  • Patent number: 4943000
Abstract: A method is disclosed for brazing without filler metal two components, of which at least one is an Al alloy. According to the method, prior to brazing, at least one Al alloy component is maintained in a region of temperatures included between the temperature of solvus T.sub.v of the alloy and 2/5 of temperature of fusion (solidus) T.sub.s of the alloy, expressed in degrees Kelvin, for a sufficient period of time. After this treatment, which may or may not be isothermal, the alloy is suitable for brazing in a domain of temperatures included between the temperature of fusion T.sub.e of the most fusible eutectic corresponding to the equilibrium diagram of the constituents of the alloy, and that of the solidus of the alloy. The method permits the realization of perfectly homogeneous brazed seams for alloys considered not to be brazable.

  • Patent number: 4942916
Abstract: A foundry core blowing machine includes an upright frame with a blow head for a sand-resin mix fixed at the top. Sectionalized vertically movable rods extend through bushings at the top and bottom of the frame. Fixed to the rods are a cope support and a secondary table. The secondary table supports the cylinder of a cope-drag clamp piston-cylinder assembly with the rod of such assembly being connected to a primary table thereabove which slidably moves on the rods. The secondary table and the rods secured thereto are elevated independently of the cope-drag clamp so that the clamped cope and drag may be elevated to be clamped against the blow head, lowered for interposition of a cure head, and reclamped for cure, all while the cope and drag remain firmly clamped together. Only after curing are the cope and drag unclamped for lowering, stripping and removal of the core from the machine.

  • Patent number: 4942999
Abstract: Composite bodies comprise a metallic member and a ceramic member integrally joined together by joining a projection of the ceramic member to a recess of the metallic member. Their joining strength is improved by substantially limiting brazing metal to an interface between the outer peripheral surface of the projection of the ceramic member and the innner peripheral surface of the recess of the metallic member. The joining strength is also improved by forming a groove around the outer periphery of the metallic member at the joined end. The joining strength is also improved by providing a space or an intermediate member between a tip end surface of the projection and a bottom surface of the recess and attaining the relation: ##EQU1## in which G, L.sub.1, .alpha., .alpha.', T.sub.S and T.sub.

  • Patent number: 4940178
Abstract: A soldering iron comprises a tube and a soldering tip slipped onto the front or outer end of the tube with a close sliding fit. The soldering tip is fastened axially by means of a spring element which is fastened to an inner end of the tube. In order to secure the soldering tip from rotating, the diameter of the front or outer section of the tube is made smaller than the diameter of the far or inner end section of the tube and the soldering tip is connected form-fittingly with the tube by a web formed in the inner tube which engages in a slot of the outer tube.

  • Patent number: 4940071
Abstract: A method and device for making moulds shaped on two faces by means of model plates (10,11). After depression of the plates, the envelope (17) sealed at (40) containing the granular material (30) is, in its turn, subjected to depression through the tubes (23) and (24) of the armature. The plates are then removed while the internal depression is maintained. The moulds are juxtaposed, and two adjacents moulds will form a print and their free faces will enable the making of two more with two additional moulds. Thus, (n-1) prints will be obtained for n moulds.

  • Patent number: 4940179
Abstract: A device for connecting two bodies such as wires, and for sealing the connection between them, comprising a heat-shrinkable sleeve, a solder insert and an annular composite adhesive insert which comprises two layers of heat-activatable adhesive material. The viscosity of the radially inner layer is less than that of the outer layer. The device is heated to cause the sleeve to shrink and to cause the solder to fuse to form a connection between the bodies. Flow of the inner, less viscous layer of the adhesive insert is restricted by the outer viscous layer, to minimize contamination of the solder by the material of the inner layer.

  • Patent number: 4938274
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of detecting a degassed state in a mold and a system therefor. A gas release opening is formed between a movable mold part and stationary mold part, and a diffuser block having a path for releasing the gas to atmosphere is disposed on the mold. A secondary flow path capable of generating a secondary flow when the gas is released is formed in this diffuser block, and a wind velocity sensor is disposed in this path. Wind velocities of the secondary flow, which are detected by the wind velocity sensor, serve as indications of a cast state and the like in a die cast machine or the like. The secondary flow path is suitably shut off by a shut-off mechanism, and connected to an air cleaner, so that the wind velocity sensor can be effectively protected from dust and the like.

  • Patent number: 4936371
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making metal flakes from a body or stream of molten metal. The apparatus includes a wheel with serrations on its periphery, and means for rotating the wheel in a vertical plane. Means are provided for controlling the relative positions of the wheel and the upper surface of the body of molten metal which is subjected to change. In this manner, the serrations on the bottom of the wheel are disposed a preselected distance into the body of molten metal. When the serrations rotate out of the body, molten metal collects on the serrations and freezes into solid flakes. Means are provided for removing the flakes from the serrations and for collecting the flakes at one location on the periphery of the wheel.
