The present invention provides an absorbent article comprising an absorber composed of at least one absorbent layer, wherein a water-absorbent resin powder meeting the following requirements (a) to (d) is disposed in an uppermost layer of the absorber: (a) a bulk density: 0.45 g/ml to 0.62 g/ml; (b) an absorption speed by a vortex method: 20 seconds to 50 seconds; (c) a liquid-passing speed under load: 10 seconds or less; and (d) a moisture absorption blocking ratio: 5% or less.

Each side flap has a longitudinally extending elastic gathering member attached adjacent to its proximal edge. The absorbent assembly is smaller in width and in length than the chassis. The side edges and end edges of the absorbent assembly may be disposed proximally relative to the respective side edges and end edges of the chassis. The absorbent assembly includes an absorbent core that may contain superabsorbent particles, which may be contained inside pockets. The chassis may be extensible. The absorbent assembly may be in a cruciform pattern to the chassis to allow portions of the chassis to extend laterally.

The collection canister has a filter assembly having a filter and a passageway between the filter and a wall of the collection canister. The collection canister also includes a canister interface having a suction port, an inlet port, and a channel. The vacuum source draws air through the suction port from the channel which draws air from the passageway connected to the channel, the air in the passageway is drawn from the collection canister through the filter, and the air in the collection canister is drawn through the inlet port.

The fluid flow control member is a spacer fabric including a top layer, a bottom layer and an interconnecting layer of pile filaments between the top layer and the bottom layer. The spacer fabric has a ratio of thickness to basis weight at 15 kPa of at least 1.5·10?5 m/gsm, as measured according to the Mecano-method disclosed herein.
