  • Patent number: 11477528
Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in conventional media systems via a novel technique to prevent corruption of a user's viewing profile. In some aspects, a user of an interactive media guidance application may select a media asset for viewing on a user device. The interactive media guidance application may receive a user viewing profile for the user from a remote server. If the media asset is determined to not be consistent with the user viewing profile, the interactive media guidance application may retrieve another user viewing profile for another user of the user device. If the media asset is determined to be consistent with the other user viewing profile, the interactive media guidance application may update the other user viewing profile based on the media asset.

  • Patent number: 11477499
Abstract: Provided are a system and method for publishing a disparate live media output stream manifest that includes one or more media segments corresponding to key events. The system comprises one or more processors that generate a programming schedule, based on a synchronization of one or more disparate sub-systems in the system, includes one or more key events that occurred from a starting point until a current live point in a live input stream. Further, a reference clock provides a reference time to synchronize the one or more disparate sub-systems. Based on the programming schedule, one or more processors insert the current live point and one or more media segments corresponding to the one or more key events that occurred prior to the current live point included in a live input stream manifest into a disparate live media output stream manifest, which is further published based on the insertion.

  • Patent number: 11477514
Abstract: A set-top box receives original video streams and generates a guide video stream that includes each of the original video streams resized and arranged as a plurality of scaled video streams such that all of the scaled video streams are simultaneously visible and playing on the guide video stream. The guide video stream is displayed on a display device and the set-top box provides an interactive user interface on the display device in conjunction with the guide video stream to allow a user of the set-top box to select one of the scaled video streams for full screen playback. In response to the user selecting a particular scaled video stream on the guide video stream for full screen playback, the set-top box plays full screen on the display device a particular original video stream corresponding to the particular scaled video stream as received via the communication interface.

  • Patent number: 11470405
Abstract: Network services encode multimedia content, such as video, into multiple adaptive bitrate streams of encoded video and a separate trick play stream of encoded video to support trick play features. The trick play stream is encoded at a lower encoding bitrate and frame rate than each of the adaptive bitrate streams. The adaptive bitrate streams and the trick play stream are stored in the network services. During normal content streaming and playback, a client device downloads a selected one of the adaptive bitrate streams from network serviced for playback at the client device. To implement a trick play feature, the client device downloads the trick play stream from the network services for trick play playback.

  • Patent number: 11470380
Abstract: Systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable media can stream a live video stream from a content provider. A portion of the live video stream can be buffered in a content buffer. The portion of the live video stream accumulated in the content buffer can be monitored during playback of the live stream. A latency action can be determined based on the monitoring of the portion of the live video stream. The latency action can adaptively adjust the playback of the live video stream. The playback of the live video stream can be caused to be adjusted adaptively according to the latency action.

  • Patent number: 11416536
Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for determining similarities in content preferences among a plurality of users and generating content recommendations based on a requesting user's content consumption history. A requesting user may access the recommendation system to request content items for consumption. The recommendation system may be configured to identify users having consumed the same or similar content items as the requesting user, and to determine a ratio of content items consumed by the requesting user and an identified user to the total number of content items previously consumed by the requesting user. In one embodiment, the system may determine a degree of similarity in content preferences between the two users based on an inverse proportion of a level of popularity associated with the content items consumed by the requesting user and the identified user (e.g., sampled user).

  • Patent number: 11412305
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for facilitating analyzing media items and to filter inappropriate media items before distribution to the users. In one aspect, a method includes partitioning digital media items such as videos into segments and/or scenes, and classifying the segments into predetermined classes such as “Violence”, “Conversation”, “Street”, “Nudity”, “Animation”. After classifications have been assigned, the segments are clustered and/or grouped together before presenting the segments belonging to a particular cluster to a rating entity in a single user interface, for further evaluation. After evaluation, the segments of the media items that were approved by the rating entity are used to identify media items for which all the segments were approved by the rating entity before distributing the media items to the users.

  • Patent number: 11395022
Abstract: Vehicle entertainment systems can determine an entertainment preference of a passenger based on the interactions of the passenger with media devices on board the vehicle. The interactions can include how the passenger rates content, whether the passenger views the entirety of the content, or information regarding the passenger such as frequent flier data. The analysis to determine the preferences of the passenger are done without placing cookies on the passenger's devices and by components on board the vehicle. The analysis can include machine learning techniques that build trained models of passenger preferences. Additionally, the trained models can develop profiles for each passenger. At the end of the travel experience, the preferences of a passenger can be deleted such that a new passenger does not see content that was based on the prior passenger's preferences.
