  • Patent number: 8300542
Abstract: User equipment in a wireless communication system monitors scheduling information and locally detects a change in link data rate of the uplink channel based on the monitored scheduling information. In this way, a change in link data rate can be detected directly without significant delay. This direct or early detection of a rate change is then combined with an appropriate system reaction. The information of the detected change in link data rate is preferably utilized for adapting the application data rate of an IP application running in the user equipment. As an alternative, or as a complement, data packets are classified based on relative importance and selected for transfer of information over the uplink channel based on the classification of data packets and in dependence on the detected change in link data rate.

  • Patent number: 8295198
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a system and method for using network flows records exported from network routers to provide information about the traffic entering/exiting the device. Network routers or hubs can be configured to authorize or deny various types of network traffic between two network devices whose traffic transits via the router. The method presented describes the creation and application of access control lists on the router from information derived from the network flow information exported by the network router.

  • Patent number: 8295191
Abstract: User quality of experience in a real time communication system is determined by analyzing endpoint performance metric reports correlated with performance factors of each endpoint in an endpoint profile for a more complete view of an audio/video quality of experience. Reports may include endpoint profile reports, which may be sent once at the beginning and then again only if an endpoint attribute changes; session reports, which include measured metric information and are sent at the conclusion of each session; and session interval reports, which also include metric information, but are sent during the session based on a period or a predefined threshold.

  • Patent number: 8284662
Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting peer traffic based on a heuristic model and deep packet inspection is described. A suspect set of peer packets is detected using a heuristic model. From the suspect set of peer packet, a set of verified peer packets is detected using deep packet inspection. The set of verified peer packets is processed according to the peer processing policy, while the non-verified peer packets is processed according a non-peer policy. Furthermore, the statistics are generated from the set of suspect peer packet. These statistics are used to update the heuristic model.

  • Patent number: 8265046
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing mobile stations (“MS”) registration to a generic access network (“GAN”) via a wireless LAN interface are disclosed. The MS may receive a rejection message from a GAN controller with a “network congestion” indication set. The MS may also receive a “connection status” information element as part of the rejection message. The MS can determine from the information element whether the MS can release the connections made to a security gateway (“SEGW”) and to the GAN controller and whether it can release its WLAN connection facility. When the MS releases these connections, battery power is conserved while performing a timer decrement loop. At the end of the timer decrement loop, the MS makes another registration request. The network can reallocate resources when the MS releases the connections to the SEGW and the GAN controller. Methods for performing the GAN registration during network congestions are described.

  • Patent number: 8259595
Abstract: Each of the host transmitting/receiving blocks of a plurality of I/O units connected to a CNC reads the destination specification data and a diagnostic result bit each time the host transmitting/receiving block receives a signal packet from the CNC. When the diagnostic result bit indicates the execution of a diagnosis, the signal packet contains diagnostic DO data, and the relevant DO signal output terminal is short-circuited to the relevant DI signal input terminal to form a diagnostic loop. The diagnostic packet signal passes through the diagnostic loop, the external signal transmitting/receiving block, and the host transmitting/receiving block and returns to the CNC through the host transmitting/receiving block of an adjacent I/O unit closer to the CNC. The CNC analyzes the packet signal to determine whether each of the I/O units is operating normally or not.

  • Patent number: 8259728
Abstract: Methods and systems for a fast drop recovery for a TCP connection are disclosed. Aspects of one method may include a receiving device on a network receiving an out-of-order data. The receiving device may then signal to a transmitting device on the network, which sent the out-of-order packet, to enter a congestion alleviation mode without waiting for a delay period. The network packet transfer may be via TCP protocol, for example. The delay period may comprise a retransmission time-out period if the receiving device does not save isles. If the receiving device does save one or more isles, the delay period may be a period associated with delayed ACK. The signal may comprise a TCP option and/or an available TCP flag. The signal may also comprise, for example, three duplicate ACKs. Other similar signals may be used for networks that use other protocols than TCP.

  • Patent number: 8254369
Abstract: A radio communication system includes a terminal and base stations that transmit subframes to and receive subframes from said terminal by means of OFDMA/TDD. The base stations include a first base station and a second base station that is adjacent to the first base station and that establishes frame synchronization with the first base station. The second base station: receives a specific uplink signal contained in an uplink subframe that is transmitted to the first base station from the terminal that is located at the cell boundary of the first base station and the second base station; based on the timing of the reception of the specific uplink signal, estimates the timing of the transmission of the header of uplink subframes transmitted from the terminal; and based on the timing of the transmission of the header of the uplink subframes that was estimated, controls the timing of the transmission of downlink subframes that are transmitted to the terminal.

  • Patent number: 8248949
Abstract: A method and device for providing an alternative backhaul portal at a mesh access point in a mesh network as provided enables improved backhaul services. The method includes processing a registration of the mesh access point as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network. It is then determined that additional backhaul capacity is required in the mesh network. Next, the mesh access point is activated as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network in response to determining that additional backhaul capacity is required. Mesh network data are then routed through the alternative backhaul portal at the mesh access point until it is determined that additional backhaul capacity is no longer required. The mesh access point is then deactivated as an alternative backhaul portal in the mesh network.

  • Patent number: 8238368
Abstract: Method and system are disclosed for managing erratic interruptions in a transmission system where the messages to be transmitted are composed of data packets and are expressed by means of a polynomial of degree t?1. The senders and the receivers share information making it possible to reference the data packets. In the course of the transmission of a message represented by a polynomial P, at least t points Ai are generated and P(Ai) of the polynomial P is evaluated, with t? greater than or equal to t. The evaluations P(Ai) are transmitted of the t? points to the receiver or receivers concerned, with information allowing the receivers to detect the transmission errors.
