  • Patent number: 8532139
Abstract: An Ethernet network may comprise multi-rate link partners that may be coupled via an Ethernet link. The Ethernet link may comprise a plurality of channels wherein one or more may be silent and/or idle channels set to a low(er) power that may enable energy efficiency. Silent channels may be utilized for transmitting signals comprising one or more distinct physical patterns for controlling data rate transitions. For example, symbols may be utilized for generating the distinct physical patterns. The distinct physical patterns may communicate a new data rate, when to transition the data rate, which channel(s) may bear the data rate transition and/or a method for implementing the data rate transition. The method may comprise activating or suspending a data traffic channel, modifying a signal constellation, modifying PAM levels and/or adjusting inter-frame gap. The new data rate may be determined based on past traffic and/or expected traffic on the network link.

  • Patent number: 8498219
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes receiving label data that indicates all interface labels that belong to each path ID of multiple path IDs associated with corresponding multiple paths between provider edge nodes in a Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. Each interface label is associated with a network interface on a node in the MPLS network. Based on the label data, an untested list that holds data that indicates all unique interface labels is generated. A tested interface selected from the untested list is scheduled for testing. After scheduling, the interface label of the tested interface is removed from the untested list. It is determined whether the untested list still includes data for at least one interface label. If not, then a test of the MPLS network is completed without testing every path end to end, thus conserving network resources.

  • Patent number: 8488439
Abstract: A blind carrier frequency offset estimator is based on a single-OFDM-symbol training sequence in multi-user OFDMA uplink. Through multiple access interference modeling and analysis, a virtual user is employed that occupies the all null sub-carriers. By minimizing the energy leakage on the virtual user in term of tentative frequency offsets, the estimator can approach the real frequency offset. The estimator performs only on frequency-domain, simplifies interference calculations, and lowers the rank of the matrix. An iterative computation method is used to approach the real frequency offset.

  • Patent number: 8477659
Abstract: An audio/video communication system includes plural network terminals. Each network terminal has a communication node and a stand-by node. Every node in a communication group has a first lower node connector and a second lower node connector, and is arranged to store a first value indicating a number of nodes in a first side diverging from the first lower node connector and a second value indicating a number of nodes in a second side diverging from the second lower node connector. A new node is added to the communication group such that the first value and the second value stored in each node is substantially equal, in order to define a balanced binary tree structure. Data sent from a node in the communication group reaches all other nodes in the communication group within a time proportional to a logarithm of the number of nodes in the communication group.

  • Patent number: 8451710
Abstract: Low power wireless communication techniques may be employed in devices that communicate via a wireless body area network, a wireless personal area network, or some other type of wireless communication link. In some implementations the devices may communicate via one or more impulse-based ultra-wideband channels. Inter-pulse duty cycling may be employed to reduce the power consumption of a device. Power may be provided for the transmissions and receptions of pulses by charging and discharging a capacitive element according to the inter-pulse duty cycling. Sub-packet data may be transmitted and received via a common frequency band. A cell phone may multicast to two or more peripherals via wireless communication links.

  • Patent number: 8446817
Abstract: A virtual Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) forwarder (vFCF) distributed in the core layer of an FCoE environment between two or more FCoE-enabled core switches by using a single virtual domain ID for the FCoE forwarders (FCFs) in a fabric is provided. In this manner, the network problem of having a single point of failure in a fabric is eliminated without needing to double the number of core switches in the FCoE environment for redundancy. Because the login and state information is distributed between the FCoE-enabled core switches of a fabric, the loss or failure of a core switch no longer means that the fabric goes down. Instead, when a core switch fails, the hosts and initiators may stay logged in through the other core switches.

  • Patent number: 8391154
Abstract: A technique that seeks to direct and re-direct streams of packets through a packet network without adversely affecting the quality of service of existing streams is disclosed. In accordance with the illustrative embodiment of the present invention, streams of packets that are directed and re-directed through a packet network are initially put on probation. During the probation period, a quality-of-service measure for the stream is compared with a threshold whose value is initially high and decreases with time. This has the advantageous affect of noticing problems quickly so that they can be remediated quickly.
