  • Patent number: 10718204
Abstract: Given a number of temperature measurements, such as from a Distributed Temperature Sensing System (DTS), at various depths in a wellbore, a derivative of temperature with respect to depth can be calculated. A fluid boundary can then be identified where the depths below the boundary corresponds to the presence of fluid and a low fluctuation regime in the derivative of temperature with respect to depth, and the depths above the boundary correspond to the absence of fluid and a high fluctuation regime in the derivative of temperature with respect to depth.

Abstract: An aircraft environmental control system (ECS) includes a first valve that is adjustable between a plurality of first positions to open or shut-off a bleed air flow that flows from an inlet of the first valve to an outlet of the first valve. A second valve includes an inlet in fluid communication with the first valve outlet, and is adjustable between a plurality of second positions to throttle the bleed air that flows from the inlet of the second valve to an outlet of the second valve. A valve position sensor outputs a position signal indicating a measured position among the plurality of second positions. A controller is in signal communication with the valve position sensor. The controller is configured to determine a primary effective area of the second valve based on the measured position, and to diagnose operation of the first valve based on the primary effective area.

  • Patent number: 10704934
Abstract: A method calculates mean speed of a fluid flowing in an open channel or a partially filled duct. Fluid having a free surface of width L1 extending between walls of the channel or duct includes local speed measurements at the surface of the fluid over a zone of width L2, the set of local measurements generating a spectrum of discrete data expressed in a temporal domain. The spectrum of discrete data is converted into a spectrum of data expressed in a frequency domain via a Fourier transform. A Gaussian curve is fitted to the spectrum and the mean ? and the standard deviation ? of the Gaussian curve are calculated. L2 and ? enable calculating the distribution of speeds over L2. The ratio L2/L1 is calculated and the mean speed of the fluid within the channel or duct is determined based on the Gaussian curve and the ratio L2/L1.

  • Patent number: 10626873
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for determining a use condition of an appliance, such as a sump pump, and outputting an indication of the current use condition of the appliance. A system implementing the method will first generate an actual first signature of a first characteristic associated with the appliance. The system will then generate an actual second signature of a second characteristic associated with the appliance. Each of the actual first and second signatures are then compared to corresponding expected signatures. The system then selects a current use condition from a plurality of use conditions based on the relationship between the actual signatures and the expected signatures.
