Abstract: The present invention is a BD-ROM having AVClips and PlayList information pieces, which are playback paths for the AVClips, recorded thereon. In addition, the BD-ROM also has multiple playback paths and dynamic scenarios recorded thereon. The dynamic scenarios instruct a playback device to play a digital stream using the playback paths. The dynamic scenarios include selection procedures (IF-statement blocks) which cause the playback device to compare a constant and a register-stored value indicating a user's age set on the playback device, (PSR(13)), and to select a playback path from among the multiple playback paths according to the result of the comparison.
Abstract: A method of segmenting a sequence of video images according to scene activity, the method comprising: defining a first series of nodes in a first multi-dimensional space, each node corresponding to an image of the sequence of video images; defining a transformation function that maps each of the first series of nodes to a corresponding node in a second multi-dimensional space having a lower dimensionality than the first multi-dimensional space; applying said transformation function to each of the first series of nodes to define a second series of respective nodes in the second multi-dimensional space; applying a data clustering algorithm to the second series of nodes to identify clusters of nodes within the second multi-dimensional space, the data clustering algorithm being constrained by a measure of feature distance between a pair of clusters of nodes and a measure of temporal distance between the pair of clusters of nodes; determining a representative image from each cluster of nodes and plotting each repr

Abstract: According to one embodiment, methods and systems are disclosed for converting multi-media content to multiple deliverable formats using a conversion workflow. For example, a single source content file can be captured and a plurality of deliverable content files can be derived from the single source content file. Each of the plurality of deliverable content files can be in a format specific to a different distribution channel. That is, a single source media file can be used to automatically build one or more distribution files for a particular channel or channels. Furthermore, the distribution files can be built including logos, branding, open/close graphics, ratings, promo material, etc. The inclusion of these elements can be based on a common set of business rules defining, for example, what elements should be included in different types of distribution files.

Abstract: An information storage medium storing subtitle text-based information, and a method and apparatus utilizing same, process a subtitle. The information storage medium includes: dialog information which contains script text information of the subtitle and information specifying an output type of the script text; and presentation information which contains style information used to convert the script text into a bitmap format through rendering. With this structure, the amount of data required for a subtitle and the amount of data that should be processed when a subtitle is output may be greatly reduced.
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for synchronizing a reproduction time of a time-shifted content with a reproduction time of a real-time content. The apparatus includes a tuner/demodulator which tunes broadcasting signals and demodulates the tuned digital broadcasting signals so as to output the broadcasting signals in forms of transport streams, a demultiplexer which demultiplexes the output transport streams so as to divide the transport streams into video data, audio data, and supplementary information and output the video data, audio data, and supplementary information, a data refining unit which removes unnecessary frames from the video data and the audio data, and an HDD which stores the video data and the audio data, from which the unnecessary frames are removed.
Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a first display control section, a first input section, and a second display control section. The first display control section controls displaying of a plurality of content representative pictures so that the content representative pictures are displayed and arranged in a first direction. The content representative pictures represent a plurality of titles of content. Each of the titles of content is made up of a plurality of structural units. The first input section inputs a first user's operation to select one content representative picture from the displayed content representative pictures. The second display control section controls displaying of structural unit representative pictures so that the structural unit representative pictures are displayed and arranged in a second direction starting from the selected content representative picture when the first user's operation is input.
Abstract: Automatic selection, recording and meaningful labeling of tracks from media streams is provided. Content information which relates to tracks currently being played and/or to previously played tracks is used to guide selection of tracks to be recorded and to provide meaningful labels for recorded tracks. This content information does not provide an advance schedule of tracks to be played in the future. A segment is temporarily recorded from a selected media stream. The content information relating to tracks in the segment is compared with previous user input (i.e., track preferences) to select tracks within the segment to be recorded. For each selected track, clipping is performed to identify track start and end times. Clipped tracks are recorded onto a suitable long-term recording medium, and labeled with a meaningful label derived from the content information. Content information can be derived by automatic analysis of the media stream.
Abstract: In one embodiment, the data structure includes at least one graphic information of first type graphic information and second type graphic information. The first type graphic information is for always on display and the second type graphic information is for display in response to user request.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for content reproduction, a recording medium, and a program that make it possible to edit taken images easily and automatically in accordance with an intention of an editor. Each time a reproduction is performed, a reproduction start point and a reproduction end point of VOBU units of images reproduced by a disk camcorder are recorded in Play Data 81. The recorded reproduction start point and reproduction end point are read, and edit points representing a reproduced section of a longest, a shortest, or an average length are obtained. The obtained edit points are registered in a UD_PGCIT 94. Scenes are reproduced in order on the basis of the edit point data in the UD_PGCIT 94, and thus automatic edit reproduction is performed. The present invention is applicable to disk camcorders.
Abstract: Techniques and interface controls are described which allow users of signal editing applications to easily select previously-selected segments of the signal. As the user selects segments of the signal, the signal editing application automatically generates “selection history data”. The selection history data that is generated for a selected segment indicates the boundaries of the selected segment, and the sequence in which the selected segment was selected relative to other previously-selected segments. The signal editing application provides controls for re-selecting the previously-selected segments that are reflected in the selection history data. In response to user-input received through these controls, the signal editing tool reselects a previously-selected segment based on the boundaries indicated in the selection history data.
Abstract: [Object] To download, even when a recording medium having content recorded thereon is not inserted in an electronic apparatus, subcontent related to the content. [Solving Means] With a BD-ROM inserted in a recording/reproducing apparatus 100, a resident application in the recording/reproducing apparatus 100 reads metadata stored in the BD-ROM and stores the metadata in a disc library DB 34. When a BD-ROM is not inserted in the recording/reproducing apparatus 100, the resident application downloads the latest trailer from a content server 22 based on a URL of the content server 22 included in the metadata stored in the disc library DB 34, and then stores the latest trailer in a local storage 8. Accordingly, even when a BD-ROM is not inserted, the resident application can reproduce, via a disc library 30, the latest trailer stored in the local storage 8.
Abstract: A program recording reservation system includes a recording apparatus including a recorder for recording broadcast programs; and a remote controller for setting a recording reservation for a broadcast program to be recorded by the recorder of the recording apparatus.
