  • Patent number: 5390805
Abstract: In a system comprising a container and a liquid contained therein that builds up a gas or vapor pressure, a sealing valve having a concave shaped portion and a slit extending through said portion, allows venting of the vapor from the container to the ambient at a predetermined vapor threshold pressure. The vapor threshold pressure at which the slit opens for venting can be adjusted by valve restraining means which are preferably formed by a protrusion at the inside of a cap covering the sealing valve. The vapor threshold pressure at which venting takes place, can to a large extent be adjusted without affecting the dispensing characteristics of the valve.

  • Patent number: 5388715
Abstract: A spill proof paint lid with pouring and stirring capabilities comprising, in combination, a central circular plate with a periphery, the periphery having a downwardly extending exterior extent and an interior ring. The interior ring is formed as a locking lip positionable in the trough of the paint can. A pouring spout extends upwardly from the circular plate adjacent to the interior ring. The spout has a rectangular cross sectional configuration with its axis extending radially outwardly from the center of the plate at an angle. The circular plate and spout are integrally formed of plastic. A stirring slot is formed in the circular plate essentially equally distant between the center of the plate and the exterior extent diametrically opposed from the spout.

  • Patent number: 5388712
Abstract: A molded plastic container top has an upper surface from which extends an extensible dispensing tube with a liquid dispensing orifice. The orifice is closed by a removable closure in the form of a cap-like, hollow, open-ended body. A plug is formed integrally with the upper surface and extends upwardly therefrom. Extending upwardly from the plug is an integral, cylindrical, rod-like stopper extension. In the preferred embodiment, the plug is axially fluted, with three radial vanes, dimensioned to be received into the interior of the closure to retain the closure thereon with a frictional fit. The stopper extension is dimensioned to be received within dispensing orifice with a fluid-tight fit, so as to provide an alternative closure for the orifice when the dispensing tube is extended to bring the orifice into the proximity of the stopper extension.

  • Patent number: 5385252
Abstract: An injection molded threaded cap for use with containers of varying dimensions. The cap of the present invention includes a cover from which depends an integral plug. An auxiliary sealing ring is disposed at the outside base of the plug to compensate for differences between the diameter of the plug and the diameter of the opening to be sealed by the cap. To prevent doming of the cover of the cap, the underside of the cover has shrinkage resistance formations which provide the cap with structural resistance to the effects of shrinkage. The cap of the present invention further includes a ratchet ring having ratchet teeth designed to enhance the tamper-evidency of the frangible ratchet ring.

  • Patent number: 5375729
Abstract: The invention, relating to an easy-open metal container end, places a portion of the metal of the tear panel, in the region where a score stop otherwise would be located, under compression by forming a short coined depression or bead in the tear panel, preferably in the public side, close to the score line at least at the end of the vent region opposite from the inner hook, which is located at the radially inward end of the tear panel score line. During initial opening or venting action, as the rivet is lifted by initial tab motion, separation proceeds along the score line, beneath the nose of the tab. The metal adjacent and in this coined depression tends to move partially underneath the metal on the opposite side of the score line from the coined vent bead. This action provides sufficient disruption or retarding of the score line separation or rupture, during venting, to confine such separation to the vent region until internal pressure is vented.

  • Patent number: 5372271
Abstract: A waste disposal bin for containing a trash can therein includes a four wall cabinet with a flap panel hingedly attached in blocking relation to an opening through an upper portion of a front wall. A pedal, exteriorly accessible at a base of the front wall, interconnects with a linkage assembly structured to cause the flap panel to be swung open and closed relative to the opening through the upper portion of the front wall upon corresponding downward and upward movement of the pedal respectively. The linkage assembly includes a combined rigid linkage assembly and a flexible linkage assembly structured and disposed to move the flap panel through a greater range of movement relative to a range of movement of the foot pedal, both the flexible and rigid linkage assemblies being at least partially concealed and segregated from a remainder of the cabinet interior so as to avoid interference with removal and replacement of the trash can and contact with trash being deposited through the opening of the front wall.

  • Patent number: 5370262
Abstract: A container for liquid with an auxiliary lid which is capable of preventing a large quantity of bubbles and liquid within the container from spouting out. The auxiliary lid body is provided a distance above an opening-lid which is opened by lifting a tab provided on the lid of the container. Air holes are provided in the auxiliary lid body whereby, upon opening the container, spouting of beer or soda or other liquid contents stops and remains within a space surrounded by the auxiliary lid and container lid. As a result, bubbles and liquid are prevented from dispersing. A protrusion for opening the container also enables the auxiliary lid to be secured without rattling.

  • Patent number: 5368181
Abstract: A plug for a threaded opening in an oil pan or other fluid container. The plug has a cylindrical midportion and upper and lower threaded portions at each end of the midportion. The midportion has a side orifice that is connected to another orifice at the end of the upper threaded portion. The end of the lower threaded portion has a grip for turning the plug. The plug may be installed by screwing the upper threaded portion into the threaded opening, sliding the plug further into the container, and screwing the lower threaded portion into the container. Fluid may be drained or vented by unscrewing the lower threaded portion and sliding the plug out of the container until the side orifice is exposed. Once unscrewed, the plug may be rotated to orient the flow of fluid from the side orifice in any direction. Fluid flow may be stopped by sliding the plug into the container until the upper edge of the lower threads contact the container wall.
