  • Patent number: 8041183
Abstract: Time stamps are attached to packets output from stream data input section by a time stamp-attaching section in a HDD, and the packets are then recorded into a HDD main unit. A stream data-generating section removes the time stamps from the packets subsequent to a predetermined amount of packets last recorded into the HDD main unit and controls the timing of the packets according to the time stamps, and the packets are transferred to an HDD. In the HDD, time stamps start to be generated according to the last predetermined amount of packets, and to the packets transferred thereafter, time stamps are attached in a similar fashion as in the HDD, so that the packets are recorded into the HDD main unit.

  • Patent number: 8004568
Abstract: In an image pick-up apparatus of the invention, when capturing is started, a chapter formation-commanding portion transfers a chapter table to a memory. When a user depresses a chapter formation button, a chapter is formed in an empty table of the chapter table. After completion of the capturing, the chapter formation-commanding portion transfers the chapter table stored in the memory to a storage portion. By performing the operation described above, a chapter can be formed in an arbitrary time position.

  • Patent number: 7995903
Abstract: A recording and reproducing module records a signal (broadcast program) based on a first compression method to a recording medium, and during a period of time during which recording is not performed, reproduces the signal based on the first compression method, which has been recorded to the recording medium. Then, a transcoding module transcodes the signal based on the first compression method to a signal based on a second compression method. The signal based on the second compression method, whose transcoding has been completed, is recorded to the recording medium; and the signal based on the first compression method is erased from the recording medium. The controller refers to recording history information and sets a schedule including a target broadcast program to be transcoded and a time zone in which the target broadcast program is transcoded.

  • Patent number: 7986865
Abstract: The recording operation can be rapidly started and a notification about the operating state during the recording operation can be realized without adding a new component, whereby a target scene of a subject can be recorded reliably. When a video signal captured by a camera unit 10 is compressed and encoded and is recorded on a DV tape, a control unit 100 controls a compression/decompression unit 40 and a tape deck unit 60 to compress and encode the video signal and record as DV data without using compressed data already recorded on the DV tape. In other words, the control unit 100 controls the operation of compressing and encoding video data to be newly recorded in such a manner that compressed data already recorded on the DV tape is not read out, thus reducing the time until recording of the video data on the DV tape is started.

  • Patent number: 7912297
Abstract: A method of hierarchical image indexing which extracts representative images of a TV program and generates a hierarchical index image guide of the representative images, and an apparatus therefor. Respective images at predetermined times are extracted from a predetermined program. A hierarchical index is allocated to each extracted image and the indexes are mapped to locations of transport stream packets. A tree of images having the allocated indexes is constructed as a hierarchically indexed Image guide (HIIG). When a stored program is to be reproduced, a location desired to be watched is selected in the HIIG, and from the selected location, reproducing and trick plays (FF, rewind) are enabled such that a user easily searches the program and begins viewing the program at the searched for location.
