  • Patent number: 4774145
Abstract: A conventional zinc phosphate chemical conversion film formed on an iron article comprises zinc phosphate hydrates, i.e., Zn.sub.3 (PO.sub.4).sub.2.4H.sub.2 O and Zn.sub.2 Fe(PO.sub.4).sub.2.4H.sub.2 O. A novel chemical conversion film is mainly composed of Zn.sub.3 (PO.sub.4).sub.2.2H.sub.2.4H.sub.2 O. The ratio of ##EQU1## is from 0.3 to less than 1. The problems of conventional chemical conversion film arise due to 4 moles of water of crystallization of the zinc phosphates which desiccates at a baking temperature of the paint. The small amount of water of crystallization of Zn.sub.3 (PO.sub.4).sub.2.2H.sub.2 O provides an improved chemical conversion film with respect to the corrosion resistance and the like.

  • Patent number: 4770945
Abstract: A sculpture is constructed by defining a seed having a plurality of algebraic in which the sum (M) of the orders of the surfaces is five or greater and having a plurality of edges at the intersection of the surfaces. The seed is physically modeled and the edges of the seed model are extended into space in accordance with the algebraic equations that define them. All intersection points of the edge extensions are determined and at least one rod is extended from the seed model along at least one of the edge extensions for a predetermined distance. Then, a unique algebraic adjoint surface having a maximal order of M-4 and including all of the intersection points is determined and physically modeled. The combination of the seed, at least one rod and the adjoint surface model comprises the sculpture.

  • Patent number: 4767658
Abstract: Fully cured thermoset ethylene-propylene rubber sheets having integral thermoplastic adhesive strips molded along the lateral edges are produced using a manufacturing method where the strips are applied prior to vulcanization of the rubber sheeting. The factory applied adhesive strip is non-tacky and dry but is activated by heat to securely bond the ethylene-propylene rubber sheets together in an overlap splicing procedure. A method of using the integral adhesive rubber sheeting for single-ply rubber roofing membrane or pond liners is also disclosed. Instantaneous attainment of maximum seam strength, water tightness and consistency of the seams are advantages over conventional solvent-based adhesive methods.
