fibrous web, and includes a fibrous supply mechanism for providing fibers of web material. The fibers are deposited onto a foraminous web forming layer which may optionally have a pocket recess formed therein. A foraminous spacing mechanism supports the web forming layer while allowing a substantially unrestricted gas flow from a region immediately adjacent to and downstream from the web forming layer. A gas flow regulating layer has a selected pattern of apertures therethrough, and is fixedly positioned in adjacent facing relation with the foraminous spacing means. The regulating layer provides a selected pattern of gas flow through the web forming layer. The regulating layer, the foraminous spacing mechanism and the gas flow regulating layer are constructed to form an installable and replaceable assembly, and a flow forcing mechanism provides a flow of gas through the web forming layer.

  • Patent number: 4755338
Abstract: Method and slide-casting machine for the casting of hollow precast units of concrete by means of slide-casting. Concrete mix is extruded onto a base by using one or several shaping members that form a cavity and the mix is compacted by moving the shaping members. The outer face of the shaping members is provided with a projection or projections, or a projection or projections are formed at the outer face of the shaping members from time to time. The locations of the projections are changed to the longitudinal axis of the shaping members. Thereby the shaping members produce forces compressing the mix in the surrounding mix, i.e. forces that compact the concrete. It is possible to use shaping members in which the shape of the mantle portion can be changed so that the distances of the different points at the outer face of the shaping member from the longitudinal axis of the shaping member vary.
