  • Patent number: 5771592
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of maintaining a cover on the razor head of a wet shave razor. Such a cover is used to prevent damage to the cutting edge of the razor and to prevent accidental contact with the cutting edge when the razor is not in use. The present invention is also directed to a razor unit having a cover which is semi-permanently affixed to the razor head via a protective seal. The cover is affixed to the razor head during manufacture in a position such that it covers the cutting edges of the blades. Preferably, the cover is affixed through the use of an adhesive strip or strips which are attached to the cover and the razor head. The user must manually remove or break the adhesive strip in order to remove the cover to expose the cutting edge and begin shaving.

  • Patent number: 5769297
Abstract: A wafer to be diced to form chips is placed on the sticky side of a thin elastic film in the form of a Swiss Cross which is secured to the side members of a compressed but expandable square frame, the frame being placed in a scribing and dicing machine in its released state so that the frame and thus the film can expand during the dicing operation, further expansion being accomplished after dicing of the wafer by heating the film while in an expansion fixture to insure removal of the chips from the film without damaging adjacent chips. The sticky material on the film may be rendered less sticky after formation of the chips by exposure to ultraviolet energy or the like.

  • Patent number: 5765459
Abstract: Point needles in a collecting cylinder are driven in a two stage extension process to initially needle or pierce the leading edge of a product web being cut. Once the cut has been made, the needle tips are moved further radially outwardly from the cylinder to secure the cut edge. As the signatures are transferred to a folding cylinder, the needle points are retracted along a single stage retraction curve which is different from the path traveled during the two stage extension process.

  • Patent number: 5761977
Abstract: A cryostatic microtome with an automatic approach of the preparation automatically stops the feed movement between the microtome knife and a frozen preparation towards each other upon a mechanical contact between the knife and the preparation. An electrical voltage of a few volts is applied between the microtome knife and the preparation. A small current which appears, due to the intrinsic conductivity of the preparation, upon mechanical contact between the preparation and the microtome knife, and a smaller voltage drop at the preparation resulting therefrom, is current amplified by means of a preamplifier connected as an impedance converter and subsequently measured. The feed movement between the preparation and the microtome knife is automatically stopped when the voltage at the amplifier output falls below a predefined threshold voltage.

  • Patent number: 5761979
Abstract: An improved saw assembly (30) includes a rotatable arbor (74) on which two or more saw blades (75) are mounted. The driving interface (96, 98) between the saw blades and the arbor permits the axis of rotation of the saw blades to be collinear with the arbor axis (90) or skewed a few degrees (94) in either direction. A saw blade positioning assembly (72) includes pairs of guide arms (84) which engage the sides (88) of the saw blades to position each saw blade at the proper location along the arbor and at the proper skew angle. The guide arms are moved in unison so that the axial position and the skew angle of each of the saw blades can be changed in unison before and during sawing operations.
