  • Patent number: 4934024
Abstract: The grip is comprised of a deformable cover formed of a thermoplastic material which is stable and semi-rigid at normal ambient temperatures and is soft and deformable when heated in boiling water. The cover is attached to an implement handle heated and deformed to the shape required by a specific implement user. The method of forming the grip includes the steps of coating the implement handle with a cover material, heating the implement handle until the material has become softened, and grasping an implement handle while the cover is soft and deformable, thereby causing the cover to be molded to a user's specific shape. The high coefficient of friction and the moldability of the material results in a superior grip.

  • Patent number: 4934582
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for the removal of solder mounted surface mount electronic components which includes the removal of old solder, broken leads, and the electronic component without damaging other devices on the substrate. A desoldering braid is shaped to cover each of the electronic component's outer lead bonds without contacting the component's base. The desoldering braid is heated and brought in contact with the bonds until the solder flows into the desoldering braid and any broken outer leads attach to the desoldering braid. Upon removal of the desoldering braid the electronic component can be lifted off the surface. The desoldered solder joints will contain a thin uniform coating of solder less than approximately 50 micro inches thick. This allows for removal and replacement of solder mounted electronic components with leads on center lines spaced less than 0.020 inches.

  • Patent number: 4934580
Abstract: Methods of making superplastically formed and diffusion bonded articles are disclosed as well as the articles made from such methods. Metal sheets are superplastically formed and diffusion bonded in a manner such that pillows are formed on respective outer surfaces thereof, providing a cellular structure interconnected by channels permitting control of gas pressure with the cells. The cellular structure can, in one embodiment, be twisted and the cells can be inflated through superplastic forming. The twisted cellular structure is particularly useful as an intermediate stiffener for an airfoil.

  • Patent number: 4934090
Abstract: An ice fishing assembly signals a fisherman when a fish has struck and is running with the line, and also keeps a hole defined in the ice open. The various parts of the assembly can be customized according to the size and shape of the hole defined through the ice, and can be replaced as necessary. The circuit elements necessary for the signalling function are mounted in a flexible layer of insulation so that they are protected and need not be replaced to fit a new ice hole. The flexible layer will fit a variety of different holes and is fixed to a central tube while other layers are slidably mounted on that central tube to be replaceable. The flexible layer supports the other layers in place.

  • Patent number: 4934444
Abstract: The device serves to cool rolls (10, 12), especially in continuous strip casting and in rolling metals. The rolls are covered by hoods, each of which extends from the vicinity of roll nip (26) over a portion of roll surface (28). Spray devices are also provided for supplying a cooling medium (56) to parts of the roll surface. Liquid cooling medium (56) is collected and carried away in the lower part of hood (30). Hoods (30) are sealed off from the corresponding rolls (10, 12). A plurality of spray devices (32) in hood (30) serves to supply an at least partly liquid cooling medium (56) and extends axially over the entire length of the roll. Devices for removing liquid cooling medium (56) from roll surface (28) conduct the latter into a drain or suction device. Spray devices (32) and devices for removing cooling medium (56) are arranged individually or alternately in groups, with removal devices provided at both ends to remove cooling medium (56).

  • Patent number: 4932582
Abstract: A bonding tool to be employed for preparing semiconductor parts, e.g., IC, comprizing a tool-head made of a super hard material, e.g., a single crystal of diamond, etc., which comes into contact with a workpiece in the use of the bonding tool and a shank to which the tool-head is bonded by brazing with a brazing material is prepared by using a silver solder based brazing composition obtained by adding a fine powder for shrinkage-stress-relieving material, e.g., fine diamond powder, etc., to a conventional silver solder based brazing material to which titanium has been added as the brazing material. The method is advantageous in that bonding tools having improved properties; i.e., high brazing strength, high stability in practical use, low brazing strain, low thermal stress etc., can be prepared in a good yield with preventing a crack in the super hard material used as a tool-head of the bonding tools.

  • Patent number: 4932585
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for solder plating parallel arranged leads on an electronic device, e.g. QFP having leads on four sides or SOLC having leads on two sides. A metal plate of solder wettable material having an inclined upper surface is placed in a molten solder bath. The electronic device, with the leads to be solder plated exposed, is lowered horizontally in the solder bath and is pulled out horizontally. A large quantity of solder adhering on the inclined plate pulls solder adhering on the leads sequentially along an inclined surface of the plate to obtain uniform thickness of solder plating on the leads without causing bridging.

  • Patent number: 4932459
Abstract: Channels or apertures are provided in a suitable area of the cores during the formation thereof in a first blowing machine, such that, on piling of the cores to form the block, and in the absence of additives between the contacting surfaces thereof, the apertures or channels are placed one adjacent another. Then a housing is defined, which affects the entire block in a longitudinal direction, and which subsequently molds a mixture of sand and a binder material, similar to a core in a second blowing machine. The material after hardening, acts as a coupling and stiffening arrangement between the cores forming the block.

  • Patent number: 4928748
Abstract: Apparatus for continuous casting includes a tundish for containing molten metal and delivering the metal to a work zone where the metal solidifies as it is moved through the work zone in a continuous casting process. The tundish contains molten metal and includes an outlet and a pervious flow restricting element is positioned in the outlet. The element causes the flow of the metal to be distributed as it flows through the outlet and into the work zone to engage a growing shell of solid metal carried through the work zone by a chilled substrate. The molten metal acts to apply a pressure on the shell and to lubricate the moving shell. The arrangement minimizes exposure of liquid to air and minimizes opportunity for turbulence in the liquid contained in the work zone. A method of continuous casting is also described.
