  • Patent number: 6547224
Abstract: A suspension damper includes a reservoir housing with a piston slidably mounted therein and including a piston rod extending from the reservoir housing and attached to the vehicle by a mount assembly. An air chamber is defined by a sleeve cirucmscribing the piston rod and connected to the reservoir housing by a flexible portion. The mount assembly includes a pumping chamber which expands and contracts in response to normal road undulations to inflate the air chamber. A valve controlled by the flexible portion of the sleeve controls communication from the air chamber to ambient atmosphere to thereby control inflation of the air chamber and thereby controlling ride height.

  • Patent number: 6543595
Abstract: A driving force distribution device which controls the engagement forces of electromagnetic clutches and which govern the torque distribution between the driving wheels of a vehicle by calculating a target magnetic flux density and converting the same into a target excitation current. Since the relationship between the target magnetic flux density and the target excitation current changes according to a decrease in the air gaps accompanying wear of the frictional engagement members of the electromagnetic clutches, a relationship between the magnetic flux density and the excitation current is determined by applying current to the electromagnetic clutches when torque distribution control is not being carried out such as when the system is started, and the target excitation current is calculated from the target magnetic flux density based on the determined relationship.

  • Patent number: 6540309
Abstract: A fault tolerant electronic braking system for a vehicle has a brake pedal arranged to provide an electronic signal in response to operation thereof. A number of braking nodes are coupled to the brake pedal, each node being arranged to control a brake actuator. Each brake node has a controller arranged for processing the first signal to provide a second signal for controlling the brake actuator, and for providing third signals for transmission to the other control means. The third signals are the expected second signal results of the other controllers. Each controller is arranged to compare the second signal with the third signals received from the other controllers such that errors detected between the second and third signals indicate faults in the controllers.

  • Patent number: 6536567
Abstract: An inertia damper is capable of exhibiting satisfactory endurance. In the inertia damper, when an inertia weight element directly carrying out a damping action and a gel element are combined together, the gel element is interposedly arranged between the outer periphery of the inertia weight element and the inner surface of a peripheral cover section of a holding member of a mount base. This permits the area of arrangement of the gel element to be increased to significantly reduce loading per unit area of the gel element, thereby improving the endurance.

  • Patent number: 6536563
Abstract: A brake apparatus has a base plate and a first brake disk movable in an axial direction. The apparatus also has a second brake disk positioned remote from the base plate relative to the first brake disk. A brake operating device is connected essentially torsion-proof with the first and second brake disks and is positioned between the base plate and the first and second brake disks. A friction lining is positioned between the first and second brake disks and is carried on an input shaft in a torsion-proof manner relative to the shaft. The input shaft is rotatable relative to the base plate. A sleeve type spacer has a fastener passing through the sleeve. The sleeve is adjustable in the axial direction to keep a distance between the first and second brake disks. The sleeve and the fastener axially retain the second brake disk at the selected distance from the first brake disk during operation of the brake apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6536562
Abstract: With electromechanically or electromotively operated brakes, adjusting a clearance presents a problem because with this type of brakes self-actuating reset means of the type provided for hydraulic brakes cannot be used. For adjustment, a neutral position of the actuator must first be determined in which at least one of the friction linings is in close proximity. To this end, the present invention provides for the change in the actuator current (IAkt), the change in the actuator position (&phgr;Akt), and the rigidity of the system as derived from the actuator force as a function of actuator position to be evaluated so as to determine the contact.

  • Patent number: 6533370
Abstract: In a vehicle brake apparatus for executing ABS control to prevent a wheel from locking in such a manner that braking force is controlled so as to keep a slip ratio of a wheel at a target slip ratio so that an excessive drop of a wheel speed from a vehicle body speed is adjusted, an output current for driving a braking actuator is set to a current on which oscillating waves are superimposed during ABS control so that the wheel speed changes to show oscillating waves. Even if the wheel speed once drops to an extent that the slip ratio exceeds the target slip ratio, further decrease of the wheel speed is restricted and the wheel speed turns to an increase soon and this cycle is repeated. Accordingly, there occurs no excessive drop of the wheel speed due to the response delay so that sufficient braking force is generated.

  • Patent number: 6533369
Abstract: A brake system and method of controlling the system are disclosed. The system provides secondary hydraulic braking in a de-energized mode. The system includes a wheel brake associated with wheels of a vehicle typically at each corner of the vehicle. The wheel brake typically includes a caliper or drum for deceleration of the vehicle. The system includes a master cylinder in fluid communication with the wheel brake. In the de-energized mode, the master cylinder operates the wheel brake. A solenoid isolation valve decouples the master cylinder from the wheel brake when the system is in a normal, i.e., an energized, mode. As such, the master cylinder is isolated from the wheel brake and is prevented from operating the wheel brake. Alternatively, in the de-energized mode, the isolation valve couples the master cylinder with the wheel brake to provide the secondary hydraulic braking.

  • Patent number: 6527070
Abstract: A brake-actuating steering and braking control system for a tracked vehicle is provided with a braking control subsystem, a steering control subsystem, and right and left side brake-actuating subsystems. The braking control subsystem includes a brake pedal and is connected to brake mechanisms of each brake-actuating subsystem. A user may depress the brake pedal to apply a braking force to right and left side track assemblies of the tracked vehicle via the brake mechanisms to thereby slow or stop the tracked vehicle. The steering control subsystem includes a steering wheel and is connected to each of the brake mechanisms. The user may rotationally displace the steering wheel, which applies a braking force to the track assembly corresponding to the direction of rotational displacement of the steering wheel via the corresponding brake mechanism to thereby turn the tracked vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6527657
Abstract: An endless belt for power transmitting according to the present invention is a tension-type belt of links forming a chain, and has high power transmitting efficiency although it can be produced with relatively low cost. With this endless belt, the respective blocks and pins start to contact sheave sides in order near the pitch line and the pitch of biting into the sheave is made smaller so as to reduce noise. Even if the respective blocks are inclined when the endless belt bites into pulley, each block contacts the sheave sides only at projecting outer end faces formed extending over a limited area corresponding to the divided pin near the pitch line (P-P). Therefore, a total of four parts, the projecting outer end faces of the first and second blocks and a pair of the divided pins, abut the sheave side in order, in one pitch of the link chain, so as to make the biting pitch smaller and decrease polygon effects.
