  • Patent number: 5339232
Abstract: A miniature light set comprises lamps, lamp bases, lamp holders and a ribbon cord with three or more wires. Each of the lamp holders has a socket at one end which receives a lamp base and a wireway at the opposite end. The wireway has two upstanding elongate walls which define an elongate channel therebetween for receiving the ribbon cord, and has a transverse pressing bar at each end of the channel. Mounted on the outside of each wireway wall is an engagement lug. A pair of conductor plates are positioned in a bulb socket into which a lamp can be inserted with the lamp lead wires in contact with the plates. The other ends of the conductor plates project into the wireway and make contact with conductors in corresponding stripped portions of the wires. A snap-on cover has a base and two depending U-shaped sides that can engage the lugs and lock the cover on the wireway.

  • Patent number: 5337224
Abstract: A compact portable transparency illuminator in the form of a thin light board includes a wafer-thin electroluminescent panel as the illuminating element, with the panel being no more than 1/32nd of an inch in thickness in one embodiment. In one embodiment, the panel is driven by an inverter or controller which converts battery power to 1,000-2,000 Hertz 120 volt AC. In general, the frequency at which the panel is driven is more than twice that normally utilized to drive electroluminescent panels in XY matrix displays to bring the color temperature of the light emitted to the 5,000-6,000 degree Kelvin range for true color viewing of the transparencies.

  • Patent number: 5333458
Abstract: A liquid fuel power plant (100) including an open-ended combustion chamber (102) and a first mechanism (110) for delivering a combustible fuel to the open-ended combustion chamber (102). A second mechanism (136) is included for igniting the fuel in the open-ended combustion chamber (102). A folded tubular mechanism (140) is provided for extending the length of the combustion chamber (102) to decompose the ignited fuel and to provide an exhaust gas comprised of fundamental elements. Finally, a third mechanism (160) is provided for using the exhaust gas to perform useful work. In a preferred embodiment the liquid fuel power plant (100) includes separate fuel and air inlet lines (110, 120). The air inlet line (120) delivers compressed air, which can be preheated, in an air passageway (130) and thereafter is mixed with the combustible fuel in the open-ended combustion chamber (102). An igniter (136) causes combustion of a compressed air-fuel mixture in an ignition region (118) of the combustion chamber (102).

  • Patent number: 5330327
Abstract: A system for the transport of high solids materials such as concrete includes a positive displacement pump, a pipeline connected to the pump and a valve in the pipeline located downstream from the pump for preventing material flow through the pipeline when the valve is in a closed position. The valve is closed at the end of each pumping stroke to prevent material flow through the pipeline. The pressure of material on the pump side of the valve is sensed. During a subsequent pumping stroke, the valve is opened when sufficient pressure exists on the pump side of the valve to ensure that material will flow in a positive direction through the pipeline.

  • Patent number: 5318317
Abstract: An air pump for use with a chain-driven bicycle having a freewheel. The pump assembly comprises a pair of opposed cylinders and a double-ended piston rod mounted in a housing. The piston rod has a bearing slot which engages a crank pin on a crankshaft which is driven by a sprocket. Rotation of the sprocket reciprocates the double-ended piston rod in the cylinders. A hook-shaped extension of the housing fits over the top of the chain stay of the bicycle, and a vertically movable clamping member provided with a ratchet mechanism abuts the underside of the chain stay; a lever operated cam clamps the chain stay intermediate the hook portion and the clamping member. The lower run of the bicycle drive chain engages the drive sprocket of the pump assembly. Reverse rotation of the bicycle's crank assembly causes the conventional freewheel to also rotate in a reverse direction without rotating the wheel of the bicycle.
