  • Patent number: 6000570
Abstract: An innovative container lid having an integrally formed tamper evident band that goes through a series of changes or metamorphoses during the manufacturing and application process. The tamper evident band is attached to the lid at weak points on dogs formed around the periphery of the lid. Before use, the tamper evident band has a diameter substantially larger than the outer diameter of the lid. When the lid is installed in a container, and tangential and radial forces are applied to the periphery of the lid, the attachment points of the tamper evident band rupture and the band is displaced in a rippling effect with the dogs locking into sockets formed in the sidewall of the tamper evident band. Continued pressure is applied to the side of the tamper evident band until it is pressed firmly around the entire periphery of the lid against the side of a container with all the dogs engaged in sockets.

  • Patent number: 5992670
Abstract: A fuel tank cap which enables static electricity to be discharged quickly and stably when the user manually touches a fuel tank cap to open or close the cap. The fuel tank cap has a casing body and a cover member with four discharge projections for discharging static electricity to a filler neck of a fuel tank. The four discharge projections are arranged in a third radial direction that has an angle of 45 degrees with respect to both a first radial direction and a second radial direction. The first radial direction, in which a handle member of the cover member is arranged, gives the maximum contraction of the cover member, whereas the second radial direction gives the minimum contraction of the cover member. The four discharge projections are arranged on a circle about the center of the cover member to reduce the effect of resin contraction.

  • Patent number: 5992659
Abstract: A tamper evident flip top pouring closure is designed for use with a corresponding container. A tamper evident flip top pouring closure and container in combination has a closure with a screw thread thereon together with interlocking means and a container with the corresponding screw thread and corresponding interlocking means. The interlocking means prevents the removal of the closure from the container once the closure is installed on the container. The interlocking means on the closure are a series of tabs that are connected to the closure and extend inward at an angle. The interlocking means on the closure are two sets of saw-teeth having a gentle slope on one side and a steep slope on another side. The closure is then installed on the container and cannot be removed because the tabs abutt a steep slope of the saw-teeth and will not override the saw-teeth in a reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 5992669
Abstract: A fuel tank cap structure and method of manufacturing which prevents a parting line formed on a cover member in the process of injection molding from being undesirably shaven. The fuel tank cap includes a casing body and a cover member that is rotatable in one direction relative to the casing body via a ratchet mechanism when a torque of or above a predetermined level is applied to the cover member. The cover member has fitting projections that are held by an outer ring member of the casing body. A slide mold is used for manufacturing the cover member having the fitting projections that are undercut in the injection molding. This causes a parting line to be formed on a top wall of the cover member. Anti-shaving projections formed at substantially the same height as that of the parting line prevent the parting line from being slid against the outer ring member and shaven.

  • Patent number: 5979682
Abstract: A threaded type tamper-indicating closure in which the tamper-indicating ring is separated from the cap element of the closure as the closure is opened, in which the tabs which contact an undersurface of a bead on the outer surface of an engaged container finish are prevented from flexing radially inwardly beyond a limited degree so as to assure that the tabs will function immediately as the closure commences unthreading. In some of the disclosed embodiments, this is accomplished by positioned the pivot axis of the tabs either radially inwardly of the inner edge of the tabs when they are in relatively unstressed condition, or in a common vertical plane therewith, so that the tabs pivot radially outwardly as they come into contact with the bead. In other embodiments, the tabs are of sufficient axial length that they contact the outer surface of the container finish before substantial pivoting occurs.
