  • Patent number: 5752422
Abstract: A desk-top circular saw has a main fence mounted on a turntable. The main fence has right and left fence sections and a curved section connecting the two fence sections. The fence sections are bolted down to respective side portions of a base. The fence sections have right and left main guide surfaces disposed at right angles relative to the top surface of the turntable. The right main guide surface has approximately a rectangular shape while the left main guide surface has a portion cut in two steps descending toward a blade slit in order to avoid interference with the locus of the saw blade assembly when tilted. An auxiliary fence is pivotally attached to the rear side of the left fence section. The auxiliary fence includes an auxiliary guide surface located on the same plane as the left main guide surface and a slide portion set backward off the aforementioned plane so as to be slidable with the rear surface of the left fence section in pivoting.

  • Patent number: 5749277
Abstract: The present invention features a cutting mechanism for a receipt-printing machine, which has paper dispensed from a paper-supply roll. The cutting mechanism has a "v"-shaped, guillotine blade that is held in a blade holder. The blade is driven via the blade holder against a stationary blade and into cutting contact with a paper web containing receipt indicia. The paper web is dispensed from a paper-supply roll located within the printer. A displaceable cover is provided to allow for convenient paper loading and, occasionally, paper jam clearing. There is a blade guide which has side mountings for guiding at least one end tab of the guillotine blade into perpendicular contact with the paper web. The guillotine blade is driven through the blade guide into cutting contact with the paper by a drive cam. The drive cam rotatively engages the blade holder, providing the blade with a forward thrust. The cam is driven by a motor-driven gear train that has a timing gear.

  • Patent number: 5749146
Abstract: A shearing machine includes a generally hexagonal shearing blade and a generally rectangular shearing blade on each of an upper and a lower jaw. The hexagon forms a point at the forward end of the hexagonal shearing blade dividing a main shearing edge from an auxiliary shearing edge. A hexagonal edge at the rear of the hexagonal shearing blade forms a relief edge which unloads shearing forces to permit full shearing force to be directed to the rectangular shearing blade during a final stage of shearing a sheet of material. An end of the rectangle is preferably abutted to a portion of the relief edge, without provision for a gap or clearance therebetween. Embodiments are disclosed in which the shape of the shearing blade is non-hexagonal. In one disclosed embodiment, the shape of the shearing blade is non-polygonal, in that at least one edge is a curve.

  • Patent number: 5740708
Abstract: A microtome includes a suction system that is integral with a knife carrier, which opposes the rolling up of tissue sections upon themselves and ensures evacuation of waste sections immediately after their appearance in the region of the sectioning blade of the knife carrier. The knife carrier has a suction cavity that is arranged in the immediate vicinity of the sectioning blade and is connected to a source of vacuum or reduced pressure. A cover is pivotably mounted on the body of the knife carrier. The cover has a u-shaped cross section, opened downwards, and profiled to cover the suction cavity and partially cover the sectioning blade. The cover defines a narrow free space in a form of a channel extending parallel to the upper face of the body of the knife carrier to guide a flow of suctioning air exerted on the sections. A valve has a closed position and an opened position for regulating the flow of suctioning air through the narrow free space.

  • Patent number: 5740717
Abstract: In contrast to typical machines though, the present invention discloses a device which allows the plate to "float" within the mechanism, so that any inaccuracies in dimensional tolerances between plate and knife are absorbed in a damping of the plate or bed of the mechanism. In this situation, the depth of the cut of the score line can be very reliably controlled, which results in the repeatable manufacturing of a child resistant, yet senior effective package. There is used a spring pre-load for this plate, which is such that cutting takes place yet, as the tool closes, the plate and package come in "metal to metal" contact, assuring "near perfect" cuts of the blister package. Extremely high tolerances are maintained, assuring packages which pass all levels and types of QA testing.

  • Patent number: 5740709
Abstract: A web-cutting arrangement uses two-stage cutting to produce a plurality of products from a continuous web (100), while ensuring that the web, and the products (125) cut therefrom, remain continuously guided and undamaged. The arrangement includes a leading cutting structure (170) which provides an initial partial cut (115) into the web. The partial cut (115) is made along a line (110) directed perpendicular to the web length, leaving a remaining uncut portion (120) along the line (110). Using web transport belts (140) located so as to overlap the cutout (or partially cut) portions of the web (100), the continuous web is moved in a direction parallel to the web length with the belts (140) pulling and guiding the web (100) around rotating cylinders (164, 166).

  • Patent number: 5737986
Abstract: A combination mitre and bevel saw 10 includes an elongate fence guide 74 operatively connected to the saw blade assembly 20 and pivotable between a retracted position and an extended position in the plane of the saw blade 26. A spring 72 biases the fence guide 74 into its retracted position. The fence guide may be pulled down by the saw operator into its extended position so as to indicate the position at which the saw blade will impinge upon the workpiece and so as to allow the setting of two fence members 17a, 17b accordingly. The fence guide 74 includes a leading edge, 78, which indicated the width of cut which the saw blade will make in the workpiece and a wider portion 80, trailing the leading edge 78, which indicated the optimum spacing of the fence members 17a, 17b.

  • Patent number: 5737988
Abstract: A media buffer capable of buffering two lengths of media, is fed a first length of media from an imagesetter at a first speed, and releases the media to a processor at a second speed. An input media sensor senses the media entering the buffer. Drive rollers take up the leading edge of the media at the imagesetter speed. Shortly thereafter a signal from an output media sensor located between the drive rollers and the processor, opens an input door to an input bin and stops the drive rollers. The incoming media continues to be fed by the imagesetter forming a first slack loop within the input bin. The imagesetter signals the buffer that the media has been cut, thereby actuating drive rollers to advance the media at the processor speed to a pair of rollers in the processor. A signal from the processor sensor opens an output door to an output bin. The drive rollers increase speed to transport the first piece of media from the input bin to the output bin thereby forming a second slack loop.

  • Patent number: 5735185
Abstract: A rotary-type sheet cutter for cutting a continuous sheet material comprising a stationary blade having an end edge extending along the widthwise direction of the sheet material; and a rotary blade having an end edge which rotates about a rotary axis extending along the widthwise direction of the sheet material during rotation of the rotary blade, the end edge of the rotary blade intersection-contacting with that of the stationary blade under pressure so as to cut the sheet material along the widthwise direction when the rotary blade rotates. The rotary blade is formed by bending a flat plate along a bend line which is brought into a state of extending along the widthwise direction of the sheet material, and the end edge and the bend line are arranged to form an angle opening toward a cutting starting side.
