Abstract: A wireless communication device includes conventional components to permit a network communication link to be established with a wireless communication network. In addition, the wireless communication device includes a non-network short-range transceiver that detects the presence of other similarly equipped devices. When two such equipped devices come within proximity of each other, a direct non-network wireless communication link is established.
Abstract: In a wireless communication device having collocated Bluetooth and WLAN systems, wireless communication in a device having Bluetooth and WLAN systems, the device monitors for beacon transmission from an access point for a threshold number of access point beacon intervals when an SCO Bluetooth link is active. Once a threshold number of beacon intervals have passed without receiving a beacon transmission from the access point, the WLAN module sends a PS-Poll message to the access point to maintain the link and so that any queued data for the device can be transmitted.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for coordinating the scheduling of beamformed data to reduce interference in a wireless system. A customer premise equipment (CPE) uses a plurality of bits to quantize the phase angle of the beamformed data received by CPE and reports it to its serving base station. The serving base station selects one of the phase adjustment angles based on the bits received from the CPE in order to schedule the data transmission to the CPE. The phase adjustment angles are in “n” degree steps.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a multi-state detachable smartphone-tablet hybrid mobile device comprising a number of display parts connected to each other. By opening one or some of the displays, more screen space becomes available, and the smartphone is therefore converted and expanded to the tablet device. With folding the displays back, the device becomes a smartphone again. The display parts connected with the special design hinge mechanism enabling opening of up to 360 degrees due to the special hinge mechanism. The invention further includes a detachable display parts feature, transforming the device to a number of single-display smartphone devices. The device may further comprise a number of photovoltaic cells covering sufficient portion of each display part. Such a large number of photovoltaic cells will aim to produce enough energy to make it a completely self-charging device.
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and articles of manufacture for performing inter-frequency measurements in a mobile network are disclosed. An example method in a mobile station disclosed herein comprises receiving, from a network, a list specifying a set of frequencies for which measurements are to be performed, and if the set of frequencies exceeds a monitoring capability of the mobile station, prioritizing measurement of a subset of frequencies from the set of frequencies based on information separate from the list obtained from the network.
Abstract: A wireless device has at least first and second radio systems. A first of the radio systems provides an indication for a second of the radio systems that it is transmitting or is about to transmit. The actual interference caused by transmissions by the first radio system to operation of the second radio system is measured, and/or the likely interference caused by transmissions by the first radio system to operation of the second radio system is estimated. The behavior of at least one of the first and second radio systems is modified in order to reduce the interference depending on the measured actual interference or estimated likely interference.

Abstract: A system including a sensing module to sense an interference signal in a wireless channel, determine whether the interference signal is noise or a modulated signal transmitted by a device, and attempt to determine a modulation scheme of the modulated signal. A capacity determination module determines capacities of the wireless channel to transmit data using a plurality of modulation schemes. The plurality of modulation schemes includes (i) the modulation scheme used by the device to modulate the modulated signal if the sensing module can determine the modulation scheme of the modulated signal and (ii) one or more modulation schemes that can be used by the device to modulate the modulated signal if the sensing module cannot determine the modulation scheme of the modulated signal. A selection module selects, based on the capacities of the wireless channel, one of the plurality of modulation schemes to transmit data over the wireless channel.
