The polyaldehyde compounds e.g. polyacrolein, polymethacrolein or polyglutaraldehyde, were used as microspheres or as powders. The agarose-polyaldehyde beads are capable of covalently binding in a single step, through their aldehyde groups, compounds containing primary amino groups of thiol groups, such as proteins, antibodies, enzymes and drugs. The beads are useful for various biological applications e.g. affinity chromatography, hemoperfusion, ion exchange resins, cell labeling, diagnostic purposes and cell separation.

Abstract: Hard coatings for mechanically and corrosively stressed elements are applicable to arbitrarily chosen substrate materials. The mentioned elements can be tools, cutting inserts or bearings. Further, applications are possible in electronics and optics and also for decorative purposes. Hard coatings on the basis of carbon and boron nitride, produced by known techniques, are obtained which can be used in a wide field of application, exhibiting, besides a high hardness, maximum adhesion and good protection against wear and corrosion at high temperatures. The C and B/N coatings consist of amorphous network structures with short range orders similar to that of the hexagonal crystalline phases of carbon and boron nitride, have hydrogen concentrations between 5 atom-% and 50 atom-% and additional components consisting of metals and/or boron and or silicon and/or noble gases in the concentration range between 1 atom-% and 85 atom-%.

Abstract: A laminate of foil and kraft paper is adhered to the upper face of fiber glass insulation so that the exposed foil reflects radiant heat entering the attic through the roof of a building structure. Relatively thick kraft paper supports the very thin layer of foil without causing a fire hazard due to the use of an inorganic adhesive, such as sodium silicate, to bond the two together and also due to the use of a fire retardant water-based adhesive to bond the foil-kraft laminate to the fiber glass. The laminate is preferably perforated to prevent it from functioning as a vapor barrier.
Abstract: Ski upper- and lower-surface constituting materials are set in position in a mold provided with a space appropriate for the dimensional distribution of the padding for the ski. The ski upper-surface constituting material is arranged so that a resin sheet of ABS resin, etc. constitutes the outer surface of ski. The inner upper surface of the upper mold piece is formed in a curved surface having, for example, grooves. A foamy resin is injected to fill the space between the ski upper and lower constituting materials. The foaming pressure raised by the foamy resin will press the resin sheet against the inner upper surface of the upper mold piece with resulting deformation of the resin sheet. Thus one may obtain a ski which is provided on its upper surface with projections.
