  • Patent number: 6575440
Abstract: A method for mounting a bushing into a metal member which comprises providing a metal member forming a bushing receiving opening in the metal member, the opening defined by an annular edge portion surrounding the opening. A bushing is then forced through the opening in a bushing driving direction such that the bushing engages the annular edge portion and deforms the annular edge portion in the bushing driving direction to form an annular flange portion on the metal member which projects in the driving direction and engages an exterior surface of the bushing in an interference fit relation so as to securely retain the bushing within the opening.

  • Patent number: 6572088
Abstract: This invention provides, in a vibration isolating bushing comprising an inner and an outer cylinders cencentrically spaced apart and a rubber elastomer interconnecting both cylinders by vulcanization forming, such that it is possible to ensure sufficiently a forcing allowance of the outer cylinder when press fitted to a support member, to improve the workability upon assembling, and to avoid the outer cylinder from releasing and dropping off from the inner cylinder even if the rubber elastomer is ruptured. According to its expedient, the inner cylinder is formed at its axial extremities with outwardly upset portions, the outer cylinder is formed at its one axial extremity with a flange portion having a larger diameter than an outside diameter of the upset portion, and an inside diameter of the extremity of the outer cylinder is made smaller than the outside diameter of the upset portion.

  • Patent number: 6568514
Abstract: A single-use damping mechanism. A piston assembly fits within a chamber defined by a piston receiving member. The distal end of the piston receiving member includes a first and second passages which are disposed in fluidic series between the chamber and the ambient air. The first, inner passage is relatively small and controls the damping time of the mechanism. The second, outer passage is relatively large and holds a sealing assembly that prevents fluid from escaping from the chamber, through the first passage, until the mechanism is to be used. The piston assembly includes a pressure relief assembly, which comprises a cavity filled with a compressible material, into and out of which fluid can flow as necessary to protect the mechanism from temperature related pressure changes, and yet which does not interfere with the damping characteristics of the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6565073
Abstract: A suspension assembly for a motor vehicle includes a wheel assembly attached to the frame of a motor vehicle for movement in response to uneven roadway surfaces. A first inductive coil attached to the frame is mounted along an axis, and a second inductive coil is mounted co-axially with the first inductive coil and for movement with the wheel assembly. The inductive coils are movable relative to one another along the axis. An electromagnetic force generated by the inductive coils provides spring and dampening forces for the motor vehicle. Further, variation in the inductance between the coils is measurement to determine the relative position between the coils in order to monitor motor vehicle ride height.

  • Patent number: 6561501
Abstract: A hydraulic antivibration sleeve comprising two constrictive strength members interconnected by an elastomer body which defines first and second diametrically opposite working chambers and a side compensation chamber. The two working chambers communicate with each other via a constricted passage, while the compensation chamber communicates with the first working chamber only via another constricted passage. The elastomer wall which defines the second working chamber is free and is not in contact with the inner strength member except in a certain range of values for the radial static load supported by the sleeve: this provides two different modes of operation depending on the value of said static load.
