  • Patent number: 5219084
Abstract: A container closure assembly is disclosed including a tamper evident ring. The ring is initially substantially concealed by the closure when the closure is first fitted to the neck of the container. After the occasion on which the closure is first removed from the container neck, the tamper evident ring remains substantially visible on the container neck when the closure is replaced on the neck. The closure may include a recess for receiving the ring to conceal the ring, and releasable holding means for retaining the ring in the recess until the closure is removed for the first time. The ring may be slidably retained on a portion of the container neck.

  • Patent number: 5219085
Abstract: A domed lid for a waste receptacle is disclosed and comprises a domed external surface (4) and a frontal recess (12) formed therein. A door (20) is pivotally mounted within the recess and has a central domed surface (34) surrounded by an edge flange border (36). A raised ridge (44) extends about the door periphery, and defines a channel with the door surface (34) positioned to collect water from sides of the lid (14,16) and direct the collected water downward over a radiused lower recess sidewall (18) and there to a lower rim of the lid. The lid further comprised spring members (30) which bias the door flange (36) against inward lid surfaces defining the recess, further deterring the entry of water around the door and into the interior of the lid. The shape of the recess and door further enable the lid to interstack with like-configured lids for efficiency in shipping and display at retail.

  • Patent number: 5219091
Abstract: A dispensing food container having a bottom wall and a side wall connected to the bottom wall, thereby forming an inner chamber. A cover is displaceably mounted with respect to the side wall for varying the volume of the inner chamber. At least a portion of an outer peripheral portion of the cover forms a seal against an inner surface of the side wall. The cover has a cover through hole which is in communication with the inner chamber. A flanged nozzle can be used to facilitate transfer of the fluidized food from within the inner chamber to a cracker, a chip, a vegetable or the like.

  • Patent number: 5217134
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for forming a convenience-feature, sheet metal end closure structure (133) for a container body (153) having a non-cylindrical side wall. A new scoring tool (94) configuration enables a peripheral scoreline (102) defining a separable convenience-feature panel (112) to be located contiguous to the closure chuck wall (100) which interfits about its entire periphery with the open end of the side wall of such a container. Separation of such panel leaves substantially no obstruction to removal of solid-pack container. The separable panel (112) is formed with a multiple-layer fold (127) of sheet metal which is nested against the interior periphery of such panel, so as to shield torn residual metal remaining with the panel after severance along such peripheral scoreline.

  • Patent number: 5211304
Abstract: A closure assembly has a closure element which is releasably engaged with a shipping and storage container for selectively restricting the flow of fluid through a discharge outlet in the container. The closure element has a longitudinal axis with a first axial end received in the opening and a second axial end having a peripheral flange outside the container. An axially opening slot with oppositely inclined sidewalls is provided in the peripheral flange for seating an annular seal member, whereby the seal member is captured in sealing relation between the peripheral flange and the container for reducing leakage through the outlet. The seal member is a deformable ring which has an undeformed state in which a first surface on the ring engages an end wall of the slot and an arcuate second surface on the ring extends beyond the axial opening.

  • Patent number: 5207340
Abstract: There is disclosed a snap-on closure for containers, such as milk and soft drink plastic bottles, which has upper and lower annular beads on the inside wall of a peripheral skirt with a tear band defined by a score line in the skirt, located between the annular beads. The score line extends towards, but not entirely to, the bottom edge of the skirt, terminating a short distance above the bottom edge of the skirt. This score line permits a tearing of the lower portion of the cap skirt from the closure, and for this purpose, the cap tears along the weakened score line, about the closure and then downwardly towards the bottom edge of the skirt so that the entire lower portion of the skirt is removed as a tear band, leaving only the reclosure on the bottle. Since the lower score line does not extend to the lower edge of the skirt, that lower edge is not weakened, but retains its full hoop strength, to resist splitting when the cap is applied to the bottle.

  • Patent number: 5207345
Abstract: A device is disclosed which provides an airtight seal for buckets and other containers not previously having a removable, easily resealable lid. The device consists of an adapter and a lid which is threaded into the adapter. The adapter is formed to drape over the rim of the container. A seal is located between the adapter and the rim and provides an airtight seal when compressed. The adapter is held in engagement with the container by a ridge which engages a lip on the rim of the container. The lid includes threads which engage threads in the adapter and a second seal is located between the adapter and the lid providing an airtight seal when compressed. In one embodiment, the lid drapes over the adapter and prevents the adapter from being disengaged from the bucket by preventing the adapter form deforming sufficiently to disengage from the rim.

  • Patent number: 5205426
Abstract: A tamper-indicating plastic closure includes a plastic closure cap having a top wall portion, and a depending cylindrical skirt portion, and an annular pilfer band depending from the skirt portion. The pilfer band includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced flexible tabs, and an annular interference bead, with the arrangement configured to provide two modes of tamper-indicating interaction with an associated container. In order to facilitate high-speed application of the closure to a container, each of the flexible tabs includes a relatively thick central portion, operative during the second mode of tamper-indication, and an adjacent base portion of relatively reduced thickness for enhanced flexibility.
