Patent number: 4847003Abstract: In the fabrication of various hybrid devices, it is the practice to provide thick film conductors of two different compositions, namely, a high palladium content silver-palladium film and an essentially pure silver film. The silver-palladium films are used because of their excellent physical and chemical properties, but are relatively expensive. The silver-based films do not have comparably good properties (with the exception of low electrical resistivity), but are less expensive than the silver-palladium films and are used in substitution therefore on less "demanding" areas of the device. However, the two films interact when in contact, and discontinuities or open circuits can occur as a result. The present invention provides a novel silver-based conductor film including a small percentage of palladium and one or both of aluminum oxide and silicon dioxide.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1988Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: Delco Electronics CorporationInventor: Ponnusamy Palanisamy

Patent number: 4847132Abstract: A protective layer which is applied to rewritable optical information recording medium comprising a substrate and a photosensitive thin film. When exposed to optical energy, the thin layer is capable of undergoing a reversible phase change by which an optical reflectivity is changed between two states. The protective layer is inhibiting the thermal damages of the substrate during light irradiation and also controlling thermal and optical boundary conditions. The protective layer is made of the mixture of mutually solid insoluble materials. The typical choice of the mixture of small crystalline grains of ZnS and noncrystalline SiO.sub.2.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1987Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masatoshi Takao, Kunio Kimura, Toshimitsu Kurumizawa, Kenichi Nagata

Patent number: 4847136Abstract: A modified printed wiring board for reducing the cracking of solder joints used to attach ceramic leadless chip carriers to the surface of the printed wiring board. A relatively thin expansion layer is provided on top of the conventional printed wiring board. This expansion layer is bonded to the printed wiring board except at locations underneath the footprint of the chip carrier and solder joints. This expansion layer reduces the stress of solder joints between the ceramic leadless chip carrier and the printed wiring board due to thermal expansion mismatch, thereby reducing cracking of the solder joint.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 1988Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventor: Ching-Ping Lo

Patent number: 4844990Abstract: A display surface for long-lasting fluorescent markings comprises a generally planar sheet of colored fluorescent film which is electrostatically charged and placed against one (front) side of a clear plastic panel member, with an airtight seal created between the two. The back side of the clear plastic panel is similarly electrostatically charged and placed against a sheet of photoreflective film, again with an airtight seal created between the two. The reflective surface of the photoreflective film is oriented outward towards the clear plastic panel and fluorescent film. These assembled layers are then sealed around their perimeter edges to prevent introduction of air and to preserve the induced electrostatic charges. The layers can then be mounted on a mounting board or other suitably strong, rigid material to enable them to be used as a writing surface, preferably with fluorescent-type writing markers such as pens or crayons.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1987Date of Patent: July 4, 1989Inventor: Harry O. Patent number: 4844975Abstract: A composite panel assembly for walk-in coolers and freezers and similar structures has a thickness of low strength insulation sandwiched between two facings. A reinforcing structural member is bonded to the insulation side of one of the facings and extends across at least about half of the thickness of the insulation but is spaced from the opposite facing. The reinforcing member does not provide a direct thermal path between facings; thus preventing condensation on the facing during high humidity and/or low temperature conditions.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1988Date of Patent: July 4, 1989Assignee: Bally Engineered Structures, Inc.Inventor: Ernest N. Patent number: 4842824Abstract: An optical storage medium comprises a thermoplastic resin substrate having a concave and convex surface grating on one surface thereof, and a metal layer covering the concave and convex surface grating. The period of the concave and convex surface grating is less than a wavelength of light so that light reflected from the concave and convex surface grating is changed from linear polarization to elliptical polarization, while there is no change in the polarization of light reflected from a recording pit in which the concave and convex surface grating has collapsed. Therefore, information can be read out of the optical storage medium in accordance with the change of light polarization.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1987Date of Patent: June 27, 1989Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Yuzo Ono

Patent number: 4842293Abstract: A lateral retention apparatus for a boot attached at its front end to a cross-country ski. The apparatus is positioned on the upper surface of a cross-country ski and includes a retention and guidance rib adapted to engage a groove in the sole of the boot. The groove progressively caps the sole when the boot is flattened on the ski. The rib and the groove have substantially the same cross-sectional configuration, and this cross-sectional configuration is asymmetrical. The ribe on one ski supporting a skier has an interior inclined lateral surface facing the other ski supporting the skier, and an exterior inclined lateral surface facing the exterior of the ski to which it is attached. The interior inclined lateral surface of the rib can have an average gradient with respect to a horizontal surface of the ski that is either greater than or less than the average gradient of the exterior inclined lateral surface of the rib with respect to this horizontal surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1985Date of Patent: June 27, 1989Assignee: Salomon, S.A.Inventor: Jean-Claude Rochard
