  • Patent number: 6447227
Abstract: A threaded fastener which includes a shank, a radially enlarged head at one end, an external thread on at least a part of the shank, and a bore which extends through the head and into the threaded part of the shank. At least the threaded part of the shank is radially expandable into the threaded engagement with the wall of a suitable unthreaded bore in a workpiece in which the threaded part has been inserted. The fastener thereafter is removable by unscrewing it from the workpiece bore. The expandable part of the shank is provided with a plurality of radially extending lugs or other protrusions provided on the threaded part of the shank thereby to resist unscrewing of the fastener from the workpiece bore.

  • Patent number: 6443677
Abstract: A nut plate is formed from a generally U-shaped clip having first and second elongated legs and a connecting leg extending therebetween. The first leg has an opening therein for receipt of a nut and for securing the nut in the leg. The second leg has a pass-through opening opposing the nut opening. The nut is fully passed through the pass-through opening for securing in the first leg. The nut can be positioned in the first leg without deflection and urging away of the legs from one another. A method for making the nut plate includes the steps of forming an elongated strip, forming a nut opening in the strip and forming a pass-through opening in the strip. The strip is bent to define a clip having the first and second legs and the connecting leg. The clip can be heat treated. A nut is then passed through the pass-through opening into the nut opening and is secured to the first leg.

  • Patent number: 6439819
Abstract: A three-sided, progressively-formed threaded fastener is comprised of a plurality of planar longitudinal faces intersecting at comer areas. Shank tabs extend downward from the bottom of each of the faces at the base of the fastener. Threaded regions along the inside surface of the planar faces are coined indentations applied during the formation of the fastener. A plurality of wedge-shaped protrusions extend downward from the comer areas at the base of the fastener. The combination of shank tabs and wedge-shaped protrusions form a clinch profile along the bottom of the fastener so that it may can be affixed to a sheet of metal by clinch fit.

  • Patent number: 6435792
Abstract: An improved sleeve for insulating a tacking strip from materials applied to furniture products. The sleeve covers and encompasses the entire tacking strip with the exception of a central corridor through which tacks from the strip extend. The sleeve slides over the tacking strip and includes a flexible flange graduated in thickness on either side of a central corridor left open by the sleeve. The sleeve is installed around the tacking strip by a lateral displacement of the sleeve over the strip causing the graduated flanges to deform slightly upon contact with each tack along the central corridor. Due to the deforming properties of the flange, resistance on each tack is small enough that insertion of the sleeve over the tacking strip not hindered yet sufficient to prevent further lateral displacement of the sleeve once it is installed around the tacking strip.

  • Patent number: 6422796
Abstract: A flexible disk for securely holding insulation to an air duct made from a resilient material, and having a convex upper surface and a diameter of from 1.5 inches to 4.0 inches. A washer for receiving a disk fastener is centrally positioned in the disk top, which is thicker than the top. A rim is located at the circumference of the top which has a planar bottom for contacting the insulation. When the disk is properly attached to an air duct by a fastener, it deforms to a concave configuration by which it resiliently exerts force on the underside surface of the disk and the rim which in turn presses downward on the insulation, securely holding the insulation in place without crushing the insulation.

  • Patent number: 6419278
Abstract: A pressure fluid conduit coupling fitting and method of making same, wherein the nipple tube fitting shank is made of specially grooved rigid material. A conventional elastomeric hose conduit having an open end telescopically receives the grooved fitting shank, and a conventional crimp-collar is sleeved over and shrunk-deformed onto the hose open end to permanently sealably secure the coupled conduit connection. An external circumferential surface of the fitting shank has one or more circumferentially continuous sharp edge external grooves of a shallow depth and predetermined width that are defined by the shank ribs formed between the grooves. The junction of the groove sidewalls with the respectively adjacent shank rib surface defines a circumferentially continuous sharp edge formed generally as a 90° junction of these groove sidewalls and rib surface, plus or minus a few degrees.

  • Patent number: 6419435
Abstract: An enhanced strength screw-type, self-tapping masonry anchor bolt for fastening a fixture or other attachment to masonry in which a hole is drilled to receive the anchor. The anchor is provided with a shank having a root section surrounded by at least one helical male cutting thread whose crest diameter exceeds the diameter of the hole whereby when the anchor is screwed into the hole, the cutting thread then cuts a female thread in the bank of the hole to mechanically retain the anchor therein to impart to the anchor a holding power that resists axial pull-out forces. The cutting thread has a leading face that is arcuate or radial (circular) and a trailing edge that is flat and disposed essentially normal to the shank of the bolt. Also provided is a masonry anchor for use with thin-walled masonry articles such as cinder blocks which is essentially a sleeve of a durable polymeric material.

  • Patent number: 6416268
Abstract: A taper nut retention device mechanically fastens a plurality of pressure reduction disks. A cage end member at one end of the stacked disks has a series of counterbores, each aligned with respective mounting holes in each disk. A second cage end member at the other end of the stack has a series of inwardly converging, tapered bores with shallow taper angles, each aligned with respective mounting holes and a counterbore. A taper nut with a threaded interior and an outer tapered surface with a shallow taper angle matching the tapered bore is inserted into and engageably contacts the tapered bore. A threaded bolt is inserted into the counterbore and through the disk mounting holes to threadably engage the taper nut. Tightening of the bolt and nut mechanically secures the stacked disk assembly.
